I’m thinking with a card like his he has witnessed some crimes and gotten out alive plenty times. They killed him to silence him in all likelihood

Gustavo Claude

It could be the reason to his demise. But I think the death should be something more political. At beginning I thought it was because greed, maybe the pink dragons are somewhat special, but now I'm not sure.

paulnotpeter

@Gustavo Claude, maybe that dragon rider had a gambling problem.

Gustavo Claude

I have been thinking about the drop rate of cards in a death. Because he has find people with more than one card. And it seems easy to farm cards in a Hive or fighting scourgelings. But every time someone died near him, there was few cards. Most times, just one. Maybe they dropped just one of each rarity, or the most rare. There is no explanation to a dragon rider have only a plant control offensive card and a escape card.

Gustavo Claude

Yes, but it was in cooldown. 1x by sunset. He thinked about that in the last chapter

Ninetails

I have the feeling that it can be counted, but one needs to get training with it to control which of the possible triggers will actual trigger it.

Touch

Wait... is sick seeker count as gettin attack by card? Wth

Thanks for the chapter!!

Some BS Deity

I doubt he will talk about the rider dying anytime soon. Arthur is a smart kid and he doesn't know the situation yet. For all he knows the rider was killed on Magda's orders and telling her could end with him dead.

yanno, being a rider is pretty flashy, and his cards are all very low key... if he doesn't *have* to become a rider and fight stuff constantly... he could just... become a crazy good crafter or chef... in fact, there is *no* case in which the king of this nation is going to be cool with the Ex duke's son becoming a legendary dragon rider... we already saw that they're cool with killing eachother. More importantly, this place is the perfect place to build whole decks without scrutiny. ooh, I'm super excited about this particular scenario, this is more progression-y without having to constantly worry of if your employer is going to murder you for your savings. and cards are blank until the shards are put together, he could find all sorts of things! staying here until he's an adult is good. would it be sus if arthur switches jobs a few times? or learns several? how rare are those scanner things?

The last two chapter titles “Sold” and “hook, line and sinker” do imply this deal isn’t as sweet as it looks so far. It does all seem a bit to good to be true, especially in the harsh, “might makes right” world we’ve seen so far. I am getting a Fagin vibe from Magda.

Summary: You manipulative bitch, I am in.

I guess it could also be that Arthur hasn't really had the opportunity for it yet. Things have been hectic and he was too busy taking in stuff going on around him to worry about that. Even in this chapter as soon as he met with Magda, he was told the bad news that his father didn't make it (he was too busy worrying about selling the lie to think about anything else). Then he got chores to do, followed by a breakfast where he was busy stuffing himself while Magda distracted him with promises of more cards to come his way. Once things calm down and he has settled in he'll probably bring it up. I'm sure it will be important knowledge as to the inner working of the Hives, so he will get an answer one way or another, since he will be living in one now.

It's interesting to know that taking out a card is such an unpleasant feeling. I wonder if it is actually literal that you lose a piece of yourself when you take out a card, permanently changing you, or if it's just something temporary that goes away. (Though I'm assuming if you put the card back in your heart, the piece of you is not actually lost.) If it is literal and permanent, then I wonder if absorbing cards from other people can also have a negative impact. Sort of like tainting ones soul with the fragments of others. This leads me to think that perhaps someone like Second who seems to have quite a number of cards was changed by them? Perhaps he used to be less of an asshole? Or maybe it's more that the cards amplify traits one already has, that were also prominent in the previous owners of the card? So if you got a card off someone evil, and you have some similar tendencies, taking the card will make those traits become more prominent in you? It would also explain why people might not want someone to absorb cards they were hired to transport. Instead having to carry them outside a heart where they can easily be lost or stolen. They simply don't want the cards to get "tainted" (or perhaps imprinted would be a better word?).

Julien Fellegara

Yes, the same. And he don't even think about it.

Pred Head

I'm surprised he's not considering reporting what he saw with dragon riders attacking each other
