The offhand mentioning about level 100...can we expect a significant boost at level 100? Otherwise it does seem arbitrary to make that a sign of her being ready in the face of skills and magic. To reach that level she would have to level skills/have the skills to kill high level beings but what if she gets them by crafting the most awesome toilet? ...now I want an awesome toilet.

Can't he be concerned about the village because he's a human being? Like, it was a single off hand question. Anyone would make it.

Sondadir

I hope he envisions Aaliyah forging a Bec-de-Corbin, they are magnificent Warhammer topped with a spike. The whole thing is very lethal !

Miriduriel

So it's past 8pm in California so hopefully the chapter should come out in the next 6 hours :) It's 5am where i'm staying so hopefully it's out by the time i wake up :D

I'm confused as to what you mean by war hammer. Most of the time, people are talking about a maul. They're thinking fantasy weapons, though they were quite real, if less ornate. Those are large two-handed hammers, similar to sledges. But there are more elegant versions that are just as, or more, deadly.

Magic for range.

As interested as I am I'm hoping we don't find out till they meet up with MC again. I hope the story sticks with her for the next few months, or she runs out of her ore, so she can develop prior to more war/merchant stuff.

Kapelteta

Yep i like the sword, hammer, axe combo. Only thing missing is a ranged option. Wonder if she will consider a crossbow for that? It would be interesting to see what materials she would use to construct it. It would leverage her knowledge and crafting skill to a greater degree than just a bow would, in my opinion.

IJustWannaRead

So glad she is choosing a war hammer or axe. Unless warhammer is a different skill than hammer, she literally levels it every day in the forge. Of course it’s different than actual combat experience with a hammer, and maybe I’m misunderstanding her skill, but it just makes more sense to use a weapon that she can level even when not fighting (axe or hammer) and while doing her job. She’s a smith, not an adventurer, she doesn’t have the time to go diving into ruins and fighting monsters just to level her sword skill. Great decision.

Vyktor

Really interesting, full of schemes and crafts 😆

Thundermike00

Is the next chapter or part of it going to be focusing on the merchant and how he fought the assassins?

Justin

Thanks for the chapter! I'm looking forward to her sword, dagger and axe. Her time with Sandra will be great to hear about. And then some good ol' adventure into a magical f'in Forrest!!! With her and her master finding new ore or beast parts for crafting. Lots to be excited for!

I agree with everything you said except of the weapon. The reason why polearms were used is to combat heavy armor. If you want to go on an adventure and not on a battlefield polearms are not a very good pick. The best you can do if you want to travel and are afraid you have to defend yourself is a twohanded sword or a spear. Why? Because of reach and the nimbleness of the weapon. You can redirect a sword or a spear way faster than an axe or a polearm (you can say a spear is a polearm but i am talking about halberds and billhooks etc.). And secondly you would want some kind of ranged weapon because there may be enemies who are either flying or two hard to reach with a normal weapon. This is just my opinion so feel free to correct me ;)

Malchome

Given her previous life I wonder if she will name the hammer, Aegis-fang or Mjolnir

Brigandine seems like it would be a good armor choice (it's the stuff Hollywood keeps portraying as studded leather, it's actually a series of plates held together by cloth or leather). Some knights preferred it over plate mail because it could be put on quickly without help and was more flexible without sacrificing too much protection. As for weapons a Bill hook would be a great choice, it was literally a "poor man's halberd" because it did all the same things as a halberd but was a modified farm tool.

Good chapter!

GuyWhoReadsALot

Hey, I'd love more chapters coming faster... But that's because you write entertaining stuff, so keep it up, good job!

tibbish

Yup. She does do a whole lot of work to level up her other skills though I suppose she could do the poison and other resistance training while doing other stuff. Multi-tasking and all that right? Just gulp down some poison and go for a good run!! She go blow chunks in the woods even, how convenient!! Hell she can probably use her 'flying' skill to get some air and puke on the birds. Those fuckers poop on people all the time you know they deserve it.

Andrew

Thank you!

Meh

Before, the MC didn’t mention resistance skills because she wasn’t sure how rare they are. Now that she knows about mental resistance and heat resistance from her master, why doesn’t she ask about how to gain them? If it was me, I’d instantly start working on poison resistance at least

Bonobo

Thanks for the chapter, loved it!!

Finally some long awaited crafted chapters. The overall plot is fine and all, but this stuff is what made me pick up this series in the first place. I don't understand jack shit about smithing, but it's so fun to watch someone else making their craft. It's like watching video essays on youtube about topics you have no idea what they are about. Thanks for the chapter.

Bodoroo

Doesn't stop them from having business with her. And while it's probably frustrating that they won't be able to bind someone they have invested so much in, its probably better than having her being taken by someone else like Grey.

Sondadir

She doesn't want an heavy armor. Riveted mail is useful for protecting the joints, but it is one of the heaviest parts of armor. In addition, she will mainly fight against creatures in the deepest part of the forest. Preparing to face a beast or a human is quite different. She cannot afford to wear armor that would burn her stamina too quickly, or prevent her from making rapid movements.

I kind of expected Giovanni to be unhappy about Aaliyah’s ability to break contracts. It might solve the current crisis, but in the long run it means she can hold others to contracts but they can't hold her to anything. It's a disadvantage in negotiations, and it also makes it much harder to tie her to them long term.

PortlandPhil

riveted mail under plates would solve her problem with exposed joints, at least for her arms and neck. Mail also covers the stomach which avoids the need for an articulated waist, or just getting stabbed in the stomach. Modern body armor styles with plates in a carrier are pretty much useless in a world with ancient martial combat, ie swords and spears. If you are thinking of "spartan" style armor you should remember their armor was complemented by a large shield that covered much of their exposed body. linked plate armor was really only ever worn over mail. If you don't have mail you don't buy plates you buy mail, plates are extra. With super strong combatants, it makes sense, especially against arrows, but without base armor, it's not very useful.

Ungrave

Excited to see what this war hammer will turn out like. These crafting chapters are definitely my favourite thing. Thanks for the chapter!

Thanks for the chapter! Corrections: 1) Camden and his two guards stand around looking somber, sipping tea like they're about to be executed. (Should be Kervin) Great chapter, although Reel should have asked if there was another way out of the village closer to Bastion as to avoid the ambush. One person can't protect 3. Loved her back at the forge, it would be nice if you include art to show some of the process, like the crucibles (by the way when you list out the pots, you. Describe them out of order. What that deliberate?). Will Sandra stop by to watch the magical working? Oooh, will MC be able to update her skill on breaking contracts by breakingSandra contract with her Master so they can talk Magic? Not like the master can track them down now with war on the horizon and by then MC will have the money to pay any fees that come about. Will Mr Grey be suspicious when Kervin and crew does not come back? Did he really think even if everything was above board MC would not have told Kervin? Also by killing Kervin up front killed any chance of him being forgiven if and when she found out about the messed up contract? Nothing says she has to keep working. 🍄Thanks again.

Jack the Dream

Thanks and so happy to see the crafting joy
