If I was Tori I would’ve cried by now out of sheer frustration. I keep thinking she’s going to lose control one of these days but she never does

...but the fantasy genre loves "rightful heirs" and ancient birthright.
Personally, I think aristocratic political systems are so prevalent in nonfiction because they're WAY simpler to write. Everyone knows how hereditary systems work and there's a clear disconnect between how the leadership happens and the people they rule. In a democracy, republic, or the like, you actually need to explain/imply how both good/bad actors come into power and stay there, which often has to mean that the common voters and/or larger political system are at least partially to blame. There's also a whole process for both getting and staying in power that needs to be considered too. The narrative ripple effects get so much bigger. Comparatively, a hereditary leader can just be what they are because their parents gave it to them. Nothing else needs to be explained. Clean and simple.

My guess is Piers paled cause he figured out Tori is a transmigrator (he likes mysteries + Victoria became Tori with a changed personality and knowledge after the accident + the crystal was discarded meaning Victoria died + Tori taught them of the Isekai idea) I really like your theory! I did not think of this possibility and it is fun.

If that's true, and Tori find out that all these issues were forced upon her by the royal family, or even worse some device in the palace, I think we might see Tori fully lose her s**t. In public. She does such a good job of reigning in her emotions most of the time, but even she has her limits. It'd be worse if Piers had even the slightest idea before hand; We've seen how Tori treated Axton over something relatively minor, I cant even imagine how she would handle Piers betraying her trust.

A thought: Hart has very little coin. Her barony is known to be a financial wreck. Of her circle of friends only Mancow has money. So I wonder how deep in debt she is to Mancow and his mysterious merchant contacts?

The Position of PM is not Hereditary, Guthry Junior just had good chances due to his dad´s great work. Can´t be any Chance left though by now. Also "Rightful Heirs" are standard Fair for a Feudal Society, we had it for the longest time in Europe. Democracy after the Greeks and Romans is nonexistent Afaik. And most Fantasy is set in more or less Feudal setting. Doesn´t change the fact that each Generation is more likely to be inept though.

Dimitri is actually working as a great example of what actually happens in hereditary government. Realistically by generation 3 you're statistically likely to get an incompetent moron but the fantasy genre loves "rightful heirs" and ancient birthright.

Ah, Tori's crystal fell because she also fell through an other reality. Seems like the table calls people when they need to do something with it, Piers clearly did something and his objective was probably completed. Wonder what the table will ask of Tori. Also : I hate when cats take you on a merry chase like that

Cymi

Time god... did Piers use the board to go back in time to change things? was it used to draw Tori into Victoria's body - it was discarded from the table when Victoria died, and then placed back on the table with a crack.. maybe that's why he's no longer called? Or is he no longer called because the Emperor can't use it and since he's decided to be Crown Prince, now Tori is to be the advisor who uses the table?

Brad Jackson

I wonder if Piers can no longer use the board because he regressed the game time line. It'd make sense for him to do so considering the Empire at the end of the games would have been devastated by Sebastian, Kasen, and possibly Osten. It'd also explain how Tori is getting memories of something that didn't happen. She is slowly reclaiming memories from the original timeline. I could also see Piers undergoing the same. He didn't keep the original memories but they are coming back to him. Hasn't it been mentioned a lot that Piers suffers from headaches?

nugitoBambino

that table freaks me out. I feel like the grandfather's gonna show up and be like "yeah the pieces are voodoo dolls, be afraid"

Rachel

Ooo I wonder if Piers used the board for something Tori related?!

SiriB

Remember how no-one could explain why Tori got the project (and why something like that was a Lycee project in the first place)? I've suspected that it came from the Palace. The Emperor did say "...making Victoria de Guevera the Countess of Cosora is imperative to the empire.” It might not even be just about what happens there. Think about all the ripples the project has caused so far: personal, business and political connections, developments in crystal technology etc.

Woody

Thanks for the excellent chapter, as always. It's wildly frustrating to see Hart not getting her proper comeuppance over and over. But at the same time I don't want the story to end and that WOULD be the logical end to the story so... well. I hope you find a satisfying way to wrap it up or one to continue the story beyond Harts nonsense.

Just realized the 3 out of 8 love interest have been hit. Considering Gideon a prince and Constantine a freind. Only 2 left!

Sharon Ward

Same lol

I want more scenes with the Alessa love interests getting smacked
