This is a revised version of the Restored Cragmaw Castle, from Lost Mine of Phandelver.
As locations such as these are liberated from the dangerous creatures infesting them in a given module, many PC's want to either assume the location as their own, or see it restored by a group of NPC's to serve as an allied location for their party.
In this case, the Cragmaw Castle has been restored to serve as a Player Headquarters or other facility supporting an organization or small community.
The 1st Floor (pictured above) contains:
- Guard Barracks - A small guard barracks exists in the northwestern corner, providing sleeping quarters for anywhere between 10 - 30 soldiers (depending on hot bunking) assigned to various parts of the castle.
- Armory - South of the barracks lay an armory with suits of armor, swords, shields and other weapons to protect the castle against invaders.
- Dining Hall - A large dining hall exists near the center of the castle, offering the occupants a comfortable place to gather and entertain important guests.
- Small Shrine - A small shrine located neat the center of the castle offers a place to pray and conduct religious ceremonies important to the inhabitants.
- Kitchen & Larder - A small kitchen and attached larder offer ample storage and cooking supplies for supporting the guards, officers and denizens of the castle.
- War Room - A circular library and table provide a map of the surrounding region and area for members to discuss strategic plans, foreign or domestic.
- Granary - A large chamber contains several storage bins filled with grain, ale and a stairs leading down toward a cellar.
- Officer's Quarters & Office - The northeastern tower has been repurposed as an officer's quarters, containing an office, sleeping quarters and private bath.
The 2nd Floor (second picture above) contains:
- Library - A cozy library for containing relics of adventures, tomes and books of worth, as well as a handful of magical knick-knacks the party may accrue over time. There is an area that could be used as a Teleportation Circle, but could also just be decoration.
- Common Room - A large common area for the castle inhabitants lay here with plenty of available eating, games to play, cozy fire and some trophies of achievements earned. What better place for PC's to argue over where next to go?
- Baths - A chamber containing three oversized tubs and privies lay on this level, providing ample resources to get all cleaned up.
- Themed Bedrooms - This level contains [5] private bedrooms loosely themed around particular lasses -- Paladin/Cleric, Rogue, Fighter/Barbarian, Bard and Wizard.
I asked several folks ask if there could be a Lower Level, as well, so have added that to the restored version and included it with this update.
The Underground Level contains:
- Wine Cellar - located beneath the kitchen and accessed by a stairwell there, a modest wine cellar is one of the two entries into the lower level.
- Vault - a vault with an other room with clerk's desk and inner room with room for artifacts and treasures exists behind sturdy, locked doors.
- Brewery - what party doesn't want the ability to brew their own ales, and with some expansive room downstairs, it's time to experiment with all those exciting recipes!
- Guard Barracks - it may have been a mistake to place the guard barracks so near the brewery, but no one's escape the dungeons yet, so no farm, no foul?
- Dungeon - you may not need to imprison a hundred people, but the occasional one or two NPC's that may happen to be working for a BBEG could have a nice relaxing spot.
- Sparring Room or Summoning/Teleporation Room - I got a lot of requests for both of these, so I tried to provide something that could be used either way. A nice large raised platform that could be for sparring matches, or for magical mysteries.
- Servant's Quarters - A small servant's quarters is here to help house the staff.
- Small Office Quarters - a small private office and quarters for the leader of the staff, guards, or perhaps an important NPC ally?
- Artificer Bedroom - As the upstairs already had bedrooms for ighter/barbarian, rogue, wizard, bard and cleric/paladin, there were requests for an Artificer themed bedroom.
- Warlock Bedroom - There were, likewise, requests for a Warlock themed bedroom with a secret area for their precious spellbooks and Patron-oriented business.
I hope you guys enjoy the updates and the new Lower Level!
Even if you aren't running LMoP, this would make a great castle, or the Lower Level would make a great lair for some organization or person in your story.
