A lot of people are pushing for more combat, but the lack of combat is the main reason I'm reading this.

Chronomechanist

Get a grip. The author hasn't taken away the protagonists "agency". There is no agency. This is not a roleplay game, where you are the main character. This is a story. A story that the author is telling. There is no "player agency" because the player has no choice. This is the story that the author wants to tell you, so sit down and shut up. Just because you have so far agreed with every choice the protagonist has made, don't confuse the situation as being one where you are making the choices. You don't get to have a say in how the story is written, just because you're paying a subscription to the author's patreon. You don't own this story. If you want a story where the protagonist faces no difficult choices, is never put in a position of weakness, and never has anything bad happen to them, the go off and feel free to write your story about sunshine and rainbows. Don't criticise (this genre, of all genres) for "cliché". Alternatively, you could grow up and learn to appreciate literature as an adult and not a spoiled child.

And here we are. At the point of jumping the shark. The oh so cliche both options are bad and he makes a deal with that bad side. Well atleast I had my fun with what was there

Hmmm, def feels bad to read this chapter. When the MC gets agency taken away from them and the reader is forced to sit through a choice between two shitty options, no matter what choice is made, we get a shitty conclusion. Or at least it feels like that to read it. It doesn't matter that they may make the most logical decision, the author only gave them bad options by putting them in this position. Out of all the paths the story could have taken, two books in, we arrived at the MC making a deal with the devil, always a lame cliche. Every time it's always the same, "I'm in a tough spot, I guess I have no other choice but to make this decision" every time it ends up biting them in the ass as they narrowly escape their predicament. It's exhausting to read this same chain of events over and over again. It's boring and it's the opposite of enjoyable, it leaves a poor taste in my mouth and if a book goes down this road then it does not bode well for the predictability in misery/struggles for the rest of the story. Please author, don't resort to impossible to enjoy clichés for your story.
