Hajime was eyeing the special innate abilities of the devils from the 72 pillars. He had found out most of what kind of abilities they had and became greedy to possess all those abilities to strengthen his own power.
It so happened that he also had a tool that he had developed to extract a person's power and it worked for extracting devil power after he tested it on some random wild devils that he managed to capture.
He now had demonic energy in his body after extracting the power from those wild demons. But he knew his demonic energy was very weak, after all he only extracted power from wild devils that didn't even have special abilities like those devils from the 72 pillars.
Hajime wasn't satisfied, he wanted something better.
