Zahuatil Ruins 04 - The Adventurer’s Purpose

Welcome back one last time to Zahuatil Ruins, everybody! This will be the final release before our Definitive Edition. We’ve got a bunch of great content here, including collaborations with three excellent creators, a bunch of awesome new maps, and three giant plot hooks to round out your Chorago Rainforest adventures. Let’s dive in!
Borough Guide
This borough guide is unique in our catalog. In lieu of a smattering of NPCs, some items, some location descriptions, and whatnot, this guide consists solely of three larger plot hooks that will define the late game of your ZR adventures:
- Free the enslaved kobolds
- Confront the dragon Axziga
- Confront the mimic shepherd Triqe van Leery
Any adventurers who survive the initial onslaught will engage with these three plot hooks to varying degrees, and this guide gives you everything you need to GM these nuanced quests.
Maps
This final map shows more of the massive tree that fell upon the ruins, as well as the central ziggurat of the temple complex. While the dungeon itself is entirely modular, we have a feeling this ziggurat is going to be the centerpiece of many of your adventures, either a primary entrance to the ruins, or the location of an epic boss battle. As always, we have four gorgeous variants as well: shadowfell, desert, misty, and rainy.
Patrons at the Chief Courier tier and up also gain access to the three layers of the ziggurat itself. These interior maps are perfect for introductions to the ruin complex or climactic battles during the chaos portion of the adventure.
Music
Here’s a first for us! We collaborated with incredible Dutch pan flutist Hance Marchal for our track this week! “Triqe’s Secret” is a mysterious and emotive track that exemplifies the unsettling feeling of piecing together the true plot of Zahuatil Ruins. The pan flute solo on this track rips, and we were so glad that Hance provided his talents for our release. Please check out Hance’s first album Ancient Voices wherever you stream! If you want something a bit mellow, our “Ambient” variant should be perfect for roleplaying or slow, plodding dungeoneering.
Axziga’s Lair Entrance | Collaboration with Cze and Peku
BB team members Cze and Peku created this excellent map for the entrance to Axziga’s lair. This is ideal for parties that want to take down the dragon before she flees deeper into her treacherous dungeon. They’ve also made over a dozen variants for this map that are only available to their patrons. Cze and Peku have created an unbelievable library of RPG maps, each colorful and stunning. Axziga’s Lair | Collaboration with Tom Cartos
Our buddy Tom Cartos also created a full map of Axziga’s Lair, complete with day and night variants, an architectural breakdown of the space, and suggested puzzles and enemy encounters. If you want to add a whole additional layer to your Zahuatil Ruins adventures, a quest into this dungeon is the perfect next step.
