James Everhart

How or why is Kevin contact skill so low for a merchant, I know he is young, but he has other merchant skills that I'm assuming are higher tier( since MC doesn't have them and they're merchant focus skills) and at a higher level. Is it because he bottom rung merchant or just doesn't make many contracts with others. Not really important to the story just an observation.

Mars One

From the background it appears Kervin is a small time merchant. 1st generation in his family. This makes it understandable that a noble, commander, and possibly one of the top leveled people in the kingdom easily influences him and causes him to make mistakes leading to Aaliyah discovery. However remembering from Chapter 41 Kervin made a binding contract with Aaliyah " I’ll gladly accept your deal as long as you promise as a friend, you’ll sell all your extra goods to me in the future. In exchange, I’ll help keep your magic skills a secret from prying eyes." Now this contract has not been breached per-say but it will be interesting to see if skills are affected by what a person "knows" or by what actually "is." Would this be a breach of contract if Kervin's inexperience leads to Aaliyah magic being discovered? (Note I have not read past chapter 44 at this time).

reji

I have mixed feelings about it. I think merchant should understand about NOT mention name inside letter. I can understand he can make dumb mistake because of stress, but using names.... Nope

Elmhedera

There is a corrections post by Kosnik at the top, think they might see you there better

Mi

This is real quality, best chapter yet.

fbt

Oh forgot my edit notes...disregard freely! :) -...his colossal gaze (colossal is size, not weight..i suspect you wanted some analog to heavy) -...I comely tell him (comely means cute (not cutely!), attractive or hot. So this reads as I cute tell him, basically.) -...three distinct sones from under her jacket (prolly meant stones?)

fbt

honestly, as much as I hate alt POVs (for, I think, good reasons) this was well done. The writing actually seemed quite a bit better than usual..but maybe it just worked well for me, idk. GJ!

Garend

Because you increased the amount of weapons sold, the reference to 'thirty spears' doesn't make sense.

Max Scherer

I liked the general at first, but i hope they dont force the MC. She still has to look out for the spiders.

Julkur

I agree to your opinion about the weasel, but her weapons have this worth, that doesn't mean he got that price. He even said himself that he sold them too cheap.

Garend

On rereading, I just noticed... one of her spears is worth over a gold. She's selling them for 2 silver. That merchant weasel piece of shit...

Todd Kloos

Kervin has been screwing Aaliyah worse than he go screwed in this chapter. It would be good if something bad happens to him, he deserves it.

Carl Mason

A Vorpal blade, quenched in goblin blood and enchanted with Sword Skills and/or Sword Arts!

Todd Kloos

From what we have seen of other people's statuses, it seems that Aaliyah's skill growth is very abnormal. She has far more skills, higher tier skills, and higher level skill than most other people. Most people at Aaliyah's level are probably getting experience mainly from doing things(killing monsters, forging items, doing trades, etc) rather than from training skills. Aaliyah's magic blacksmithing skill also makes the items she forges much better than items from blacksmiths with similar mundane blacksmithing skill levels, so she probably gets more forging experience than other blacksmiths. If most blacksmiths are getting very little skill experience and only getting a fraction of her forging experience, then it wouldn't be surprising if high level blacksmiths are rare.

Dain Charbonneau

Loved reading this chapter. Looking forward to when Emily Pitz meets Aaliyah, her reaction once she learns how young Aaliyah is and how much more improved her work is from the current spears.

darrel morris

you got your math wrong, it is over 4m projectiles 2(1), 4(2), 8(3), 16(4), 32(5), 64(6), 128(7), 256(8), 512(9), 1024(10), 2048(11), 4096(12), 8192(13), 16384(14), 32768(15), 65536(16), 131172(17), 262344(18), 524688(19), 1049376(20), 2098753(21), 4197506(22),

Carl Mason

Ma'am.

FutureForest

Could you create a map of the areas that we have heard of so far?, Also loved the chapter I think it is your best yet.

Giperman

Loved this chapter a lot! Great work! Liked new fresh look with two people's POVs.

Dikfor

I hear that! I dropped a story because the author was milking it hardcore. Milking it like an early 80s sitcom that introduces a little redheaded kid to entice interest. Luckily, I found this one on royal road and switched over asap.

MadGod

I'd like to say how much I appreciate that you're actually increasing chapter size with time instead of decreasing them or splitting into many smaller ones like many other authors do in order to milk more money from their readers. Case in point, so many authors with otherwise decent stories but overly greedy attitudes earn less dollars per month than you have patrons. ++rep for caring about quality

Barrett Hess

Loved it!

ZCochraine!%

And of course, using those soul flams in crafting.

Alteron

Because of all the hints about level six skills, I’m guessing that at some point she will get one. The coolest thing I can imagine would be understanding of the celestial language.

DNAjester

Soul forging!! Think of it a weapon with a personality. That's like epic fantasy trope classics 101 Would she need to sacrifice attribute points or could she steal them from goblins +8 sword of strength

Stephen Pearson

That's an excellent question:-) I have felt that the author is very carefully not mentioning her even considering that possibility, so probably yes:-p

Chris

Quiet enjoyed this chapter.

Hunendora

A question I have about her soul sight skill, can she use it on others? See other's status? Break contracts on others?

Swinter

I think her soul skill is seriously powerful when it comes to effects like this, and will likely help her resist such attempts with a stubborn ease. Or at least that's what it'll look like from the Generals side of things.

tibbish

My completely WAG is she needs to level them up more if she is going to resist royal skill class influence. Just look at the influence a mere village leader can exert over others with his skills and the guy wasn't even that high leveled I think.

Kevin Caffrey

I could see her cutting a deal. Send some soldiers to protect the village from spiders and get me enchanting lessons and I’ll come smith for you.

John Curtis

I am more thinking of Aaliyah's reaction when the General pops up demanding her to leave her village. The question will be at least for me will Aaliyah be strong enough to not bend to the General's will. I also think it would be funny as hell if she finds out about how the General is acting and refuses to deal with her or her army. Be a bitch to a friend or business partner and see where that gets you.

Alteron

I hope her Mental Resistance will help her reach a good deal, training in magic and enchanting, without too much loss of liberty.

Hunendora

Not that she needs the excuse, but if the good General happens to learn a particular village requested soldiers to help in dealing with encroaching spiders... The village will likely be wondering why they got a General instead.

Håvard

That was the whole point of the note to the trading company. Dick move yes, but with that message he can't avoid doing what she wants. And what she wants is more weapons for the war so the merchants might get in trouble for blocking her. Espesialey if they lose the fort, but she survives. If she is killed it might be even worse. The benefits of power people have to do what you want. . Considering how she treated the postal worker the fact that he fell to the floor begging for forgiveness while funny for her also lost her respect for him. It looks like she like people to have some backbone, somewhat forgetting that with her power that is very hard.

John Koor

I don't really follow the logic in the general not paying the merchant the price difference between what he'd previously been paid and the true value. It should have been a simple thing for her to hand him a bit of extra gold, placating him, and then requesting arrows and having the bird intercepted like she did. In that case she'd have had a blissfully ignorant merchant content with his sale and likely to return with more goods. If she'd been wrong about him sending a bird, she would have just scared him off and possibly never found out where the weapons were crafted. It's just way too much of a poorly thought out dick move for a highly skilled general.

Nicholas Pankratz

I'm in love with this. Aaliyah's life is getting so hectic. Poor girl. But she this will allow her to expand her horizons past just the confines of her village. I love the Aaliyah chapters, but these ones that talk about the outside world really help round out the story and make the world a more believable place

tibbish

She needs a better middleman and/or a scheme to let her sell her stuff anonymously and let others take credit for her work while getting funneled a bigger portion of the cut. At least until she gets fairly powerful and wealthy than she can do almost anything so long as she doesn't piss off the feudal lords.

ShadeByTheSea

He didn't tell anyone, they found out by themselves. The only info he let slip was she lived in a village. idk how telling the merchant guild will go, but as far as this chapter is concerned he didn't break anything.

ShadeByTheSea

well considering she can't leave the fort till around the same time troops arrive at the village to kill the spiders show up, it should stay slice of life till at least than, mostly.

Dikfor

Please sir, can I have some more?

carebear90

Shouldn't this count as breaking his contract with Aaliyah? I don't remember the exact wording, but wasn''t he supposed to NOT tell anyone about her in exchange for him getting exclusive sales?

D

Possible that emily might become an ally in that regards if aliyah is able to make her those special arrows who cost a pretty penny, are only available in short supply and come from the stone kin.

RhyxMormarteno

Hmmm its possible that mobs moved or ran away from that army shifting entire ecosystem or something grimer like large predator overpopulation is pushing lower chain and pulling agro to vilige

ActionKermit

Does anyone else wonder if the beast migration in Aaliyah's forest is happening because a column of soldiers from the enemy kingdom is trying to steal a march on the General's forces?

ClapTrapCL4TP

I hope that the level of slice of life to serious stays the same

Drew Kerstens

I hate you because I do NOT want to wait for the next chapter or how this will all play out! Will our poor blacksmith be able to stay neutral and keep to her village after all this?? Can they force her to leave her village?? This is going to drive me insane

Steven Palmer

That was fun!!!

Docnox

Great chapter! I’m glad you didn’t sweat the perspective breaks, making it clear like that is super important.

D

Oh i like this chapter. Looks like she cant avoid the attention even if she holes up in her village. If Aliyah dosnt come to the world, the world comes to aliyah. x))

Nope, author is right. Do you count 2 to the 22nd power? But initially there was only one arrow, not 2, so 2^21.

Zerith

don't know if someone else pointed this out yet... but if the arrow(s) divided 22 times Pitz shot 4,194,304 arrows at them, not 2,097,152 times. I get hung up on pointless details...

lenkite

Neither Aliyah nor Kervin knew that her [Basic Spear] could be easily [Enchanted]. Aliyah can earn more 💰 now, hurrah!

lenkite

She is both a [Noblewoman] and a high-level warrior. He is a [Commoner Merchant]. She is also the [Commander] who has full military jurisprudence over the fort and the town. Including power of execution. You bet *any* merchant in that situation would be kow-towing.

Joseph

Not my favorite chapter. The way he jump to for her after being screwed over was jarring. Also the way he didn't see the post reporting on him coming was rather cringeworthy and difficult to believe.

Nobody

So it turns out Kervin was double screwing over Aliyah by accident, though it looks like from this point they'll both make a fortune assuming Kervin isn't fired or killed by his bosses or Aliyah isn't drafted. Yes the grammar checker is doing its job well.

Viria

Awesome chapter ! Thanks

Nion

Love this chapter. Very well done.

Enough Efficiency

Just to add, she got paid less than 1 gold for those spears worth 35 iirc?

Enough Efficiency

Thanks for the chapter, seems Aaliyah was being screwed over price wise also, so hopefully her profits also increase by leaps and bounds

Osprey36

I'm actually a little sad Kervin got taken advantage of so much in this chapter. He seems like a good guy in general, wanting to make a good profit but doesn't seem to be interested in screwing people over. And these high level people are just taking advantage of him now, with their skills so high that a minor merchant has no chance at all. I think Aaliyah needs to somehow help Kervin get the mental resistance skill too, should help him

Krimo

Kervin is gonna be glad he made that contract, eh?

Styx

Invisible hand of the free market demands magic arrows

Krimo

Probably war weather because of magic being slung around.

tibbish

While she doesn't have intimate details of the wider world in her new life in her old life I got the impression she already had enough of a 'bigger world' and wasn't terribly interested in being made aware of it. Which I thought was a big part of the whole reason why she wanted to stay independent in the small village in the first place (the part other being she could be by her family). Being forced to deal with a feudal lord during wartime will certainly be new to her at least anyways so I guess she has that to look forwards to?

Lesley Douglas

Wow. Great chapter. You have come a long way since chapter 1, not just in grammar but chapter content, voice and plot. This was a well written and tight chapter, and I was very much sad it ended and came here to check your update schedule. You really need to get this trending on royal road again, not now but I would suggest you take time between book 1 & 2, (yes I am cheeky in presuming more in the series) and really go over the first 40 chapters and make them gel with this chapter. I believe that if you continue along this path, this chapter will be a positive turning point in your writing. As for content. Kervin & his bodyguard really are young and naive. You have a secret blacksmith that a General of such fame comes to find out about and you send the blacksmith mail from Her, the general's, backyard. Surely he must know there is corruption and bribery. She purposefully gave you a task with a tight deadline. So instead of 1 waiting for tomorrow and leaving for the next town post office, to contact her or send mail to a couple of ppl. He lost most of his advantage with keep her name secret. Poor Kervin doesn't even realize he has been screwed over a second time by the army in less than 12 hours. All his planning he should be happy that he can't lose experience points. As for MC she will definitely need her two life times of experience especially from Earth to deal with what is to come.

Thundermike00

Thanks for the great chapter, every word was worth it.

Cerber

I like the build up and how these events will make our MC be more aware of the bigger world.

tibbish

I'd almost be surprised if she didn't try to make at least a couple of her special bows with a handful or 2 of steel arrows to go along with them myself.

Kristaps Kramins

Ok, the first thing that pops into my mind is: 1. stop repeating the names so much,. It is grating when used every second sentence, ''Cristopher'',since they are in the army and most likely a noble replace it with sir, or lord. anything to break up the name drop. The guards can also be sirs or if its a longer conversation with them simply they. 2. ''mam'' is spelled m'am.

Christopher Davis

This chapter has been much stronger than the past other pov ones. The characters each have their own voice unlike before. The only thing that feels jarring is that very specific statistic a come up in conversation a whole lot. And I'm not entirely sure if it's been meant as a stylistic choice or not through the chapters.

tibbish

Blacksmithing wise you're right I think she is pretty much learned all she can from Del. But when it comes to developing magic enchantment she still has a long ways to go there and while she could learn lots quicker from an already experienced enchanter she has made it fairly clear she doesn't want to be saddled with the BS that comes along with that. Who knows maybe she'll change her mind or have her options taken away from her entirely by this general anyways. We'll have to see

tibbish

Yeah this was really good. We got to see some great world building, some solid action, character development for the important non-MC's, and plot advancement as well! I'm thinking Aaliyah is going to have start either planning to move away or outright fleeing the night or something if she wants to maintain her independence though...

Alteron

Thanks for a great chapter.

samuel k wood

I cannot imagine being able to say "well it has reached this length" and being able to stop. Sooper excited to read the next chap.

Vyktor

"the war weather" is that a pun because there is a war, or is the m missing (warm)? 😆 If possible, can you post your chapters with the book name in it (example: Magic-Smithing - Ch.41)? I hame many writers and it take me a few minutes before recalling who was wos and what story it was 😅. Thanks for the chapter, the POW change was good and interesting! 😋

That One Guy

This was honestly a fantastic chapter despite not having the main character in it. Smooth read, and made me want more!

Erriballon

Really good

FillerArc

Don't usually comment, but this isa good chapter :+1:

11037

I see that "Singing" is not listed on Kervin's skill list. Those poor guards...

Rallaster

Thanks for the chapter. Really well done with the POV switcheroos.

Michael Buchler

Good chapter!

Clay smith

I mean we all knew Aaliyah was probably gonna leave the village one day, and it fits her character that she would not do it without some type of external motivation. She has already gotten to the point that she has very little to learn in the small town and I would not be shocked if whenever the spiders start to truely attack the town Emily shows up and helps. Using that to leverage Aaliyah to work for her.

Milandaanza

I was more surprised at how low his skills are. It explains a lot to me about Aaliyahs monster of a level since she keeps a fairly wide variety where most people probably specialize.

Milandaanza

Normally I’d agree with you but right now the kingdom is in a war and just found a very talented blacksmith that’s not allied to the stonekin. We see from the get go their weapons are shoddy on average and weapons able to be enchanted are so rare she leaves the keep during a war out of excitement. I feel like a lot of her MUST HAVE comes from a general needing a steady supply rather then a noble trying to manipulate Aaliyah.

CyclopsSlayer

Very interesting development. So much for remaining hidden from the world. It might, might, be better with Emily Pitz as a patron, but will likely crush her plans

Milandaanza

Honestly I love the idea of this chapter and how Aaliyah might be drug out kicking and screaming. I can’t wait for her to meet General Pitz

Emma Carlin

One of my favorite chapters so far. I like how Aaliyah didn't immediately leave her village like so many other stories, but it's time now. This chapter made me so hyped!

ZaA

I honestly hope that Aaliyah isn't forced into anything.. She should say she could use the money but not accept, as her people need the weapons more than she needs gold. Already getting annoyed at what this could mean. Could force her to work or they'll destroy the village, could end up getting help clearing the spiders in exchange for creating arrows/weapons for them, but that could lead to her being found out as well.. Hope it doesn't end up annoying to read lol. Nothing you've written, so far, has been, so I'm sure it'll be fine

Worldknower

Will Aaliyah just switch to arrows though? She's making weapons for the village right now, so would she even listen to a vague request from Kervin?

Stephen Weinberg

Best chapter yet!

Hannah King_10

Surprised Kervin's level is so high, I thought he'd be around level 30 like her parents.

Dax

Should be explained in the first PoV shift to Emily, iirc

ZCochraine!%

Very interesting, didn’t like her method and happiness towards finding Aliyah. never like people, let alone characters, that have that smile. Completely true that their interest align, the general had better grow some humility, perhaps a few well worded contracts that prevent the dear general from speaking or inferring anything about the mc and the mcs family and friends directly or indirectly and in any way shape form or inference even to the government, or else the dear general and her entire house suffers dearly. Then work out and actually good trade deal for her crafts. The price of working with that noble are going to be too high for quite some time I suspect, and not in the crafting or gold department. I do not like nobles, especially ones that dare smile.

PatronTurtle

As soon as we got a perspective from the General so close to home this is where I was hoping it to lead. Finally get to kick everything into high gear. Also, poor Kervin

Miritar

Love it, I am an absolute fan. This story just keeps getting better and better. I anxiously await more! haha

Satya Prateek

Cool chapter. I'm curious why Emily Pitz doesn't have access to high leveled blacksmiths. Surely it should be within the army's reach

Kiwilord

Ahhh, the third call to action. Fantastic.

Carl Mason

An excellent chapter, please do keep them coming.

Viva01

I really liked this chapter as it showcased a lot. spelling errors which have been pointed out, and good use of a plot device with the merchant failing to realise he shot himself in the foot. I read that part thinking 'oh shit he dun goofed' -which considering what's happened to him is just perfect- but your reveal of the general lurking in wait is a great show that she's not unaware and very logical. Also the reveal of Aaliyah's weapons being mana attuned due to her own methods of smithing is worked in wonderfully. Great chapter!

Bunny Waffles

Can I say that I both love and despise you in equal measure? I love you because this was a great chapter, I despise you because I want MORE! The wheels of fate/plot have been set in motion, the inevitable driver that will force our favorite MC out of her village and into the wider world. The dangers and trouble that is promised by her monstrous level for her age as well as the attention that would bring. If I could pass out in a coma to awake a year later, or travel to the future when many many more chapters have been written, I would do so in a heartbeat.

Knightfire

Great chapter and really good use of a point of view change

Ungrave

I guess he was never cut out to be a merchant from the start.

Garend

Also, you got the starting part wrong. He said he paid 5 gold for all the goods and expected to make it back four times. That's 20 gold. He got 35 and started moping, which is almost twice what you said he expected to make.

Robert Mullins

Wouldn't have helped if it was encrypted. He can't encrypt the fact that it's going to their small village with only 2 blacksmiths. And from there it's not hard to guess who created the weapons. Would have needed some kind of mail anonymization service or they would need to pass the letter off in secret. Neither of which they had reason to suspect would be required, and thats making the assumption it would be possible in the first place.

Ungrave

Poor Kervin... Got scammed twice in the same day. This is why we have Diffie-Hellman key exchanges and encryption. The moment he sent an unencrypted letter through the postal service I knew it would be intercepted. Bad move on his part, but there was nothing he could do when facing those monsters. I feel like that contract of his will serve as a nice excuse for the MC to keep supporting him after he's completely destroyed by all the monsters.

Robert Mullins

Time for our MC to eat a large serving of plot.

gattala

i realy liked this chapter, especially the multiple point of vieus, it gives depth to the different characters in the story and prevent them from being bland and just names

Mutabulis

"you act as an intermarry for me until I have" > "you act as an intermediary for me until I have" ... Unless Emily X Aaliyah is a thing, which I 100% support.

Cobbly

Oh maan i love this story. When's the next chapter?

Stephen Pearson

Woohoo! Great chapter, thanks very much:-)

Garend

Very interesting... The Good General wants magic capable arrows and her own source of actual magic arrows... and the MC wants to have a licence to trade in that magical material. Isn't it great when converging wants meet and greatness is bourn?

Nathan

Idk I kinda enjoy this chapter since it shows what’s coming to our poor MC

Ato

"Kevin"? I thought it was "Kervin"

Bloodorange17

This chapter was really well done

Andrew

Thank you!

Valter Anunciação

I think you should have spread this out over a couple chapters. Maybe do half Mc and half merchant boy for like 4 chapters. This should have been spred out ( you had enough action for at least 2 chapters maybe 3) but being so long without Mc would be not most people's cup of tea so you should have just done like 4 or 5 half half chapters.

Seadrake

Man sucks to be Kevin, drunk and then bum rushed by a Legendary Noble General who likely has negotiation and diplomat skills. Man he's gonna have a bad day.

The Epitome of Eccentricity

Oh man that was fantastic!!!!

Garend

It's Infrastructure, not Infostructure.
