The expectations ppl have for our MC is a bit unreal. I understand the decisions she has made so far and honestly she has never been good at on the spot decisions. Like ever. She has so far only truly shone either with extensive preparations or life or death situations. Anything in between has so far been a serious weak point for her. It has been shown repeatedly in her interaction with Carmen, Roland , her parents , even the silver hand . So I am not surprised that she acted like this. What does suprise me tho is her reaction to the outcome. She is prone to just mentally braking down whenever she faces a challenge she can not seemingly overcome. But her suprise at her defeat still rubs me the wrong way. Overall I guess that what makes this chapter seemingly unacceptable for most people is how it's put together. I feel that there are other ways to have put this together without pissing off most readers. I have read many books with battle maniacs as characters but they get especially unlikable whenever they are expressed to be nothing but battle junkies. I have also complained severally about the posting schedule but it seems like change is not going to be effected anytime soon. But I'll put this word of caution out there again. If at any time people cannot trust you to keep your word then you are doing whatever you are doing wrong . I like this book but honestly I do not trust the author. And because I cannot trust you to keep your word it becomes much easier to doubt every other thing you do and it makes for a sour reading experience.

Putting my opinion out there of where this is going to go. Everything has been going too well for Pacore. He thinks he's invincible, can't lose, and just got the apprentice of his dreams. Olebert on the other hand, has been just too incompetent up till now. I suspect a trap by Olebert. The best bait; these cities, their lords, Pitz.... doesn't even know it's bait. Pacore would be captured or killed, the same courtesy he extended to Pitz not given to him, Olebert would learn of our MC and may show a dark side. Tabitha is still there. Just an idea; could be more interesting.

LootGoblin21

I'm pretty sure almost all of the comments are asking that, I think the author will go that route next chapter. I would be in line with mc character too.

Derze

is there any reason she has to sit and listen? cant she just leave?

Softserve

Only thing I can think needs work is the argument scene, I can't help think back to the lord of the rings where they were discussing if they would go to Moria or not. Each would express their opinions and back them up with their reasons and dispute each other's reasons before it devolved into shouting.

Some POV shifts in stories are done exceptionally well . While others.. primal hunter . Are done carelessly and leave us dragging ourselves across multiple chapters we could care less about . I do quite enjoy yours . Pacore is actually a nice character to read. Btw not sure if you should have a poll like that after the chapter is posted . It makes predisposed, That’s it’s gonna suck

Gil

This guy is 100% right

Solid chappy to be honest, although i see why some people might find the other pov's a nice change of pace, personally I tend to only enjoy pov changes when it still involves the mc so I'm unable to have a proper critique on that without it being biased! Other than that I think the way the other apprentice was introduced was good! To those saying Aaliyah was acting childish even when she is technically mentally older, you have to remember she died young and in her second life was busy improving herself and training basically from birth so I'm not surprised she never learned to mature mentally since maturity doesn't come with age but with experience which obviously could be tied to age but in this case clearly isn't. I actually think she should double down here and just go back to the forge or go out and train in the forest. As much as it would be nice for her to have allies in a strange land, she shouldn't simply roll over and let every single person with even slight ties to Pacore walk over her. Besides showing some spine here might be a good thing. Especially since tabitha seems to be the one who wants to speak to Aaliyah most likely about manners or how she is supposed to act meaning there is no incentive for Aaliyah to actually sit down.

1, it was entirely in Sandra's character to manipulate the situation in order to get her father off her back; If you'll remember, he's the one that was being difficult. She's also pregnant with Richard's child, and still living with her parents. Sandra's the daughter of a politician and a socialite that is also one of the rare people with magical talent. She's predisposed to schemes. Aaliyah has been manipulating people since she was a baby. She'd definitely be fine with that plot. 2, I think Aaliyah and the disciple just don't see eye-to-eye on the situation. Most people in the story's world wouldn't. All of them told Aaliyah to take the deal because they know exactly what it means. Aaliyah's ideas about being free are born from her old world. She's right, of course, but that doesn't mean everyone else in the new world (who know nothing other than monarchy and might-makes-right via the system) can sympathize. 3, Del has stopped being able to help Aaliyah. He might always be her Master in her mind, but he wanted her to take the deal because he knows he can't help her advance any further. Allowing her to leave is really his final way to make his Apprentice grow. It's sad, but true. 4, The Emperor wouldn't do that. If anything, he'd protect them from others that might. He needs to aid her to get the most levels out of her talent, but if she levels high enough to be worth that sort of investment it makes her unbelievably dangerous to cross. Through skills, anything is possible. So there's no contract or measure that would be sufficient to control someone that powerful, other than their willing compliance. So you want to be their friend, not their tyrant.

Was a pretty solid set up chapter in my opinion, not really too exciting but setting the stage for the plot to move forward. That said the interactions between the knight and Aaliyah felt weird - The knight shouldn't have started by antagonizing her as presumably, she should be able to infer that she is important by how Pacore is treating her. There's no reason for Aaliyah to act childish so childish - she's roughly 35+ years old overall at this point, and there is no reason for the knight to think just sitting still is a good plan when Aaliyah has no obligation to wait there or listen to her and can just walk out. Entire interaction just comes off a bit weird

In order to give you solid advice, we would need to know what you were planning on accomplishing with the chapter and where it was suppose to go. The only real part I had issue with was Sandra, and her plot to live with Richard. I think it was disrespectful and the fact the MC went along with it, I felt was not true to her character and she nor Richard would do that to her parents. Honestly, I hope MC wins the battle of wills with her senior disciple or MC will find herself bogged down with traditions and expectations she does not want or need. If it was me I would wait 5 minutes then turn and walk out. Saying I am a work class stiff who has no time to deal with Lady knights and their tea. I might have to play these games with Deathless but I don't with you. Are you phasing Master out of the story, it seems as if it is returning slowly to his pre Aaliyah days, or is he mulling over moving with his student. Aaliyah parents maybe share their thoughts on why they are following her to Scholl. Have, they thought of the dangers to them, to be used to insure Aaliyah's compliance if not by deathless but others she does not have a contract with. I know he would protect them but is he willing to betray the new king for them?

Tyler

Master told me how magicite is rare in large quantities but exactly hard to find in general." I think you mean. not exactly hard to find in general.

BlodWedd

It's a bit stiff with all the POV's but transion chapter tend to be like this be advice just move on if in a couple of chapters you want to revise then do it

Fullfirewall

With how fine this chapter is it begs the question, how ambitious were you about this chapter? I have a few inklings of what could be more but without what specific parts are causing discomfort I can't really pinpoint what might be an issue.

ShadeByTheSea

honestly the chapter seems fine to me :/

tibbish

Yeah the chapter is solid. Just some self doubt that is making your self sabotage a bit there

Andrew

Thank you!

Docnox

I also see little reason to write out pacore’s pov or the war narrative at all. The story is about Aly, we learn when she learns. Stick with your MC.

Melting Sky

This chapter is perfectly fine. As far as setup chapters go, it's solid. After finishing a chapter, it isn't a bad idea to come back fresh after a night's rest and do a single quick pass to reflect a little on your work and make some minor revisions. It is however poison for your mind when you begin to constantly second guess yourself and fixedly worry about how others will receive your work. As the old adage goes, if you constantly try to please everyone, you will end up pleasing no one. Write the story YOU want to write. Don't second guess yourself worrying about whether or not your readers will be pleased. It is a vicious circle that will undermine your creative process and worse yet it will poison your will to keep on writing. You will come to hate the process of creating which is the worst possible outcome for any sort of creator whether they be an author, artist, or even a blacksmith. If you just keep at it your writing skills will become polished by time and experience whereas if you fixate on the small flaws and blemishes or random people's complaints it will destroy your ability to create at all because you will come to resent it.

Aclys

I'll echo the sentiment of everyone else, the chapter is a fine step forwards providing progression and perspectives from the main players of the story right now (that we have partaken of, giving us the perspective of the actual leaders of each nation would spoil things no doubt, interesting as it would be to read). There's a bunch of interesting little bits and tasty nuggets of new information about the world mixed in with the introduction of a new character, I have no real complaints at all.

Chris Robinson

This chapter is fine, I thunk yoy might be beung overly critical of your own work

Soundlesssteps

In Aaliyah's position, I would try to force Tabitha's hand by heading into the forest. Tabitha is obviously loyal and letting her go into the forest unguarded would run counter to Pacore's direct orders. A Level 90 guard would be just as good as the armor Aaliyah planned to have, and would finally give her a chance to practice Devour Soul.

I actually really loved this chapter. I think you’re doing such a marvelous job of making every single character complex and interesting. This is one of the biggest reasons I love your story. And the world building you have been doing in recent chapters is really amazing, I love what you are creating. My only concern for this story is that you feel too much pressure from the schedule that’s been set that you feel like you’re behind. I can’t speak for others, but I’m here because I think the story is good, not because it is released at a specific time every week. Regardless, I like how the story and characters are progressing. Keep up the good work!

Black Unicorn

I could see it if the it's a reincarnation story where the MC died OLD like 80+ or was some kind of scientist or engineer then it's ok they have age or training to show why they are that way but a 30 year old office lady NOPE not seeing that one ever being real.

Black Unicorn

I agree and disagree at the same time. This is a VARY VARY good setup chapter but i think a few tweaks could make it a bit better, although some of them are adding words you missed or using a better word to convey what you want to say. I'd give it 97 out of 100 for setup chapters... but to be honest I've never seen a perfect one yet in the over 2500 book's I've read in the last 28 years so it's not really worth fixing other then the like 2 misspelled or missing words you had that i saw i just hope you keep up the level you always have it at this one just exceeds that level so great job on an awesome chapter.

Infinate Fail

I dont like the constant pov change. I would rather we get a chapter per pov, than 1/3rd of each, requiring 3 chapters just to get some progress. Instead we get 3 cliff hangers a chapter!

Stian Douglas Hillgaar

Ok chapter. Miss abit her insight into finding New ways to train her stats. I mean she has her extra detailed perception on stat progression...

Inphelia

I thought the chapter was ok. It doesnt have to be action all the time, or it becomes exhausting to read. And for all the people saying the MC is acting childish: she is kinda still very young so thats to be expected :D If I ever have to read another story with a super hyper logical always perfect child MC it will be one to many.

Steven Palmer

Loved it,. It was an easy steady flow and painted an easy picture of the situation! Great chapter

Imspinnennetz

I wonder if Pacore should use General Pitz as bait to get the defenders to sally out if the towers do not work.

HardhatDoozer

Really the threads are here: - engraving ink - siege of Blaiton - marriage of Sandra and Richard - who is Aaliyah’s new mentor and what are they like. So I endorse this chapter.

HardhatDoozer

And Tabitha can surely help scratch her training itch. So forced or not this is a great path forward for Aaliyah. If you notice even she knows that there are plenty of common knowledge gaps she has and could use to learn about. I’m sure Tabitha could help with those too.

HardhatDoozer

The suggested rule that the MC is in every chapter for at least part of it is sound. We always love reading about Aaliyah. Pitt, Pacore, Grey and Giovanni took a while to warm up to. That’s fine. I really appreciated this chapter.

1536539

I have to say the MC is being a petulant child, I think it is about time for her to grow and mature mentally, I mean her behavior is completely emotional and does not logically benefit her in any way, weather she wishes to antagonize pacore or not the logical thing to do would be to lay low until she has more strength/information/tricks up her sleeve.

I liked it. You might be over thinking things and just need to go with your gut. Sometimes a mediocre chapter is required to progress the story OR a few leading chapters prior to getting to the excitement. Everything can't always be exciting. My only thought is to break it apart with a Padcore chapter and a separate MC chapter. That way you can get through each part with continuity. I felt like I wanted more from both storylines here. But still enjoyable.

I feel since this is a setup chapter it would take more "thought" than others maybe expand with a second setup chapter or expand on this one. The only incongruity I felt in this chapter was the fact you switch from mc chapter to Blaiton front back to mc then back to Blaiton front. Even then it wasn't an issue because there was a time skip with the mc and different povs with the Blaiton front. Overall it was a picture perfect setup chapter. Setup chapters are not the most exciting but probably the most important world build chapters. I do really look forward with what you do with the "showdown with Tabitha. Personally I would find it kind of funny or interesting if Aaliyah went all in on the confrontation. For example if she just popped into her soul to pass time (if she could go into it standing up) or something different. She might feel super embarrassed after this whole showdown is down but it would really put her on the same stubborn level as Pacore in everyone's mind against her most dire wishes.

The other DB

The feather is a display of their power/rank. They talked about it before the siege at the fort.

Osprey36

I think the issue you might be struggling with is that you know you want this to end in a certain way, but you are trying to make it get there in a way that is convincing to the readers. For that I applaud you, since it could easily be hand waived away in the background but you want to show us how it all goes down.

andrew

I think the chapter was very good jt helped to flesh out the world building a little bit. Would be cool to see in the future a little more about the different styles like why pacore and tabitha have feathers in their hair and if it has any meaning

The other DB

She is childish, but I attribute it to taking out her frustration on the nearest outlet. I hope to see some character growth, maybe spending time surrounded by more talented and powerful people will have an impact.

Jon

Thanks for the chapter. I see nothing wrong with it.

Tetsuki

Actually that was the worst threat ever... Waiting 2 days? Where is the mc obligated to even listen to her? The attitude is just annoying. She could just leave, her problem if she doesn't want to talk. And mc is a bit childish this chapter. A very aggressive approach to someone you will probably have to spend time with.

"breath, dear." -> breathe

Straven

I personally loved it quite a bit, I know there's going to be quit the quite fighting going on between these two apprentices and I personally am thinking I'm going to quite enjoy it! Plus that little maneuver in where she would be roomed while the newest member of the village stayed was absolutely delicious!!!!! Nice way to move in with her fiancé vs staying with her family! Oh and of course thank you so very much for this great chapter, I loved reading through it and know I'll be enjoying the future even more!

Nick

Thanks for the chapter

Nick

Yeah pretty much

J3_Haustkottr

On a first read, nothing really jumps out at me as being wrong with it. That said, there's also nothing wrong with putting in some extra work until you're satisfied with it, so, as much as I always want to see what happens next, I say go with your instincts.

Dikfor

Master told me how magicite is rare in large quantities but exactly hard to find in general missing the word -not-
