On Tuesday back on the site at the edge of the industrial park, I don’t know where the fantasy goes from here. The rain pours down again and matches my mood. Outside, a yellow wagon pulls up and the driver gets out. The arrival of someone who wants my coffee comes as a relief.
“Here, you want to sit down?” I say to Sterling, “While I serve the guy.”
“Sure,” Sterling drags the foldaway seat out of the way, down the trailer, and sits.
“Hey,” I smile at a bearded dude in a hoodie but I’m conscious of Sterling watching me.
“Can I get an Americana with two sugars and a couple of apple Danish?”
I serve him but don’t make a note about him after he’s gone. Instead I lean back against the worktop at the other end of the truck and face Sterling.
“Vanessa says Amelia pulled out of their book club outing tonight,” he says it like a question and eyes me.
“Yeah, I think so,” I say but don’t elaborate. I’m not sure what reason my wife gave when she messaged Vanessa.
“I hope it’s not because of my behavior or reactions the other weekend?” he says.
“No, no,” I shake my head, a bit disarmed by his apologetic manner.
“I can be blunt sometimes,” he shrugs, “Vanessa always says I should soften my pragmatism. Try to be more than merely analytical with others when I communicate.”
I’m not sure what he means.

“Do you think that’s why she canceled book club with Vanessa tonight?”

Maybe we overreacted.”

Hi Chris, I'm glad you enjoed the chapters. Yes, I suspect Sterling is doing all he can to hook Amelia via Wes. But at the same time I don't think he wants to scare the younger man off by putting too much pressure on him. As you say, Vanessa is trying to do the same more directly with Amelia, possibly hoping she can take advantage of the younger woman's inexperience and naivety. But again, Vanessa probably can't push too fast or too hard either, for fear of ruining the opportunity. That may be where Wes comes in, offering his wife further reassurances.

Well thanks for 2 chapters really enjoyed them moving the story on. I always enjoy when the bull is trying to hook the husband in his plans and Sterling is certainly doing that. Making sure meeting up with Wes and laying erotic ideas for him to think about. Not surprised Vanessa is going after Amelia at the same time, do like how she is doing it with Amelia that she would be helping her out with Sterling. That she needs Amelia help so she would not feel so guilty in doing things for Sterling. You can tell Amelia wants to still be friends with Vanessa by going to theirs not wanting to let Vanessa down. I do like the dressing up idea, I am sure Amelia will be a little reluctant after last time. But Vanessa got her to dress up last time and I am sure she can persuade her again, specially if Wes points out they may have overreacted last time, so no harm this time. I am sure with all 3 playing their games Amelia will slowly give in and be more and more adventurous.
