Thanks!

I'm just here for the story :) if the crafting isn't 99.99999999% right I'm really not gonna care at all. Someone, somewhere, is going to find fault with anything; that's just the internet. I like that there's a substantial crafting component partially because it prevents the story from being endless repetitive action sequences, tbh. And it's another structured area where the MC can progress and learn. And it is a nice way to reveal the world mechanics. But that's just me.

Milandaanza

So one thing that stands out is she knows forcing fire mana out at rapid speed equals fireball and a sword chock full of fire mana. I’d definitely be abusing that sword to throw fireballs.

Ilya Hamisoniya

seems like getting close to the spiders is not such a good idea, it's suicide for everyone without high level

Dude, if you want to know more about archery, check a 5 minute video on youtube called "Lars Andersen: A new level of archery".

Daniel Dawson

I enjoyed your chapter. Thanks! As far as changing the bow is concerned, I think it was right to do so. She really didn't have time to work out all the fiddly bits necessary to create one, using the tools and materials available, even had she been an expert in the process. Although, it is possible to have her eventually introduce something like this, if you really want to. You already have the beginnings in place. Once she can reliably watch and review her memories, it is quite possible for her to pull up the details of a lot of Earth knowledge. However, if you decide to do so, I'd suggest foreshadowing it a bit beforehand. From what we already know, it can be expected for her to have seen videos on metals, metal processing, and other science club topics. Having her eventually use her soul skill to 'remember' all the details of those videos isn't too much of a stretch - eventually. But its still a bit early for such to happen. She needs to master reviewing her memories first.

I really wish you'd highlight the updates in chapters you retcon. I absolutely hate rereading things, but I would like to know what was changed. Unfortunately this seems to be becoming a common practice of updating plot in a previously released chapter and then telling us in the next chapter we need to go back and read the previous one again. Just give us a summary of the changes before the new chapter, or highlight them or something. If it's not a major change, don't bother telling us. Love the story, and that you are updating it to be better, but it's rather irksome to be periodically be told I have to go back and reread something without specifics.

I personally don't care that much about the realism of the crafting process, but a "hater" like the author seems to. Compound bows may have the same use as recurve bows but the level of tech required to make them are worlds apart. Without specialized materials, machine tools, and a complete understanding of their design it is simply impossible to make a compound bow. She didn't strike me as the engineering genius to come up with a working design in a few days. She would have had a much easier time making him a rifle instead of a compound bow.

D

You changed it to a recurve bow? Oo Id wager the people of that world can do that on their own. Seriously, there was no need to exchange a compound bow for something like that. Id like to know wich fool said it needs to replaced, but im to lazy to read the stupid rumpling of some haters.

Garend

Because that would take ages?

lenkite

Ok, why the awkward Torch? She has a [Ranger] next to her. Use a [Fire Arrow] or [Incendiary Arrow] No need to get close to the monster at all and awkwardly throw that torch. Frankly, Roland should have told her this and they should have changed their plan. Coat the arrow with the same stuff that the Torch burns with, light the arrow with the torch and then shoot it.

Håvard

Watched this video today, was interesting. If noting else arrows where getting destroyed when they it something. So expect her to have to make a lot more arrows for him. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DBxdTkddHaE

It still uses magical metal in place of wood in thw bow. That is not an normal bow.

Bobtur

So what about the bow ? It used to say it was a compound bow which main frame was made out of a two layered metal that was twisted upon itself. We don't have anymore detail about the bow's look anymore. It is not a compound bow anymore, but a recurve one, yet Camdem is still amazed. Does that means they only have longbows ? Does the main frame kept its look (twisted) ?

Gremlin Jack

Great chapter, though I kinda winced when they were testing the bow. I've never used one, but the little bit of reading I did all mentioned that dry-firing a compound bow can actually damage it. Well, no reason anyone there should know that bit of trivia. And I have to say, the mind boggles at the energy behind a solid steel arrow fired from a compound bow scaled for superhuman strength. As Shadiversity on Youtube pointed out, archery is the real advantage for any super-strong person. He put bows as the preferred weapons for orcs, based on common fantasy tropes regarding their strength.

Thanks for the chapter. With these spiders approaching to me it seems like a good idea to call for adventurers or mercenaries or whatever equivalent this world has for monster hunters. Or at the very least arm the villagers with weapons literally designed to cut through things like the spider legs (bill hooks, war scythes, even mancarchers with blades on the inside) spears don't seem like they would be all that effective given the spider's size and making them entirely out of metal takes too long.

While the original Damascus steel may have been the result of inconsistent metal quality (leading Smiths to develop ways of combining ingots in the ways that created the pattern) modern Damascus Steel is made more for its looks by combining different metals in similar ways to the original. There are some pretty interesting videos of it on YouTube (including one where a guy makes Damascus using nickel and copper that looks amazing). Since this was a gift bow the Damascus steel was likely just the modern cosmetic version as compound bows don't use the body of the bow to create the launching force.

Don't worry about the pace, taking your time to enjoy yourself and write quality content is more important

I would say everyone have different thresholds for suspension of disbelief. And most of the time we were thought by fantasy authors to not expect any or very little of accuracy. For me flaming katana is fine, as I guess it is magic material and it would be effective against wind based creatures as per story own lore. Would you want a weapon that cauterize the wounds as you inflict them when fighting a human? I guess not. The same could be said about fireballs, if you get into mechanics they don’t make sense. What exactly you are burning? Would the actually do that much of a damage? Wouldn’t accelerating a rock be actually be more effective? But they are cool so we just accept them as fantasy trope. I guess as this is a crafting story people interested in it demand a bigger focus on accuracy. I find it interesting how much flak the bow gets when the spear for me was much more immersion breaking. But I am much more into melee weapons than into archery, which shows how much such things are personal preference. Don’t get me wrong the bow is ridiculous, but I guess I don’t have enough knowledge to properly “appreciate” how ridiculous. Damascene steel is what got me in this chapter. The pattern is form a forging method and from impurities in Metal present at that particular region. Not from two different metals used together. I guess the author is not having enough time and is giving into pressure to release chapters. Please don’t. The earlier chapters in my opinion were much better. That said it is commendable the author is taking critique well and adapting. I appreciate fixing the worst of the spear crafting from the last chapter. I am steel leery about he weight but that is actually plausible in the setting. If we assume we are to be alpha readers to catch such things I am fine with that. I would also point out that the last two chapters I am not sure if all MC interactions were that convincing. The mum for me is being portrayed too heavy handed. We get she is supposed to be mama bear. She could be more subtle about it. To sum it up it is up to author to do what he believes is best for the story. If he agrees with the comments great if not it’s their right to ignore them. If you want to have ridiculous bows or spears then great ;). For that reason I didn’t got into rant why katanas are objectively not that amazing. In a weird way MC didn’t having any deep knowledge of the sword makes sense to be drawn to this overhyped piece of metal :). If I would give one advice would be to announce hiatus, recharge batteries on the holiday and then get back to writing. I believe not stressing about posting when you can’t dedicate enough time to do it would make you and story a lot of good.

THe compound bow makes his apearance. =D She used 400 mana last time, didnt she? So why use 500 this time and then compare it with how long it works? Shoudnt it have compensated for the delay?

Stephen Pearson

She never figured out how to shoot a fireball; her previous experiments with fire were cut off as they... didn't go well.

tibbish

Maybe retconn in giving him a whisker biscuit on the bow to mitigate friction issues?

CyclopsSlayer

The Helix Arrowhead is fine, but do you realize what a steel fletching and shaft would do to the bow and wielder? The fletching would run against the grip and body of the bow, bending the fletching that as steel wouldn't return to shape and the guarantee the arrow would fly off course. as well: http://ffden-2.phys.uaf.edu/webproj/212_spring_2015/Addis_Gonzalez/Addis_Gonzalez/the-archers-paradox.html THE PHYSICS BEHIND ARCHERY HOME INTRODUCTION & HISTORY BOW ARROW THE ARCHER'S PARADOX ARCHERY IN POP CULTURE BIBLIOGRAPHY What is the archer's paradox? It is the bending of the arrow upon the release of the bow and the eventual straightening out of the arrow when it hits the target. The archer's paradox causes 'fishtailing' which occurs due to the friction between the fingers and the strings as it slips off. As the fingers slide to the right, there is a friction force acting to the right as well. This force leaves upon release and the draw string accelerates to the plane of the bow (to the left). To control this, tab releases, in place of bare fingers, are used which reduce the friction but do not eliminate it entirely. Essentially, The arrow is pointing to the right of the target. There is a force and a moment at this point. The arrow is now in line with the target, and then moves slightly to the left. There is a moment at the center of mass of the arrow and the equation used is the rigid body equation, which equals I α. I is the inertia and α is the angular acceleration. The arrow leaves bow and flies directly to the target. It is fully oscillating at this moment. Picture Picture Picture

Very fun chapter. Some concerns about her ability to even know how to make a compound bow, let alone ability to make one. Also, these people wouldn't know what Damascus steel is without Damascus existing. What you're describing in story isn't Damascus steel, btw

Brell

Thanks for the new chapter! For people who want a look at something like the wind spiders of this work - here is a video about solifugae - ten-legged spider-like creatures found in deserts around the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a9o6j0S570

matticide FOWD

Thanks for the chapter! Dammit, Ronald! Respect yo weapon! Maybe have Ronald shoot an arrow into a suit of armour or something and it go fletching-deep instead of dry-firing, would make him seem recklessly psyched about his new weapon instead of an incompetent archer who damages it within seconds

tibbish

How come she didn't just shoot a fireball off at the magnesium? Would've been safer, easier, and she had plenty mana left to do it.

Miritar

Never. EVER. dry fire any kind of bow. your dry firing a bow with inhuman strength. dry firing sends all the force of the bow into the bow and possibly even back into the holder of the bow. he would have ruined that bow. even possibly his arm.

Andrew

Thank you!

Kristaps Kramins

She isn't using it in front of everyone. Only her family, Del and Roland know. Oh and Sarah but thats because she followed the clues

Håvard

Yhe all the enegry that normally goes into the arrow have nowhere to go so it goes into the bow damaging it.

Signspace

Yeah, compound bows are an incredible feat of engineering, and while I don't think it's far fetched that she could make one with general knowledge, after a week of testing with a Master Smith on hand, I do think difference in their use should be clearer. I was gonna make a comment about the Archer's Paradox, which focuses more the the arrows. Adding in a line that the arrows were made to be flexible (like a rapier is flexible) would make sense, if you look up the Archer's Paradox, you'll know why this is important, but in short, and arrow needs to be able to bend and sway in flight in order to maintain a straight trajectory, the spiral design on these arrows might help, but honestly not more than a good fletching would.

Nick

Thanks for the chapter.

M. Gunnarsson

Turns out the guy was just reincarnated in Finland all along. *shrug*

Talek

When did she start using magic in front of others did i miss something or maybe give a bit more background as to her change in attitude.

BritishBob

Thanks for the chapter. Got to agree with the others about the bow. The katana is so so. Depends how involved she will be in the future as far as fighting goes. A unique weapon if she doesn't do a lot of the hero stuff would be fine.

Darastrix

Greetings mr author, I must compel you to do some extra research for the purpose of accuracy in the novel. First off do some more research on classical bow vs compound bow draw weight distribution, I am saddened there weren't any praises about how impressive it is for what she just managed there. Where the classical bows has a linear draw going from easy to hard the more you draw it, the compound bow is incredible in the way the nearly all of it's draw weight is drawn in the first few inches, making it incredibly efficient and impressive. The second thing I suggest doing research on it is edge alignment of swords, especially Katanas. While true it has basically "automatic edge alignment" essentially making it the best beginner sword, there will be difficulties if the MC ever changes swords to a straight edge, especially reverse edge swords because she actually needs to be skilled to do damage with the sword then instead of relying on physics to do the work for her. So I would personally think that the katana is hindering her skill progression, because she can only wield katana like swords.

Emby

Waiting for MC to create soy sauce and proclaim the glories of rice.

Emby

Dry firing a vow causes vibrations to mess up the bow. A skilled archer or woodsman would never do that. Also bunch of spelling errors / incorrect words used.

Arkeus

Not exactly a fan of her 'creating' compound bows or how she talks about Damascus steel and so on. Also, this chapter had sarcastic tone thorough that I don't remember being there in her PoV before, especially while fighting.

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter!

Call0013

I wonder if her Acting and Charm will level up from the Show they had to put on as they left the Village or mabye some sort of Social/Charima based skills to help her With her New Role as one of her Villages champions.

Ungrave

Good chapter. I'm hungry for some crab now, as well as hungry for more fire katana action. I picture this video whenever it's mentioned https://youtu.be/__O5YMmboFQ
