Photoshoot: Hallowe'en 2020 - Little Red Riding Hood

Rules, rules and more rules. It's enough to make a girl flip out. What should have been a pleasant day down at the pumpkin patch was ruined by the jobsworth owner Mr. F. Wolf. First he made me queue up to tell him what I wanted ("like, duh, pumpkins"), then he said my hood didn't count as a face covering (even though it engulfed my entire head) and then he informed me that I could only have a pumpkin if I also bought a substantial meal in his over-priced restaurant. Good thing I brought my trusty axe, as he was left in no doubt of my feelings. Never let it be said that I don't know how to handle a big chopper.
Hallowe'en might be a bit different this year, but the tradition of my annual photoshoot continues on regardless. This year's theme - Little Red Riding Hood - first came to me during lockdown through a combination of seeing the Evanescence video Call Me When You're Sober, plus hours of playing Resident Evil 5 (Sheva has an unlockable fairy tale costume). My own version also draws inspiration from the typical female barbarian character in games such as Diablo and Gauntlet, plus Maria Whittaker on the cover of 1980s ZX Spectrum classic Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior.
I made the cape, hood and skirt myself and completed the look with a petticoat and corset that you might recognise from previous photoshoots. The boots were a discount buy from Primark during my trip to Glasgow in March, while the vest and fishnets are part of my everyday wardrobe (also Primark). I applied the Revolution latex special effects makeup myself and squirted fake blood into the cavities. The wolf head and axe are both from Poundland's Hallowe'en range and then customised or repainted to look more realistic (the Wolf had a habit of looking like Nobby The Sheep and required some serious stuffing).
