The team chosen for Boombayah cried because the song is almost 80% rap and the team have 4 Japanese trainees who are very young and have only done cute concepts & 2 Korean trainees who don't rap. The odds were stacked against them

The evaluation format is the same as previous seasons so Sakura could have had known and think through who she might want to pick. Regardless, her picks feels very strategic. She chose Aoi who I mentioned in my comments in Ep2 who she is close with and captains HKT48 Team KIV together so she has someone who she can lean on, and then korean trainees who are relatively skilled and she mostly trained with when in grade A

And I forgot to mention - the Japanese trainees were flying back and forth between Korea and Japan during the show as they still had to participate in their Japan activities. That's why Yabuki Nako was not present during the grade re-evaluation and Hongki had to call her to deliver the news that she jumped to A
