Moonlit Spiral: Orion Theodorus Flynn
🕑 Added 2024-04-05 23:09:15 +0000 UTCIt's been a while since I've shared any Moonlit Spiral stuff so thought I'd end the work week with this guy here, Orion Theodorus Flynn, the greatest treasure hunter who ever lived!
The above sketch is--I think--the very first drawing I ever created for this book. At that point I was even calling the story "The Last Treasure of Orion Flynn" (although that title still found it's way in). Flynn's legacy is pretty much what sets the main trio of heroes off on their intrepid path due to his disappearance a century prior.
But that's not his only disappearance! I also removed his entire story arc from the book π . I loved it, but it was unfortunately cluttering everything up. So we get a bit of backstory, a bunch of callback to his past hunts and...maybe...something else?? (Gotta be careful with how much I spoil stuff for you) He's still pretty essential to the current story in a lot of ways though. Not the least of which is he's who the main protagonist, Orion Corsair, is named after.

So some fun Moonlit stuff that only you guys will ever see.
Flynn does show up quite a bit in a museum sequence I spent most of last month drawing (which is what made me think of him). A large statue of him stands in the center of his permanent exhibit and it's modeled after that first initial sketch I drew of him up there. So kind of neat that I still got some use out of it. I am also very relieved not to be drawing this museum section anymore. Drawing a ton of paintings and displays from all sorts of different perspectives is what I think makes a person quit drawing comic books.
Anyhoo, really happy with the direction I decided to go without Flynn, and I never would have gotten there without creating him and his story in the first place. This is another way of telling you that first drafts are important. Even the ones you throw away.

I am very excited about this release! And O.O for drawing all the drawings, paintings, statues. That would drive me bonkers, plus I'd probably need a magnifying glass, LOL.
