Regarding a translator for the show - If you observe closely, all the trainers and trainees wears an earpiece on one side. There's translators at the back that translate Korean and Japanese to them throughout the whole season

I think the producers were very well aware that the Japanese and Korean trainees are on vastly different levels in terms of skills. But what the Japanese trainees lacks in, they make up for it in other aspects. And I think you'll start seeing this as the show goes on, and even highlighted by the trainers in the next episode. Trainees of both countries definitely have different aspects that they excel and/or lack in where they can learn from one another, and personally that's the charm of PD48 that differs it from the previous seasons for me
