In my childhood I attended a summer art camp in the basement of the local art museum every year, I LOVED IT, and once I was too old for it (15) I went back as an instructor's assistant. One afternoon after lunch I was herding all the kids back down to the basement and one of them, probably about 6 or 7 years old, asked me, "Are you a boy or a girl?" Being 15 I was HORRIFIED, but now at 37 even though I'm cis-female I would be delighted at such a question and probably would have answered something like, "It's a mystery!"
