Håkan Friberg

Caught one other mistake but forgot to mark it. Thanks for the chapter!

Håkan Friberg

"I managed to peace their statements together but I" piece.

fbt

ty for the chapter! (btw, there were a couple of "wrong word" errors remaining; wilding my sword->wielding, guards were weary of her ->wary. Idk if you want folks posting stuff like that here? some folks want corrections, others don't).

Brian P.

There's still no end date on the "deal", there's no specifics on his body guards keeping the secrets (they were nearby, remember?) and she didn't try to renegotiate at all. So no, I don't think the contract is any better, and there's no reason for her easy knowledge of how contact should work. Maybe if she mentioned experimenting with her mom's contacts or something, at least then get confidence wouldn't look like hubris.

Miritar

The changes to the beginning and end make it feel more well rounded. Less of the abrupt movements

Robert Mullins

Chapter?

Alteron

I think you managed a graceful time jump. It was a exiting fight. Thanks for the chapter.

Honestly, really enjoyed this chapter. I cant wait until she visits the city and until she can enchant!

Comiak

I think blindly accepting that deal was simply dumb and doesn't take into account the mc motive of staying on the down low. Considering how people with tier 5 and even tier 4 skills are said to be treated she should have added a 3 year end date that could be renewed otherwise she risks someone else knowing that she has a really high tier skill and they might jump to the conclusion that it is a tier 5 skill and sell her out.

Robert Mullins

Here's an example of what an edit could look like: " Update: Made some adjustments to crafting scene and dialogue between Aliyah and Camden. " See that. No bullshit, no fuss, just a simple explanation of what's relevant to me as a reader.

Robert Mullins

Seriously author, fuck off with the apologies and the "I failed you" rhetoric. Nobody has ever written a web serial that couldn't be improved and you're not special enough to be allowed to make everyone else look bad by pretending you could have. I love your story and mostly agree with your edits but your attitude about your own story just pisses me off a lot. Look at the way Rhaegar updates azarinth healer. He says that he decided to make some changes, summarizes those changes, and leaves it at that. No apologies, crying, or despair involved. Just an author editing his book exactly like any other author in the world. Just write what you're happy with, edit as you need to, and move on. There has never, in the history of web-serials, been an edit that warranted an apology.

Cobbly

This village is so completely fucked

ShadeByTheSea

I mean people blame themselves for things they shouldn't all the time, even if noone else does. She normally does a morning run around the village(but she didn't this day), where she may or may not have spotted the spider before the villagers found it. If she had found it she could have backed off and had people gather the other fighters before it hurt the villagers. If it came after her run she would have likely thought she just missed it, which would be a worse mental hangup. Like the chief said, it's not her job. Good people with the power to protect others tend to feel responsible for things they are not responsible for.

Kddan

Author, I hope you're doing well. When you rework something or write your notes I ask you to be more positive. Rather than "lacking" research I think you did "more" research. Because there's always going to be more to research on and I trust you'll find the right balance on detail for story progression and fantasy elements. As a supporter I'd rather you enjoy what you do than find any tedium or self doubt from the feedback of a creative process.

She use her mental resistance and sense soul to break her end of it. Just like her removing headman’s “save the town” effect. It might also keep the trader end if it forcing him to work with her.

Dikfor

Her soul skill allows her to disable compulsory effects used on her, like what the village chief did. So she is expecting to be able to disable the contract in the event it is necessary.

RanaSuilep

The contract was terrible. She agreed to use him as the exclusive trader and he only increased the deal by 10 silver coins. As someone from a modern perspective I would expect a deal in terms of percentages like, 'I will agree to use you exclusively, but you keep your commission to 10% of the sale price' or something like that and she would agree to float the money with him to buy the stuff she wants, either items or materials so he can make more transactions more quickly to increase his share of the profits. I would also ask the merchant, what are some big ticket items she can make without drawing attention. Possibly an agreement to keep things as quiet as possible. The fact she agreed to a contact without knowing the penalties, social, financial, and personal as well as having no exit clause is incredibly stupid and probably the worst part of the story so far. There needed to be build up to such a decision like her mother telling her about merchant contracts or some kind of reflection. It is not good writing to spring something like this without giving the audience understanding or having the main character have understanding and demonstrating that.

lenkite

Why did she agree to an exclusive deal without a time limit ? She should have put an upper bound of 3 years.

Matt S.

I think you forget that, from all we know, this is a form of soul construct. Given her mental resistance and Sense Soul skill she agrees easily to the deal because she is sure she can break it. I doubt a mere merchant contract skill would be close to a Tier 5 skill.

Nick

I reread of the chapter and have some concerns about the magic contract. Unless your planning something in later chapters where she has to deal with the consequences of making such a poor deal, you likely need to rewrite it so that you don't paint yourself into a corner with this plot point. Limiting her to a single merchant with no guarantees of getting paid fair market value/options to see other merchants mean that she's 100% dependent on Kevin giving her a fair go for the rest of her life. A recipe for disaster given your typical merchant level of greed. At the very least she needs to do some additional haggling (can level up her to mercantile skills) so that Kevin explains the consequences if she breaks the contract. Even better if she can add in some additional protection clauses around getting paid a fair market value for her goods and exit clauses in case you want to let her sell the goods herself at some point in her presumably long life. You could also rewrite it so that she visits Kevin with her mother and has her mother negotiate on her behalf. Optionally she can be offered the contract then decide that needs to speak with her mother about the contract before she agrees to be magically bound to it. Given her mothers former job as a merchant it seems odd that she wouldn't have discussed magic contracts and the dangers/benefits of them with her daughter at some point in her life.

I gave master a day off Now, this is a proper master-apprentice relationship.

Shaggy

Hey, I don't comment much / at all but just thought id mention. This chapter was ok. I think you did pretty well with the fight scene. I think that if you flipped it though and had the meeting and discussion after the fight scene it would have been better. Books are about emotion getting caught up in your character. In this chapter I was supposed to be afraid for the father and the protaganist but I already knew they were fine. I knew that they had survived. It would have been a bit more emotionally gripping if you flipped it. Your readers turn the page to find out what happened to have that dispute resolved to see the hero win. When you give the ending away first it takes a bit of that drive away. Anyway just my opinion. I hope it helps. Otherwise keep up the good work.

Alteron

I think it was because of the high stress situation. It think it was actually a clever way for the author to show the tension.

Giperman

Honestly didn't like that she's blaming herself for spider attack. Because of what? Maybe she lured it in? No. Maybe she was to loud? Maybe she didn't do her work properly? Her work is blacksmithing. If she's gonna blame herself for every bad thing that happened while she was gone it's going to turn into shitshow of crying and self-loathing. Please stop. Although, I'm criticizing some moments, I love this novel and will continue to support it further.

Lord Falco

It really is pretty terrible and unnecessary. She’s probably being set up to test her mental resistance skill, but it’s so stupid. Something better would be that the merchant agrees to keep her budding magic skills a secret as long as she only sells to him.

tibbish

Came off as OK to me. Maybe if it'd had a clearer + smoother transition from the 'present' to the 'past' it would've been better and less bothersome for some?

tibbish

Feels unrealistic that she'd take the merchant's deal. Its a open ended (no time limit!!) exclusive deal that takes away her ability to bargain at all (she HAS to sell to him now) with no clear way out for her (so almost anything she does could be determined as a breach of contract if the merchant decides to try and push his luck). Its OBVIOUSLY terrible!! Now if she was a clueless naive and overly trusting villager that would kinda fit with the character BUUUT that isn't this character at all. She has memories of her previous life and anyone who has had to deal with buy a car, or heck even just credit cards, would realize the deal is incredibly terrible. She also knows the merchant constantly tries to tilt things in his favor and suspects he is making quite a bit more money off of her while still overcharging her some. It just doesn't really fit the character at all really. I guess if she was mentally deficient enough to have the comprehension of a 10yr old it would fit but she is fairly far from that. Feels like you dumbed her down big time to make her do something foolish is what I'm getting at. That always pushes my buttons and is ALWAYS unnecessary. Plenty of drama and action in this chapter (which BTW was over all good, that is why I'm only commenting on the deal here) without doing something like that.

Ato

the start with the aftermath was really grating, don't do that again please

Nick

Good chapter, only thing I'll suggest at this point is that you could add a short sentence of context whenever you change the point of view. (character X, etc.)

Andrew

Thank you!

Cerber

The start of this chapter did make me confused and i went back to check if i missed out on something, but it still brought excitement and anticipation for what happened. All in all, the chapter was good. I also like how you are developing our MC's experience and mentality. The the thing i want to see in the future tho, is more about our the past of the MC's mother.

BlodWedd

How could this be your fault, sweaty?”

NaughtyPaws

Looked like had missed a chapter there at first. She should have Kervin send some mercenaries to help guard the village.

Morog T Tiny

you might want to look at your measurements from the start and possibly go back and change.

She should stop shouting the name of her abilities, it's stupid to warn you of your next move.

Robert Mullins

Aside from the in medias res bit that i mentioned above. I thought everything else was great and I'm curious what she'll have to do to pass the soul sense test.

Robert Mullins

Agreed. Seemed like a pointless use of in medias res. All it did was confuse me and make me think it was a dream sequence or something until I started skipping farther ahead to see what was going on. And that's after I checked to make sure I didn't accidentally skip a chapter.

Lord Falco

A lot of trees have trunks that are only a few inches in diameter, but yeah, I imagine anything able to hold that much mass up that high would have to be pretty massive.

Lord Falco

I love it when people call each other sweaty. It’s such a moist word. Also I imagine her dad jamming away as he spots those hidden beats.

Ungrave

Not only mental resistance, but she can practice removing mental skills from her soul realm again.

Bunny Waffles

The bit where it started with the aftermath of the spider attack at the beginning BEFORE shifting back in time threw me off there, since I ended up going back and rereading parts of the previous chapter since I thought I missed something.

Matt H

How large are the spiders again? If its legs are large enough to be mistaken as trees I assume the legs must be pretty thick otherwise I'm finding the observation skills of the villagers somewhat lacking.

ZCochraine!%

Well thats a good way to test mental resistance.
