🕑 Added 2025-02-12 16:40:49 +0000 UTCI dunno, guys. Every time I have a night to draw something for fun, I just want to draw Ko. I'll aim to get some more variety on here though for those not into this ongoing character creation of mine. I do have a new tier I hope to start offering once Moonlit colors are done that will almost certainly involve more fan art type stuff.
In the meantime, I think I landed on a full name for Ko! Torikaeko (which I pronounce as "TOR E KAE KOE" which very well could be completely wrong).
According to my narrow research, it's Japanese for "changeling" which suits both her ever-changing look and shapeshifting pal so well, you'd think I named her that before shortening to Ko. Only you and I will know the secret.
I have other reasons I like that name, but I'm keeping those under wraps for now. Also, I'm probably due to start exploring Ko's environment besides always having her just standing around holding stuff. I have some thoughts. Hopefully will find some time to scribble them out of my head soon.

Oh I like that even better! My son probably would have eventually let me know that too (he's currently teaching himself Japanese). Most important part is the "ko".

Oh cool. Yeah, I randomly found the name on google looking for something else. I put it in the translate app, and that's how it came out. Apparently also the name of some novel [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Changeling_(%C5%8Ce_novel) ]? Regardless I don't think it matters how accurate it is or not for the purpose I have in mind for it. Probably better if it's not even a real word actually.

Looking at my name, ai is pronounced like a long i and ou is a held long o. Just to add to the confusion.

Checking two dictionaries, I find no word or phrase that matches torikaeko, but do find torikaekko/ 取り替えwhich means "an exchange (in the state of exchanging) or one having the characteristic of exchanging." The pronunciation I would go with is "toh ree kah ā kkoh" (Japanese vowel pronunciation is approximately: a - short a (ah), e - long a, i - long e, o - long o, u long u). Doubled consonants are emphasized (hard to describe). I suppose you could use "ko/子" as "child" (used in many names, e.g., Keiko). Used as a name, torikae is 取替; so I would go with 取替子.

It’s fun watching you narrow in on who this character is. Torikaeko sounds like a great name. The Japanese pronunciation is five syllables. とりかえこ or “to ri ka e ko”. (The “e” is short.) But of course, how you pronounce it is entirely up to you. She’s your creation.
