Shadowsmage

brilliant Thanks for the chapter

1Crash

Sometimes its motivating to get what you want to do out of the way first. Then when you are done with that just write. Even if it's just making an outline of the chapter. Once you get started its easier to keep going.

Atli

Thank you for your work, keep it up

Ninetails

With how late it is compared to when he usually posts, I guess the next one will not be here before tomorrow.

DNAjester

this! also now it has been 5 days so excited for the next chapter

Stephen Pearson

If the writer is based out of the US, leaving their job would be a risky maneuver, considering that health coverage is tied to employment.

Toni Pampliega

If motivation is the case, I should remember that you wanted to be writter full time with a salary of 4k. Seen the amount now with the patreons, you are very close. And I think there are 10 chapters difference between the public and patreon. Maybe, next mounth, you should activate the 5 dollars tier. I don't mind paying 2 extra at mounth. If your aim is full dedication at writting, you should think about it. Then 2 chapters a week of +5-6K words will be more than enought for the moment. What do you think?

Alteron

A lot of people have asked for more information about this world, and the last chapter contained a lot of world building.

Estrini

maybe i am just too picky but i feel like the last two chapters could be reduced down to a couple of paragraphs and nothing important would be lost.

Dikfor

Eh, that dude kinda irks me. I appreciate that he finished the Wheel of Time series for Robert Jordan, but I didn't enjoy his hard on for Perrin or his crap depiction of Matrim. Used to reread that series every year, but haven't been able to since his book.

Sebastian Osterbrink

One comment on the size of the streets: it is said here that a street is narrow because it's only three carts wide. Thinking of old european towns, a street which is that wide would often be the main street. Normal streets often only allowed one cart. Any town with a city wall usually has very narrow streets because space inside the wall is at a premium. But I can understand her American and village mindset where that seems small.

tibbish

MDW over at royalroad is also fairly prolific. His writing ethic seems more lackadaisical though.

Stylemys

Maybe the trial for Charm will be more interesting.

carebear90

Wasn't it "wash my pits please" or something? "ahyt ls weem appiss"

ActionKermit

I keep feeling like that incantation "ayht is weem appiss" should be an anagram for "I sweep misty [something]" but I can't quite make it work. :-/

ActionKermit

Pirateaba is the most prolific author I know of, with a word count in the millions. She says momentum is important - writing more makes it easier to write more.

Randall C

not an author; however, a few you might want to talk to are: https://www.patreon.com/ThePowerofTen and https://www.patreon.com/RhaegarRRL . Both have been vary consistent for many years. Another one I read offers various tips/discussions on their blog that might be of interest: https://www.ilona-andrews.com/category/writing/articles/

Mutabulis

Was looking at that level 50 cleaning for so many chapters now and wondering how she was going to break through... Feel a little cheated that she used magic for it, but glad she finally got it.

Ungrave

I liked the cleaning. Thanks for the chapter!

tibbish

Yes. She did her teeth that way (and almost ruined them) and the spiders were killed by using a different spell in english. Each time its a risk though so she doesn't like doing it

Josh Turple

Has she tried making a spell in English before?

Josh Turple

Yes but he writes a lot more.

tibbish

Setting up a routine will help lots...eventually. At 1st its gonna feel like its doing no good but if you maintain it for 2-3wk you'll start to see the benefit of it. Like any lifestyle change its weird but this will definitely benefit you. Thanks for keeping your releases as consistent as they've been too.

Andrew

Thank you!

Thundermike00

Don’t set a writing schedule if this isn’t your job. it would only make you burn out faster. Just write whenever you want and release whenever you want at least once a week you know with high amount of pages per chapter too. That would be awesome.

Seb

I know Brandon Sanderson has a bunch of seminars online. Might be worth looking into those for tips on writing productivity and what not

tibbish

I think her expectation was that the mages would use their personal power + money + political influence to get out of any possible punishment and it seemed at first that they were getting punished like any other criminial...which turned out to be wrong of course but not for reasons she may have expected. At least that is my read on the situation

Enif

I feel like her saying "mages can be criminals?" unbelievably naive. There are criminals at all levels of society and Aliyah should have known better. If you just wanted to explain why mages were doing menial labor(and are not criminals) you could find a better way to introduce it. Instead of having her shout it out just have her ask "What about those mages?" At which point the discussion continues as written.

Kristaps Kramins

Me too. Especially since her knowlage and maturity do not match, in a world where knowlage is hoarded and guarded

Kristaps Kramins

Please, sir! Can I have some more?

carebear90

I agree. Spring is a few months off. She just learned, that the city gets attacked by monsters once every...few(?) years. The last attack was 4 years back and her brother and sister in law live near a wall. On top of that, they just were attacked on the road. Admittadly, the goblins were not much of a threat for her, but it's not like there is no risk in traveling at all. I mean... just a short stop to say hello shouldn't be to much on her schedule?

Elmhedera

Stuff in {xx} is what should be removed: ...and [thou >> though] there's some animal waste on... I turn back and look at the massive [wall >> gate] we went through. (Changed because of context > went through) OR: I turn back and look at the massive wall we [went through >> left behind us]. "[There >> They're] a fire-based magical creature. “That is if [we] don’t factor in the war,” ...has the coin to pay [of >> off] whatever fine... ...if they try to leave the city [,] depending on their crimes. ...shoveling snow and [scoping >> scooping] up the waste... ...which they delegate to their [unpaid >> indebted] students. ...believe their [unpaid >> indebted] students are only... ...in a [hose >> house] close to the wall. ...stable meant [two >> to] hold his two bivol. Isn't [she >> it] beautiful?" Kervin raises his hands, showing off the grandeur of his two-story town-house. (Unless that was intentional and Kervin's just more of a nutjob than I thought) "It's pretty nice," I [off-handily >> off-handedly] remark. Maybe if his house [were >> was] hovering or made out of... ...walk into the kitchen, holding [Kervin >> Kervin's] and their supplies... ...my shoes have left dust [Imprints >> imprints] on the floor. “What do you have [their >> there], Aaliyah?” ...a small circle around my feet has {been} replaced the dust with the black specks of dirt my spell leaves behind. ...I move all the [closes >> clothes] back onto the floor... ...I enter a light [M]editation while folding... “Already[, >>?]” I ask in astonishment. ...to shift for certain [commodity’s >> commodities] and resell them for a profit. ...worked if he kept his route [,] but now that he's only selling to the army... ...plates he has [staked >> stacked] in his kitchen. “A what?” Kervin [looks at >> gives] me {with} a confused look. (Repetition of 'look') ...to prices cheaper than they could find [in] a store. Kervin [will >> would] be able to open a [convince >> convenience] store with everything he has in his house. Now that I think about it, I haven't seen any general  [good >> goods] stores.

tibbish

Yup. Who needs a new skill when you can just pump a old one up with power until it works? Moar powa ftw is a 21st century Earth concept after all right??

Jacob

Make sure to plan in a break at some point, Pirateaba takes a week off every month for example

Chemnerd263

I liked this, the addition of Empowered spell might make or break alot of future encounters, though the fact most of her spells are freeform will probably limit it's usefulness...

Rui Lourenço

Writing Productivity tips: There are no tips. You've reached the middle of the story and those are kinda hard to write. All my actual tips don't really work for serial writing, like skipping ahead and just writing an exciting scene you want to write, which would excite you about writing the set up for that scene.

Scyfe

Thanks for the chapter, It's not uncommon for professional Author's to stick to a schedule, while you don't want to burn out you also don't want to fall into the hiatus trap where you somewhat lose the will to go back to the book. For example Stephen King is quoted as trying to force himself to write daily 2000 words before allowing himself to quit or do other things in the day. I'd think the most important thing would be to try to find something that works for you and is somewhat consistent, if you google search author writing schedules there are plenty of interviews with famous author's discussing how they stay focused, although one of the most reoccuring themes is consistency.

paksheet

It doesn't cost him anything to do it, and he doesn't have to sell if it's below his bottom line. What's there to lose? Renting a place and hiring someone sounds more expensive than doing something free. Which is just perfect when you just want to get rid of some junk, since he's already moving on to better and more profitable things. Sometimes you just want to get rid of stuff quickly to make space even at a slight loss.

ActionKermit

Kervin should check to see if he needs a permit to sell goods outside of a designated marketplace.

Stephen Pearson

Heh, I shouldn't have checked when I was already going to bed late:-p Thanks for the chapter, really enjoyed it!

Obran

Yard Sale. This is the solution a merchant would think is a good idea? Does he want aquire a coffee can full of quarters? Maybe a couple of swaps? Seriously, at the very minimum rent a storefront and hire someone to sell his crap. Sell it at the front lines to the remaining civilians. Deliver an extra big shipment of materials to aalyah and then make a few stops on the “scenic route“ back.

Vyktor

As always, happy to read the chapter, but I finish it far to fast 😭

Sebastian Osterbrink

Some things she re-remembered while memory diving in her soul skill. All other memories are pretty faded by time. Her memory is pretty average.

Swinter

Honestly, this chapter is painful to read. Aliyah comes across as painfully stupid/naive in a way I can't believe someone who's lived in the modern world does. Granted, since 20 years has passed and she's now lived in the new world longer than she ever did in the old one, I can see why she'd no longer have a perfect memory of it. On the other hand, she could recollect advanced archery items and recreate them, so clearly she has excellent memory. I mean, "“So, talent means nothing?” I ask in disbelief. " Seriously? That's the question of a child even in the modern world.

Tera

Try to find out what kind of schedule is working for you 😜 You're always saying that a chapter is too late, don't think this way, the chapter is posted when you feel it is time. As far as I remember you only said something about 5 days, never on the point. And it's been 5 days since Saturday 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️( and you're reworking past chapters too...., The chapters are long... And so on) Well what I wanted to say: thank you for the chapter!!!! 😍 It's always a good day, when I see a new chapter here ☺️

Cyryl Chołodowski

What you thought to do, is pretty much what a somewhat accomplished author I know does (or maybe really accomplished? Fuck, I don't remember, he's an older guy and a friend of the family). So, what he does... Every day, after breakfast he sits down to write for about 3 hours. In those 3 hours he can't do anything else. Sometimes he will just spend 3 hours in front of an empty page, other times he will fill up a few pages and keep going for the rest of the day.

Cerber

I doubt it would end as a mere hi and some reunions are worth the wait.

Nick

Great chapter. Kervin being a hoarder is a laugh. Take it easy with the writing. While I admit I'm chomping at bit to read the next chapter, the last thing I want is for you to get bored or frustrated with writing the book. Best of luck with the next couple chapters.

GuyWhoReadsALot

I find it beyond believability that she wouldn't want to see her brother. "Oh, I'll see him months from now, why bother walking 10 minutes to see him now?" Sorry, but no, that's ridiculous. She'd go see him.

Alteron

Great chapter, love how she cleans her room

Re1ncarnated Salamander

Cleaning 🤡🤡

Milandaanza

Yay updates! I adore the fact she had to deal with a hoarders house to tier up her cleaning too! I do wonder how the silver herd will handle her relatively young age. I haven’t noticed anyone emphasizing to them she’s barely of age, just skilled and dangerous.
