I wouldn't be so sure that valentina has someone to take her husbands place in background instead i beleive she has someone to take her place as frederic's husband, it does makes sense if she is using frederic's fear of curse to her advantage. Next chapter will give us more insight. Valentina can easily introduce Frederic as her sister which if it happens wouldn't be surprise.
