Shadowsmage

another good chapter

lenkite

Looks like some Tunsgten natural alloy if it stubbornly melts at 3k+ celcius. PS: I find her nightmares a bit silly. Why doesn't she have Hobgoblins in there ? They are also humanoid and sentient.

CyclopsSlayer

Thanks for the chapter! "I might be left with only 800 grams to make the arrow shaft!" A titanium alloy arrow shaft would come in at approximately 10 grains per inch, 0.28 grams per centimeter. A long shaft is around 30 inches, 76 centimeters. A heavy arrow shaft would be in the 21-22 gram range. 800 grams will make some 36 arrows.

Dikfor

Please sir, can I have some more?

Monika Djomi

Honestly I feel her reaction was very far from a breakdown. The first time she broke down she locked herself in her room, next time she went into zombie mode and was training relentlessly for days, this time she felt sad, pissed and confused and went to work the next day.

D

Maybe his old job saved him from writers block, and now that he trys in earnest, he run face front into it. x)

DaShoe

.

DaShoe

Yeah Thursday-sunday release schedule :-P

Mr Ove

Soon the chapter will overtake her lvl lol

This was great, the crafting made me happy and the different ideas for the rock all made me giggle. I had a bit of an idea, the overcharge spell ability, would that work with the mana pathways forged into weapons? Like overcharging the pathways makes them more receptive to enchanting, or better able to hold the natural mana the materials are attuned to. The prospect makes me curious what skills could be used in ways outside of their original purpose, for greater effect.

Alteron

A nice enjoyable chapter. I am curious about what punishment she will get.

tibbish

I didn't say it made her predisposed to kill. Me pointing out she was isekai'd was to point out that she still has the memories of her previous self and is mentally developed far beyond her biological age. Mentally she is supposed to be in her mid 30's to early 40's not the teenager she appears to be. That won't make her sociopathic, or fine with killing, but you definitely learn a few things about life in that sort of time frame and your views as well as emotional maturity aren't going to be what they were before.

Nick

ShadeByTheSea has the right of it. All of her kills against humanoids have been over several years. Not regular breakdowns. Her first kill against the goblins was years ago as a child, then the goblin war was months ago before winter started. Now it's the end of winter and she's had to kill again. Years in the life of the MC where she has grown and developed as a character. Not to mention that 30 odd chapters for us which is a book or more of content for some stories. Also Tibbish, just because she was "isekaid" doesn't make her predisposed to kill. She was a normal person in her previous life, now she's a normal person again, at no point was a life of violence ever part of her character unless external circumstances forced it upon her. She went to war against monsters and killed to protect her friends and family: something justified in its intent and the outcome. Now she's had to fight human monsters and while it was still justified, for someone who hadn't had to even contemplate killing a single person before, suddenly killing a dozen or more people is very real issue for her conscience that she has to deal with.

tibbish

Yeah I don't expect her to enjoy killing or become a murderhobo I'd also expect her to start to change some and realize that she just defended herself is all. Heck the guys she killed were so evil they're nearly a caricature of Evil Men everywhere and we're going to do nothing but awful things to her and were quite clear about that. I don't expect her to be thrilled killing them but be broken up by it at this point? That doesn't fit well either

D

Honestly, im a bit anoyed by this chapter. Its just sooo... unimaginative to have her now her 3th breakdown in less then 30 chapters. At some point, youd just have enough of it. First with the goblins - oh i wanted them to die, im a monster. Second i let some run - i need to prepare better. Third, i killed a bunch of rapist, but they where still humans, right? Its not like she had a breakdown after killing swats of gobs and a horned gob, or many spiders, or bears. There are enough other ways to write character growth then having the protagonist have a mental breakdown, imho. About the crafting, i liked it. Also, what would happen if you mix the unnamed metal with the kakledings? Dont think air mana charpace would work well with earth mana metal, expect reducing the melting point. Pity she only bought mini samples from kevin or she could use her collection for experimentation. ^^

I would like to point out that AFAIK, titanium is generally considered (in terms of application) as "better aluminum" - with few advantages over steel other than weight (and perhaps non-reactivity after the oxidation layer sets, but please do not quote me on that). Unless it was drastically changed by magic, it would have very different characteristics to tungsten. Of course, being just an impure MAGICAL ore (and alloying, heat treatments, etc. after processing) changes a lot. Generally though, if the magic changes its main advantage (low weight for the strenght), there would definitely be too many other magic metals with better properties for that niche (placing it lower tier).

Looks like my hypothesis of the materials holds true for now. Now with more explanation on how mana interacts with each other I starting to form another hypothesis on that as well. The whole earth mana rejecting or keeping out fire mana has me thinking about energy levels. the fire mana would get enough energy to break into the earth mana structure making more plastic or something of the like. one the fire mana loses enough energy it gets rejected. This is still a working hypothesis and I'll need to read more on how the mana interacts with other mana like how fire and water or fire and wind combine to create certain effects. all we know is that wind and fire has some sort of enhancing effect for the fire mana but we don't know how that happens or what kind of effect happens to the wind mana. Is it used up? Is it transformed into fire mana? It's safe to say that earth mana doesn't really react to other mana under normal circumstances. and we know fire+wind has some effect. I'd like to see more on ice mana, water mana, lightning mana, light and dark mana, and how those interact with each other if some of them even exist.

ShadeByTheSea

I my experience most people hold stuff like that in until they snap, mainly because they're trying to hide it. As for what a crucible and forge are... they're easily looked up, but a crucible is basically a ceramic cup(could be metal too, but since her's didn't melt it's likely ceramic) that you place pieces of metal in to melt. Usually the metal melts and is denser than the impurities(rock, softer metal, etc) so they float to the top where you can remove them. A forge can be as simple as an open fire, but usually they're an enclosure with a bellows(or fan) pumping air into the fire. It's open so you can easily put material into and out of it when bring it to an anvil to hammer. Forges are not normally used to melt metal, but to heat it enough to hammer.(she only used it because it was supposed to be a small sample which heats and melts faster.) The smelter is basically a old fashioned furnace it's meant to put your crucible inside with a fire and enough air holes to fuel it but no easy access opening. Though you might open it to remove slag(impurities) usually that's done at the end after everything is melted.

Also, I fear nothing more than those stars you use to mark the end of the chapter. I don't want it to end!

Ungrave

Tbh my favorite parts of the series are the crafting chapters. They're what brought me here after all, and it's really cool to see these methods she uses. I think the forging system you've got is really cool. Thanks for the chapter!

Bonobo

Great chapter mate!

Justin

Enjoyed the banter and drama. Good chapter and I look forward to the finished arrow and reaction to it. I see edits to your chapters but what are you editing each time? It'd be great to see a note saying fixed highlighted comment corrections or no significant changes or something. Please and thank you!

Gray Gillespie

I think the chapter is great! I like how the pacing doesn’t cover mundane events and chapters and scenes portioned. I’m curious to see the If those ore/metals names we came up with a few chapters ago get more use.

Abdullah

I believe those notices come when he edits the older chapters or changes then

Chapter was a pretty good mix of forging and drama, Russell Todd pointed it out best so I can’t really contribute. That black rock is going to be very interesting. Hopefully Aaliyah remembered to get Gel to use his bloodthirst sura on her so Mental resistance can be levelled to withstand it.

Alex C

So odd thing, this is the only patreon that also notifies me of previous tiers updates as well. Is there a setting I'm missing to stop the old tier subscription notifications?

thkiw

"It's [defiantly] a tier 4 earth attuned material," -> "it's [definitely] a tier 4 earth attuned metal". it's technically correct, but defiant(unwilling;rebellious) sounds really weird used like that, and you most likely meant definite.

thkiw

great chapter!

KalAeon

Woo woot! That 'black rock' is some stubborn shit, huh? I wonder if this whole process of making the arrow will be enough to get her passed a few bottlenecks/thresholds/whatever-they're-called, or get a few new skills.

Cobbly

Always a treat, Kosnik4.

Stephen Pearson

I thought it was a great chapter, thanks very much! Also, congrats on crushing your $4000 goal and very nearly being to $5000!

Russell Todd

I think I need a refresher on what the forge and crucible are made of. Because the whole time I was wondering why the super ore was melting and not literally everything else around it. It might just be personal preference, but I'd like a little more buildup/foreshadowing for Aaliyah's mental state before the snap. We learn that she's a bit fatigued and grumpy, but it felt to me like she went 0-100 real quick. Maybe it's meant to be that way but it really threw me with how in control of herself she usually is. Still enjoyed the chapter, though

Andrew

Thank you!
