Max Lopo

No.NO. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. Sorry, NO. From the beginning she has been accused for social reasons in public with ZERO repercussion for the accusers. If you make a setting where such tacticts are part of the "social politics", you don't change the rules after. Consency. All she has to do is ask her in a public setting with lots of hears why she thought it a good idea to LIE about her participating in a dance, on the same day of the opening of her shop. Daring to do so without even consulting her. No amount of "think about the children" with crocodile tears would save Alessa from appearing a savage that doesn't know her place or a spiteful, evil c***. This is both out of character and inconsistent.

Lou Gar

Maybe, but then Hart would have to cover the expense, right? That is an expensive ploy if she does it.

Lou Gar

I am thinking that it is not so much as being 'Unable' to do something, as Tori/Aila being 'unwilling' to take the actions she could. I would think that this is thing that fights, or at least 'duels to the death' over honor could happen. Or, all the way up to the March invading Hart's barony. I doubt that once their fellow 'March' Marque hears about what happened that they would stop them. Basically it can go as far as Tori wants. However, Tori knows there is a meta-story going on, and that Hart is likely to avoid the consequences, earn romance points, and gain strength. Not a good prospect. I mean, she got someone killed, got herself and Prime Minister's son kidnapped, then was rescued at the "last moment", and in the end earned a Barony. She broke an Imperial Edict, and was 'punished' by getting a Viscount come in and fix her Barony for her. Who know what 'horrible punishment' Hart might get if Tori actually attacks her, like - "ending up engaged to Piers" or something. That, and Tori actually cares about her social image (and really is a softie).

CentaureHeart

Have it delocalized to the delta, that would be fun

Eb

Tori is absolutely going to adopt an entire orphanage of children out of pure spite

Tarmandan

This is quite the special situation because of a) them still being Lychee students and just barely over 16 so basically still children to most people, b) the bad relationship between Alessa and Tori isn't really well known. Most people will consider this a classroom struggle between kids. Sure, not all of them, but the general masses are stupid and love drama. And c) Tori is way too soft and possibly subconciously still afraid of the game retaliating. Honestly, I am just waiting for this to evolve into the Guthrys finding out their son still is close to Alessa because of him having to pay for Tori. And since their deal with their son was that they break contact with Tori and he with Alessa... (if I remember that deal correctly)

Nobody

Not to mention the gods in the world seem to be at least partially involved in mortal life... So a coerced blessing might be a good way to get cursed instead

Stylemys

Smart move to let Gideon come to Duel to play and make new friends with other beginners. The best thing Tori can do with him is encourage him to make new friends not related to either her or Alessa. The game focuses on them, so the further he is from both their orbits, the less of an impact he can have.

Dave Quitit

"What is the harm in a single dance as a prayer for their success?” Tori is going to be in the middle of the full snake pit of Hart's henchcritters, up to and including the merchant, his pissed off girlfriend, and his hired goons. Bring a couple bodyguards and pack a knife, I say.

Oxylus

@emby hence why I said "until the wrong person is implicated."

lenkite

Huh, so the tactic worked on Tori. If it worked once, it can definitely work again. Send her to Dance at every charity event in the Empire. No need to even ask her next time. And let everyone know about this - so all Tori will be doing is dancing all her days away. Dance, Dance, Revolution to Defeat the Villainess! Generally, such tiffs between Nobles are meant to be sorted out by the King/Emperor or since this is a social event - by the Empress. I wish she had sone so - the Empress would likely have given half of Hart's barony to Tori as recompense.

lenkite

In general if you did this to a high-ranking noble, it would be a topic of discussion at the Kings court and the King would either issue a judgement or allow the matter to be settled by Force of Arms.

CentaureHeart

I don't, I take this as part of the game. I really enjoy all the drama

Alexandra

As K G said Tori definitely needs to arrange a back up dancer for her in case Alessa tries to drag things out and make her miss the opening

Emby

Rapidly losing will to care with how trite its been of late

Emby

Really mate? So no issue if just throw down the emperors name? Or the guild head? What are you smoking?

Emby

In a story where the MC is some middle aged cat lady reincarnated into a teenager. This has been one of the more ridiculous and hard to buy twists. It's pretty dumb.

CentaureHeart

Wonder what the next bullshit is going to be now

Oxylus

You guys seem to be adding modern legal protections to this. They are indeed quite progressed, but are still pretty far behind us developmentally. protections may not be implemented or even pursued until the wrong person is implicated.

CentaureHeart

I think the reason Guthry caved in for the pay means that he knows they fucked up and that she could raise hell. Tori gave them an out and they ran for it. Also even though it should be illegal as hell, they can (and are) hiding behing the fact that it was sent "too early". Nothing illegal about a slight mishap.. unfortunately... and as Guthry said "it's one small dance".

Morgan

I'm hoping Tori organises a substitute dancer to take her place in the case that the opening ceremony is delayed

The Stars Align

Isn’t it obvious for Tori that alessa will "accidentally" delay her until she misses her own event? Maybe even cry when pressed by Tori to keep to the schedule? I am also curious about the quality of the orphanage, dimitris scam artisans build it together with the golden cow and alessa doesn’t seem skilled in anything but intrigue.

Nikola

I would laugh if the only money that was donated that actually made it to the church was Tori's donation. The only reason that would have made it to the church is because Tori told Dimitri she'd check and will do exactly that.

Brad Jackson

Yeah, I find it hard to believe no one in the Empire's history has done this before and/or no one else has thought to implement protections against this.

Empty Shelf

"You are cordially invited to the the Totally-Not-a-Scam Ball. Price is $10,000 per guest, must order tickets one month in advance. Notable attendees include His Majesty the Emperor, Her Majesty the Empress, and His Excellency the Pope. All proceeds go to Charity. *No refunds*." Apparently totally legal? You can just use a noble's name for promotional purposes and there is absolutely nothing the noble in question can do.

Rue

I feel like Tori has basically said "what could possibly go wrong?" Waaaaay too many times this chapter for this to not end in a disaster.
