I also usually create illustrations from silhouettes. Line drawing is a big weakness for me too, and even very messy line drawings can be very time consuming, and can drain me of a lot of energy at the point of rough art! The world of line drawing is deep and this problem seems to be hard to solve.

I don't usually draw such careful line drawings, but I'm learning so that one day I can smoothly draw a line drawing like this and paint over it.

Ah, so you're like me, then ^_^; I've always found making solid lines rather difficult compared to painting, usually opting to start with a silhouette. Or, if lines are used, they usually don't go much further than a very loose doodle/sketch. I've been trying to change that lately, just to see how much it may effect my art as a whole to strengthen my weaknesses.
