As a huge weeknd fan I actually love this, I’ve been playing it damn near nonstop. Other fans I’ve heard talk about it actually are more on y’all side as far as the song being pretty basic. But one thing I know about Abel is that he definitely doesn’t want people to be able to guess the themes of his albums before they drop, so not surprised this was the lead single. And like terrell said this is all apart of a new trilogy so ofc it sounds like the last album. The live version is 100% the better version y’all should listen to that too.

You can tell this song will have a different meaning in the context of the album especially with the outro. The teasers on IG have been super dark and almost creepy. I think most of the album will have that darker sound and aesthetic.

my thoughts are that abel could change the way this song sounds for the album. blinding lights/heartless gave us what we could expect from the album but he didn’t give us clarity on how it fits in with the narrative. Take my breath was the same way but he went with the extended version plus a transition from HDIMYLM. I think he could use the live version that he did in Brazil and make a studio version for that and place it onto the album OR we just need to hear how it sounds on the album just like blinding lights.

Yea, his singles usually always get outshined by the rest of the album imo. I see this single as a promo/mainstream radio single that isn’t as deep or complex.

I think the Live Version he dropped sounds better. Also, you guys should check out the 3 teasers he dropped to see where the next album goes and how it’ll sound like. The teasers have snippets and tell a more clear theme for the album.
