Photoshoot: Somewhere In Time (Liverpool 1960s)
🕑 Added 2020-02-04 16:21:02 +0000 UTCLately I've been dreaming of the past, but seeing the person I am today. It reminds me of one of my favourite themes in fiction; the fish out of water, time travelling hero such as Gary Sparrow in Goodnight Sweetheart or Richard Collier in Somewhere In Time.
It feels like the past is slipping away from so many modern cities as buildings are demolished to make room for new developments. Liverpool is no exception (an entire flyover has recently been demolished in the city centre) but I appreciate the fact that, for now at least, so much of the city still carries the mark of the mid-twentieth century.
I love the idea of walking down a back alley in the present day and entering a different period at the other end. How would I fit in? Would I be the same person? My recent 1960s-inspired photoshoots got me wondering how I would fare in Beatles era Liverpool. After a quick change of clothes, a new hairstyle and a walk through my local time portal, I found my answer.
Of course I was the same person. The thrill of live music followed by the buzz of hanging around stage doors to meet my idols is timeless. Liverpool was as cold and windy as ever but it didn't put me off sight-seeing and posing. It just took longer to see the finished photos and the closest thing to Instagram was a leather, ring-bound album. The past was a nice place to visit, but I'm glad to be back in the present.
