Thanks for the chapter brilliant as always

Anton Karlsson

Some thoughts. Why didnt she intimidate them when looking at their souls. Why didnt she continue running? To have her make such a leap such as killing another person, on such an seemingly random unrelated thing feels very wasteful. Something that shouldve been built up towards or been a bigger occasion or atleast have a bigger emotional impact.

carebear90

Yeah... that would have made sense for the first one? But the second? maybe the third could have hoped, she is tired allready, but why did they go all together anyways instead of a fourth who would have the same reasoning?

carebear90

I don't know about the others, but I didn't complain, that they are "too evil". I did complain about them being stupid and cartoonishly on the nose about it. I'd expect a group of bandits like them to have at least a bit of self preservation instincts. Of course they'd attack the messenger girl, even if their target was a merchant (cough* Kervin *cough*). And of course they'd have a little "fun with her", in the worst immaginable ways possible. Even the initial setup of the 1 v 1 made sense if you take into consideration, what information they had about her at this point... All this unnecessary threatening and boasting about their obvious plans with her for the future may even be explainable by some kind of sadistic glee. But that allready stretches my suspense of disbelieve quite a bit. Then she identifies all of their levels... and uses magic... and beheads on of their people in a single strike... And what is the reaction? Meh whatever, just wittle her stamina down... it's not like it'll be difficult at all to keep her under control once she recovers... why would we be wary just because she can use magic, which is rare or identify our levels at a glance which is even rarer. Just continue to treat her like an easy mark even after she demonstrated otherwise multiple times allready... and... oh yeah, just continue with these stupid taunts all the way through just to show how evil we are... It just makes the very real and sadly all to realistic threat of bandits who are also rapists and slavers seem so needlessly stupid. It just feels kind of forced to make an absolutely horrible situation to be in into a caricature. They behave like they're on drugs. Inhibitions and selfpreservation lowered all the way down. Not like calculating merciless thugs (or deserters), that could survive through their "craft" more than 3 encounters with anyone who could fight back even a little bit.

Richard Paull

@All, the whole 1v1 thing does make a twisted sort of sense from the bandit perspective. Just think about it, we have here a group of total scrum bags. The risk is that they die in the 1v1, the reward is that if they win (which lets be reasonable they are certain will happen) then they get "first taste" of a cute/beautiful girl. There may also be associated skills that might level more if they get that first taste too. There are skills for running / cooking, why not banditry or something similar?

thkiw

I don't know why people complain that the bandits are too evil. it seems reasonable to me. they might've been a group of deserters (which makes sense during war), they are horny and hungry and are used to killing. suddenly there's a carrier girl launching herself into a group of bloodthirsty wolves. that's how it is. it's weird that they went to attack her one by one though. maybe they started to not have enough supplies for everyone, though that still makes sense. as for the fight... that didn't make much sense tbh. there are many ways to spin it off. first, she has difficulties attacking and killing humans. and second according to you she had plenty enough stamina to use her skills properly. if you changed it so the stamina bar would've been at 200 instead of 600 it'd might've made some sense though. also explained why she hadn't run away.

Enif

Maybe make it more about self defense and last resorts than about how evil they were. Perhaps she is caught off guard by a skill they use and loses her weapon early and has to try talking them down. She tries to scare them with her magic but when they all go to jump her she fires off the empowered spell.

Enif

She's going to be traumatized after literally turning herself into an IED. That's not something you just brush off. Also I agree with others that you should probably try a different approach with this scene. The bandits feel like unrealistic caricature and their actions don't really make sense. At the very least try to make them a little less cringey.

Satya Prateek

I kinda agree with the others that the bandit scene felt forced and gratuitous. The line about using the blood as a lube is just fucked up. I think the idea was to make them so cartoonishly evil she would have had to kill them which is just poor writing imo.

thkiw

'I fought some bandits and killed them off with a new spell when it exploded on me.'

Alteron

How are Aaliyah going to spin this attack, and her almost death to her mother?

LapisLazuli

Yes it was a pity with Forge of destiny. When it comes to Magic Smithing I think, that it would be better without any romance at all, or if it's absolutely neccesarry to have romantic moments then it could go into gxg direction. Still at this moment it would be rally forced

Mac

Obviously we’re shipping her with the receptionist— she is a man, after all( and there’s never a good gxg story) thought Forge was gonna bring balance. But just maybe, this is the chosen one.

Joey McGowan

All caught up now. Need more

Joey McGowan

*sadness*

Enif

I'm not sure who she would be shipped with honestly. Both Reel and Kervin are far too old for her. and the receptionist is too unknown to consider at this point.

Mr Ove

surprised I am not see any shipping going on in the comments lol

MadGod

Her physical stats aren't that much higher than a level 40-ish because of her stat spread, she was on half stamina and carrying a heavy load. She would have gotten a head start on them had she kept running, but they would have caught up after her stamina had run out and at that point, she couldn't have put up any resistance anymore. I really don't get what's so difficult to understand about this.

MadGod

Feeling an intimidation skill used on you out of nowhere is very different from a small, tired, and greatly outnumbered opponent trying to intimidate you.

John Emad

Thanks for the chapter

Nick

Thanks for the chapter. I'm not sold on why she stopped at the bandits. Needs a more compelling reason for why she didn't just continue running. Maybe they had traps or nets etc around the clearing to block off the exits? Or maybe a distraction ploy with a broken cart to take her focus off the road just long enough to get the drop on her? The empowered spell to kill the bandits was okay, I would have liked to have seen a little bit more evidence of her swordsmanship training in fighting with the bandits before she realises that she needs magic to finish them off as a group.

Gremlin Jack

Certainly that makes sense. I don't think its part of any of their job descriptions to intimidate visitors... unless of course they received orders to do just that. Grey was told to test her diplomatically while the secretaries were told to try and creep her out, I can see that happening.

Enif

No but the next chapter released will be in the $5 tier.

Dikfor

So if I subscribe at $5, can I read more now?

Alteron

Could the head receptionists strange behavior be failed social skills checks? Failed because of Aaliyah's mental resistance .

Jason

I enjoyed the chapter myself, similar to the others. My only complaint was lack of reaction to the use of the sense soul skill itself. In past chapters the people exposed to the chapter got really nervous like someone was watching them. Not to be confused with the complete fear that happens when scanning deep with the skill. The bandits only reacted after she called out their levels.

ShadeByTheSea

I agree with some others, I like the chapter but her running down her stamina doesn't make sense. Even if she's not worried about bandits, she'd still want to have stamina for random goblins or other monster.

Steven Palmer

LOVED IT. DONT WANT TO STOP READING!!! I know the bandits were hired to be there so super awesome!

The other DB

Great chapter, I'm a bit late to the comments party but here's my take. The bandits were a bit cliche but there's only so many ways that you can write them and still have Aaliyah come out okay-ish. I think that Aaliyah's reaction to the situation was in-character for her, curious -> realization -> bluffing -> desperation. She was in a stressful situation and didn't have time to think things out and acted accordingly, If you consider people who's job puts them in stressful or dangerous situations they practice their job until it's second nature and they don't have to think. Although, if you want to give Aaliyah a reason for not running you could give 1 or 2 of the bandits long bows. What I found strange is that Gray or Kervin didn't try to force Aaliyah to take Reel go along with her or at the very least prep her about what could go wrong or what to look out for to keep her safe. They know about the increased bandits in the area so they should be extra cautious.

The other DB

It depends on how closely she looks, with Reel she looked much deeper and that's what put him on edge. She learned how to gain level info without looking as close by practicing on the villagers who only reported the feeling of someone looking at them.

closeded

I liked the chapter, but why didn't the bandits get scared when she checked their levels? Reel almost attacked her for it; I thought the soul sense/level check fear effect was a big deal.

tibbish

My WAG is the receptionist but could be one of the body guards that Kervin normally rolls with. Completely a guess based on how nosy she was + how much she was worrying the MC. Aaliyah has good instincts. Reel is a dick but seems loyal and the SH branch leader and his bodyguard seem like tough but legit businessman who are at least loyal to the organization. They also have too much to lose if found out and little to gain from seeing her get robbed, raped, and disappeared.

Demalos

I really enjoy this story and will be getting the tier change for sure.

Solarlancer

i Fully Agree with Justin here

Seth

Honestly I thought it was a well written chapter, however, the caution that she uses to the point that she’s basically empty on stamina while still running is weird, we go from extremely cautious around the merchants to not even thinking anything could happen on the run; and I get that Aaliyah isn’t experienced in this part so bandits probably weren’t thought about, but to almost completely leave herself defenseless feels like a stretch. Other than that I really liked the chapter.

Justin

Good chapter! I've really been enjoying your writing so far. From skimming the comments I think people have a valid point about the bandits 1v1 matches being unrealistic, not running past them odd at 1/2 stamina, and stamina drained so quickly. My hindsight thoughts, lol :), on solving all 3 problems at the same time would be to have her try to run, have a few speedy bandits slow her down for 1v1, and a final stand when she runs out of stamina from fleeing and fighting and the rest catch up. Anyway keep up the good work. I'll likely join the $5 tier as this has been a great journey so far.

D

Her mother is a merchant daughter, but she never told what kind of merchants they are. They had to be quite rich, if they had just some general store, they woudnt have minded that much if she married darius, so we can suspect that they are part / leader of one of the big merchant families. Also i totaly disagree with you at some point. This isnt just some iseki story where the mc walks out into the world to bully some poor demon lord. Family was a very big factor for this story from the beginning, and i like how the story has gone for now, so changing it to some power fantasy would be totaly wrong.

RhyxMormarteno

Liked that kaboom option from Reels side and how they got to think about explaining themshelfs p.s. Im staying on my current tier and dont mind you making those tier upgrades.

Zarik0

Well good chapter, just plz plz dont go the road the momma is a badass assasin or a important people (with connection or not) going living out in a rural village for dodge plot fuck, its bad (too much clich and used plot all time already) For your character mc who going to soar and move in different place for explore/build, her family is a restraint annoying at a moment she need to let them out aniway (you need to "forget" about them in the story at some point aniway, they become irrelevant and annoying and you cant plz let them stay with retard and illogical plot like they superman or royal in the sneaking in this rural village), so stop trying to developpe them like this and cluch them with the mc with anoying and illogical plot they pretty irrelevant of the mc when she begin to soar, a good option it to get them killed so you eliminate the anoying fly in your storie and you can developpe your mc character

Cerber

Regarding the 1vs1 scene. Maybe she didnt know how far they would be able to track her? We could always compare her stamina with a battery in a vehicle. The motor works best over 50/60% charge and worse beneath it. Anyway, her stopping up wasnt a really bad move and it gave her the development that she needed for her new world adaption

Stephen Weinberg

+1 to this. She was much more limited physically than makes sense.

D

Uhm, just remembered by re-reading, her stamina is around 1.4k - so 600 is around half. She run the whole day, so why would 600 be not even enough to fight for a bit? Its enough for smithing the whole day, running the whole day, but doing a single flash step suddenly is something like 100+ stamina per use. Somehow that dosnt realy add up. Would have made more sense if the stamina was down to 2 or 300, instead of 600 because it would be around the 20% that makes trouble when mana is to low.

Scyfe

Thanks for the chapter, the new payment scheme is acceptable to me and I moved up to $5, I think there's a fair amount of value given the quality of this story so far. About the chapter itself, I rather enjoyed the Reel viewpoints, I enjoy him as a character and his viewpoints are among my favourite parts of this story. As has been said before the bandits and the encounter come off a bit forced (why she couldn't just avoid or outrun them, let's line up 1 by 1 to fight like some type of bad isekai gladiatorial fight arena). I don't mind them being vulgar/uncouth as even though I do not like reading about that sort of thing it is how bandits generally behaved, and this doesn't seem like the type of story where you're going to go down the parade of suffering route - if they had won and mistreated Aaliyah I wouldn't have looked on the chapter nearly as fondly. I can understand why this encounter is important though as Aaliyah has to start getting into the mindset where she's going to have conflicts with humans and may have to kill them whether she wants to or not. I don't understand the whole receptionist thing, she is just coming off as creepy and jeopardizing their relationship for no real reason? She is clearly high ranked enough to at a minimum know about Aaliyah given her comments, there's a good chance she is that 3 that has been mentioned, and yet she is only antagonizing the MC who can walk away from this deal / future deals and leave silver herd hurting a lot worse than her. I don't know why they'd want to try to poke holes in the relationship/make her uncomfortable?

Sebastian Osterbrink

The deep scan terrifies the target but it also sometimes knocks her out. Depending on what the "Eyes" do.

Alteron

I am guessing that the receptionist is not in the need to know, she could be trying to shake information loose.

Alteron

“Look what we have here, boys! It might not be the merchant we heard about, but a beautiful girl is always a bonus!" So it seems they where waiting for Kervin, so who told them?

Hoshi Boshi

Thanks for the chapter~! I sort of expected her to use the deep scan to cause the leader to flee, which probably would have caused the rest of them to scatter. Also, an error I noticed " I hope you come back to say high to me again soon!", "high" -> "hi"

carebear90

Well... I didin't really like the bandit group "characterization"-wise. I sincerely hope, that they were drunk or on other drugs. Otherwise their behavior is just too cartoonish to swallow for me. ^^ Absolutely no sense of self preservation. I mean... they saw her use magic. I thought that is supposed to be rare amongst humans? At least in these parts? They must have felt even a little bit of her soul sense, and if not that, her knowing all their levels must have rang at least a few alarms. Then they send not one but 3 of their only 11 people to die without care. I dont think, they'd survive more than 2 robberies at this ratio. Of course it is winter and all, but if they were desperate, they would just rush her in a bigger group and would not make this makabre lottery out of it. They didn't even keep a lookout. (Would also have been something to do for Reel, other than watching, besides being common sense.) And they still treat her like a defenseless little girl just because she is temporarily out of stamina. Their "plan" to keep her even for a little while to "enjoy" her or even long enough to sell her into slavery ... somewhere?... is just ridiciulous. All in all a very suicidal bunch of bandits. Not the worst I've seen, but that is sadly not difficult nowadays. It's a very very low bar. ^^ Anyhow... What is that receptionist thinking she is doing? Is she supposed to alienate her mark like that? Is that somehow beneficial for her agenda? Or is she plotting something else? I at least don't see how she'd be able to get anything out of Aaliyah like that, like Giovanni seems to expect of her. And the bandits were after Kervin as it seems. They were waiting for a merchant they were "told about". So... who sent them? Maybe a rival weapons trader from Teeburn? I can't really think of anyone else who'd have a motive at this point in time.

carebear90

I don't think, she was in the right state of mind there to calmly go over formulating a spell in english that had enough parameters included to not potentially backfire horribly. ^^

Chemnerd263

This was a very good chapter, lots of information here if we look closely. I particularly liked the way she used sense soul to gage all of their levels so quickly, thougb considering you have mentiined how unsettling and downright terrifying even the StoneKin find the feeling of that skill, the bandits should really have been more fearful of her from the start. Maybe you didn't have her do a deep enough soul gaze? Either way, stressful situations cause lack of clarity in thinking, but I can think of a few ways she could have done the bandit fight better if she was in a clear state of mind. Hopefully future fights wont have her hesitate so much.

Noah

I think there were no bodies.

DayWalker

Thanks for the chapter... Great one

Håkan Friberg

This chapter had the right amount of action to round of her arc to the city. Most part of that was conversation-based action, nothing wrong with that, and needed this kind of firework at the end!

Osprey36

I was just thinking the other day that if she ever wants to explain her theory behind the size of people's souls she could use a pitcher of water and several cups. A cup in this instance would represent a normal person, and pouring water into it represents their skills and experience. The cup can only be filled up so much before it won't hold anymore water, hence the presence of a bottleneck or soft level cap. Aaliyah can then just point to the pitcher and say "this is my cup" or something like that and watch as everyone's eyes just bug out for a bit. Which would then explain to people how everything comes so easily. Maybe just explaining it to her family? I thought it was an apt explanation for the layman around her.

Melnik5

Great chapter

Garend

Well yes, because that's bandits did. They robbed you and raped you, and that's why even in the modern day bandits remain in the public thought, because that's how deep the scars they left behind are.

Tera

Uiii already a new chapter! There are a bit more typos than usually 😝

Tera

Red-orange Hair Slim, u see she works out Not as beautifull as her mother but she is happy with her looks. I think the author left the rest to imagination on purpose 😉

Abdullah

Yes I fully agree and before people day she isnt a teen due to rebirth they must remember that her first life she never cleared her her teen years and this life she is still there, A lot of emotional growth comes from the way others treat you and life experiences and she has never reached the stage that comes afterwards yet

Haran

Thanks for the chapter. She is making many mistakes, mostly due to arrogance and ignorance, like how she doesn’t just speed up and run past the bandits instead of confronting them, or how she shows off her skills or doesn’t ask her mother for more help dealing with merchants. It’s a very “teenager” mindset. She’s clearly fallible, but that’s also what make her a good character.

Robert Mullins

They don't actually know anything about her level. All they know for sure is she has a way to tell other people's level. Anything else she said could be lies, especially when she was shown to be rather inexperienced.

11037

The bandits were a bit unrealistically happy to fight to the death against a higher level opponent, but overall it was a great chapter.

Rallaster

That... Was an amazing chapter.

tibbish

Yep, in for $5 myself. If the author is able to keep up their current pace then it'll easily be worth it.

Derrick McDowell

Liked the chapter. Does this mean there is a 13th chapter right now? Do we need to pay 2 more this month for the next tier or 5 to start getting the benefits?

tibbish

I dunno she seems to get the lion's share of her XP from just crafting + exercising her skills in new ways. I'm sure she'll get a decent bit of XP but not enough to shoot her up a bunch of levels.

thkiw

Good chapter!

Kristaps Kramins

I am not a huge fan of the bandit characters. They were just a generic grape gang. Although I did like the use of the skill that can tell how much money you are carrying.

D

Loved the chapter. Dont quite remember what aliyah looks like, but if they say she is beatuy, then she probably is. ^^ Only remember her to be around 1.80-1.85, but hair color and other stuff? Not so much. x)) Happy to have a new chapter after 3 days already. The last weeks where wearing on my patience, craving for more chapters. ;-)

Pltergeist

great chapter

Mark Bird

Thanks for the fast writing love the chapter and I for 1 have no problem with $5 for all the chapters I also dont mind swearing, especially when it is apropriate for the story.

Andrew

Thank you!

Giperman

Oh, and here I thought she'll use that extracted fire mana from her sword to do some cool shit

Robert Mullins

Especially since she had nearly half her stamina remaining after running for hours.

Robert Mullins

Seems rather cliche that they would just happen to be willing to work her down slowly rather than taking her down all at once. Also, she is apparently fast enough to nearly outrun Reel at level 72 but not random bandits in the late 30s?

Miritar

Thank you for the hard work. Loved the chapter. The explosion felt a little bit flat. It was not an event directly witnessed so I can understand why it was like that. But it just felt a bit anticlimatic. And what about her verbal casting? Or did she swear off that without first testing ?

Alteron

Thanks for another amazing chapter.

Andrew

Thank you!

Jonathan Seah

Reel should check the bodies and finish them off at least.

Ungrave

As for earlier in the chapter, I do hope she screws with the contract a bit to see how it's connected to Grey's soul, since there's clearly some sort of connection based on Kervin's reaction when she burned it up. Maybe she can practice soul sense that way? First she does need to make those arrows though.

Ungrave

Kinda sad for her having to kill people finally. Hopefully she doesn't have to deal with too much PTSD since she's pretty used to this kind of trauma by this point, along with the mental resistance skill.

Ikawaii

say high -> say hi

Milandaanza

5$ seems reasonable. Her insane self boom is great. It’s so absolutely Aaliyah. I did roll my eyes a bit at the sexual assault threats but that’s pretty much the isekai trope now isn’t it? On the flip side I can’t wait to see the exp gain. I imagine a dozen 40~ level enemies should shoot her up a fair bit

Jackson Ragland

10/10

Tim Maguire

Thanks for the chapter!
