The Epitome of Eccentricity

Those dang Dellinials are ruining the blacksmith business!

The Irregular

ooof that show of appreciation feels like a massive flag D:

Shadowsmage

brilliant as always

Sheeprat

I hope she goes back to using a axe or a warhammer as a smith sword fighting dose not really go well with her other skills

Vyktor

Thanks for the chapter! Can't wait to read the next, and the one after, and... I'll stop here... I really love this story, with many différents rythmes and POV making it sooo real 😖 Can't wait to see the General use the Arrow (with a capital A ). 😆

Alteron

I believe that Kosnik4 is on pacific time, that can create some confusion.

D

I still plan on having a chapter out on Thursday, so the schedule should stay the same. Sooooo, will there be a chapter or will there be none? The betting office is reluctant to take on beats, the outcome has been to random to give them clear numbers. x))

Melting Sky

The higher the level the slower it rises and it will likely split the exp with her magic smithing. Still, I bet she will get at least a few solid levels from this. It's a new masterwork which included working with new unknown tier 4 materials. Not only that but she is repeating the process 9 times.

Alteron

Her skill in Blacksmithing is 67 in chapter 56, so how far will it go during this project? I’m guessing 75, the time, dedication, new materials, it must all add up. Is my guess to high?

Alteron

This is a great chapter, I really got caught up in it.

smoze

damn, caught up to a cliffhanger...... Much love though, thanks for the story!

I don't really think there is any selective stupidity at all here. In regards to the arrow material cost, there is a good chance she won't make a profit on the first one but as she is an unknown blacksmith that is trying to impress a high status client it makes sense to have a loss leader. She was requested to make her best arrow and that is what she is trying to do, the cost can be ironed out later. Providing arrows to the silver trading company is not a big sacrifice to her, remember this is all an experiment as she doesn't know if she can create an acceptable product with her skill level as she doesn't have a frame of reference and regardless of her receiving a profit from selling it, she will most certainly learn something about handling expensive ores and avoids being significantly out of pocket. At the end of the day she is a craftsman not a merchant she creates value by applying her skill.

Maltec

its that its mithral being added, its covered in one of the chapters that other metals absorb it or it permeates them during the heating/smelting? process. there is even a mention of being careful what tools, molds etc are used to avoid it melding with those by accident and being wasted

Chemnerd263

I love your crafting chapters. I love the other chapters too, but I have always liked the idea of making things better than anything else you could find or buy, and mixing that with magic just makes it cooler! This is probably why I always go the blacksmith/enchanting route in skyrim...

thomas holder

hey, quick question about the method of making the alloy, I've never heard of this method of adding shavings to an already formed ingot, is it supposed to be based off of a pattern weld style eg. Damascus? i would think mixing the alloy in molten form and then casting would make more sense

RanaSuilep

The real question is how she can use %s for crafting but can't use them for trading and profit margins. She also talks about how much she got the metal for, but she is giving up arrows as part of that trade, with no idea of their final value. More selective stupidity.

Mr Ove

Lol love the name for the rock and the details of why she chose it just sad that it is such a good mana conductor with his secret lol

Håvard

The local level 50 archer have 150+ strengt don't remember the corect number. So the general have somewhere around 300, minimum.

Håvard

The metal have an true cost of 15 gold and is needed for 7 arrows so it's only 2 gold for each arrow. The true cost is closer to 6 gold for the materials needed for each arrow. See my coment a bit up for more info.

meatybyte

I'm curious, does she even know how strong the general is? All she was told was to make the best arrow she can for 10G ASAP. Does she have any guess on how much strength she is dealing with or even the level range of the general? Commissioned to build something without any specifications or context is never enjoyable. For all she knows the arrow could be too heavy or not have enough mana capacity while overspeced in compression strength and mana conductivity. Product design and material selection is always a balance of compromises. The story is still young but I hope we see more nuance as she gets better.

Scyfe

Thanks for the chapter, I like the name of the metal - feels very in character

Cerber

Thx for the chapter. I cant wait to see Aaliyah's skill increases! Also, if you are going to much the subject of romance, please do it thoroughly. Ive never seen a proper mental development of a gender bender character yet. Maybe a bit, but it wasn't done that properly.

D

Cant wait to see emilies reaction to the arrow. Didnt think they would use all the kagle.. metal. Sure, she said shed go a bit over budget, but isnt she, together with the mitril, fethers and stuff over double the budget? Thats not factoring in the working hours and the heating/smelting cost. All in all, its probably tripple the original budget. XD

Giperman

This chapter fulfilled my need for crafting chapters for a week. Thanks you.

Hunendora

Iirc, they plan to let her have this arrow at the 10g price, and let her know that if she wants more then she will be paying more for each arrow.

Ungrave

This sort of chapter is what I live for. The way you do crafting chapters is superb. I can't wait to see the finished arrow and how unreasonably good it is. Thanks for the chapter!

Todd Kloos

At 30 times the weight of a normal arrow, this arrow is pretty ridiculous. It's also ridiculously expensive. The kaglese alone is worth 15 gold, the mithril should be worth about another 3-4 gold, and the dellinium is probably more precious than either (though less of it is used). Then there is the fletching and the spider carapace that they are using as fuel. The value of the raw materials that made this arrow is probably over 20 gold. They are going to have to get General Pitz to pay much more than the 10 gold she offered before, otherwise they will be losing money with every arrow they make.

Kris

Thanks for the chapter

Hunendora

I found myself thinking similar thoughts. It sounds like she is reaching the end of usefulness for Del's equipment. Aaliyah is going to have to start thinking about setting up a higher tier smithy for herself.

thkiw

The master-apprentice relationship alliyah has with dell is super wholesome.

Carl Mason

The ore name is... acceptable. (I still prefer Obstenite, but whatever, it is your story.) The center on the other hand is fantastic, I love the crafting chapters. It does not get better than Aaliyah at the forge.

Endoria

I wonder when she will learn the metal's true name.

Brad

Man I love this. Can’t wait to see what the General thinks of the arrow.

ZCochraine!%

Nick and tcecrog had similar ideas on the poll, so I’ll credit them for thinking along the same lines, so a shoutout to them. Im just enjoying the story and happy that I inspired something. Now just imagine what happens when she gets her hand on a cartfull of the ore and makes all her blacksmithing tools out of it, with basic enchantment too. Just imagine how indestructible the anvil would be.

Bunny Waffles

I am in 100% agreement with you. I absolutely love a good crafting chapter, and yet at the same time I also really want to see what the General thinks of this monstrous masterpiece of an arrow! GAH! If only I could use a time machine to travel to the future and enjoy this series all the way through at once, I would die happy.

mmarkgraf212

No, that name sounds a little short, I (sinker) to myself. - Prob not the right word.

Andrew

Thank you!

Seth

Thanks for the chapter, it’s nice to see a little crafting again.

Mike G.

Mater tells me -- Master tells me; rectangle lump -- rectangular lump. I know I spotted another typo as I read but now I can't find it :(

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter!

DNAjester

Thanks for the chapter I felt the name fit nicely keep up the good work

Milandaanza

Oh I loved this chapter and the metal name is great. But I absolutely can’t wait to see the end result and especially the generals reaction
