"The rugged hunter bent low, running a hand across the depression in the thick mud and glanced back, nodding once.
It had come this way.
The creature had stolen the child from the village in the night - broken in through the back door of Joris's home and carried it through the shattered remains of the window. It was sinewy and long, green of skin and loped with a stride twice that of a normal man.
Joris shouted, "This way!" to the rest of the assembled villagers, striding into the murk with his torch aloft and naked blade in hand. The others followed, their dancing torch light fading into the growing mist of the swamp as they gave chase to the creature.
A few moments later, the light was gone.
Swallowed by the swamp."
This is a Random Encounter map I designed to be a stand-in for the Mere of the Dead Men in Storm Lord's Wrath, providing a variety of areas and goodly amount of space for the potential encounters suggested therein. It could just as easily be a swamp in your own game world or homebrew.
The map contains several different bogs, large stones, dark trees, wisps o light and a few other points of interest such as an old, ruined tower, a circle of stones, hole at the base of a dead tree and some other spots that could be tied to a narrative.
I also included some Concept Art to help set the mood, as well as [2] Snail Mount Tokens to represent the ones from the module in SLW (jail & cart).
I hope you enjoy!
