Fallout 76 - Nuclear Waste (Jimpressions)
🕑 Added 2018-11-15 15:25:28 +0000 UTC It never seemed likely that Bethesda was capable of handling an online Fallout game, and the dreadful mess that is Fallout 76 only validates one's cynicism. Which is fine, because Fallout 76 is, itself, a cynical game.A cynical game that barely works.
Lifeless, archaic, and featuring a totally mangled VATS system, this desperate trip on the Live Services bandwagon is an utter waste of time.

I mean, I expected an always-online multiplayer Fallout to not be great but that was due to trolls. I didn't expect it to be this bad. 😞

Jim, you bastard, that note about the video not being frozen was too late! :P
Maybe they should remaster Fallout 3 instead...

Also, ghoul kid in a refrigerator. I will never get over that.

The game no one needs, and even fewer deserve.

Wow. They managed to create something that looks kind of like "Metal Gear: Survive"... Only somehow worse, in nearly every way. Fallout 4 disappointed me. For every interesting idea or character, there were whole threads that were under-developed or under-thought, from the "shocking" reveal that was obvious from the get-go to the machinations of The Institute that seemed to have no motivation what-so-ever. I never *hated* the engine, but it definitely wasn't what I came for... And getting out of my power armor and re-arranging my costume just so I could have a "successful" social interaction never seemed anything less than ridiculous. It sounds like Fallout 76 managed to siphon off anything that made 4 worth playing and replaced it with fetch quests that were causing eye-rolling ten years ago.

In two years it'll probably be pretty damn good (by always-online live service standards)

Wish this was a shock. I'm more surprised when I need to shit first thing in the morning than I am that this game is a broken mess.

Doom isn't developed by Bethesda, otherwise we never would have gotten the excellent Doom 2016. They just publish it. And they don't seem to be quite at EA's level when it comes to forcing their developers to ruin their games for the sake of monetization.

the only good thing that could POSSIBLE come out of this is that teh game bombs so badly because of its bugs that bethesda shapes up a bit and doesn't fuck up Doom Eternal the same way

Ah well, I had hoped but, really, I never believed. Here's hoping that 1: Bethesda doesn't take too hard a hit and end up bought and 2: Bethesda doesn't blame a lack of interest in Fallout rather than their failure to make a compelling game.

Welp, that seals it for me. I'm a huge FO fan but I didn't care for FO4 and I've been super skeptical of this release. After watching this, this will be the first one I skip.
