Progress of the new update
🕑 Added 2024-10-31 01:12:30 +0000 UTCTime for another monthly progress report! Let's go through some of the things we've done this month.
Hair
A big part of this months work was hair. it was quite hard to come up with and implement a modular system that fits all the requirements I had.
The system I came up with works in the following way: You can equip multiple "hairstyle items" at once and at will enable/disable their individual parts. This allows to freely combine hairstyles while also keeping it relatively simple. The UI for handling this might have to be improved before the release, but it already allows for all those combinations.
Because you can freely combine different parts of different hairstyles the amount of possible combinations increases exponentially with every hairstyle we're going to add. I was able to achieve those combinations with just two new hairstyle items.
We are going to of course add more than just two! Can't wait to see all the combinations.
One more thing, the systems allowing modifications of items like the hair are available for modders for all items. This will allow for a lot new interesting mods for sure.
New backgrounds
Game's backgrounds are currently quite inconsistent, we have a mix of hand-painted ones and some photos with filters. I'd like to fix that in next couple updates. I've commissioned an artist I know, to draw backgrounds for the new update. New locations will have unique hand-painted art, but also a lot of older ones are going to be replaced. Look forward to it!
MDRG on an iphone?
Unity 6 that came out recently promised one big feature. Web build of the game now supports mobile devices. This doesn't seem that important, but remember that before this, playing MDRG on IOS was pretty much impossible. Apple doesn't allow nsfw games in their app store and you can't sideload apps too. The browser version allows users to bypass that. I upgraded the project to Unity 6 and did some testing on IOS devices. The support seemed to be better, but I've still experienced crashes. I've pinned the cause to be running out of memory. It seems the browser version is a lot more ram hungry compared to standalone ones and available memory seems smaller. Based on my testing limited to around 800MB.
To alleviate the issue I've added a special "Low memory mode" that will be automatically enabled when playing on mobile in the browser. As the name implies it does some tricks to decrease the memory usage.

When will it be released?
Progress this month was a bit slower than I anticipated, but I think I got over the biggest hurdles now. If everything goes well we should be done by the end of November.

What about my post is "toxic"? Please developer give us something for the money we're giving you. What about that is toxic? I agree good content takes hard work, but when the provider gives no timelines on work they are actively taking money for, there is no excuse. Complaints are warranted. And before the Creator comes in with their set of excuses and says I can get a refund if I want, I don't want a refund, I want content. At the very least provide a date we can expect something more.

You're getting delays on a timeline not layed out. That's the core of the issue. The last major update was 5+ months ago. even if you've donated 2$ a month, that's 10 dollars for a non completed game. I can get completed games for that price. I'm more than willing to support a creator making something I enjoy, like this game, but if I'm giving them my money I expect some kind of results over time. The reason I made my first statement in my post is because all I see is circle jerking. People are so happy to see updates, without seeing content provided to US the CUSTOMERS. I support quite a few games and I do the same on all of them. It wasn't a strike against anybody, it was just me stating what I didn't see anybody else saying. Why buy a product and accept low standards. BTW if you want to be a cashcow, go ahead, let people milk you for every penny you have. Personally, when I pay for something, even if it's early access I expect some kind of result out of my contribution. I'm still crying over the money I've put into Summertime Saga.

The problem with your complaint is that it began with a strike at everyone else for not complaining about it, why wouldn't someone strike back? It's not a lot of money I'm spending, and because I have an interest in it I don't mind giving them the few dollars a month (if only for the art). If I'm having any problem with it I can always cancel my membership. And in (almost?) every post they offer a refund for dissatisfaction, if anything the problem is complaining and THEN giving them money still. I honestly can see the point of your argument, but you framed it in a way that made you the bad guy, yet now you're upset I treated you as such? Also I'd probably burnout if they kept releasing small updates because I'd be interested in trying them each time.

The "how long till the update" part of the reports is a very, very rough estimate. I will try to communicate that better in the future reports. It's really hard to estimate the development time for a games like ours. Having more smaller updates might be a better idea and it's something we wanted to do. Less, bigger updates has it's benefits though. We can experiment more and put in big new features that wouldn't be possible in smaller updates. And one more thing, If you're an unhappy with the progress I'd be happy to give you a refund.

This is awesome but my mind was thinking, would it be possible for her new hairstyles to also have the option for a colored stripe? (On whichever part of the hair options it may be included) I may be an outlier here but I think that may be the most notorious part of her hair and would think that getting rid of it for other hairstyles would be a bit of a bummer. But you're paying for it. That's the problem. You alienate my complaint to be one of desperation when really it's one of a consumer. I despise people like you more than any greedy creator because you do nothing to push them to create more, you're just some animal waiting for their trough to be filled. I'm not dying to play the update as you insinuate, I'm just a customer that is willing to express their grievances.

This update includes 40k+ words of new story. Game so far had like 120k words, so it's going to bump it up to 160k.

This is what I absolutely love to see from an update. Every time I see a notification from this page I'm secure in the knowledge that I'm about to read something interesting! This modular hair system, I think, is genuinely genius. Not only does it make future additions by you more flexible and user friendly, but the psychos in the mod channel are gonna enter the 4th dimension! It's also really nice to have something else I can throw money at.

Dev, how are you gonna tease us with the prospect of Annalie hair for Jun, and yet not tell us when we can fuck her...so cruel. Jokes aside, always nice to see now customization options! My main question would be, is there any more major plans for story based stuff in the game, or is that mostly finished at this point, and the focus is on the dating sim aspect?
