I know you wrote this a week ago, but I had to say this anyway. I think it depends on what you mean by release order. Firefly was shot with episodes in a particular order, but Fox decided to play them out of order for who knows what reason. It's just one of the reasons why the show failed to find a footing. They did it to another show called Keen Eddie, which they also canceled mid first season. So normally, I agree with release order when you're talking about something like Star Wars, but if you're talking about something that got fucked over by the network, you go with the order they were *supposed* to be released. Writers try to do character development for a reason. It usually makes for a better story. (Edited for typos and cuz I hit enter too early.)

The Clone Wars is better in chronological order. The Clone troop episodes make a lot more sense that way, as do some with the bounty hunter. That's how I watched it and I'm glad I did.

Mildly convoluted answer: Serenity (the episode - 2002) was intended as pilot/prequel. It's longer, but still part of the original series. Not to be confused with Serenity (the movie - 2005) which gave the series its conclusion and it's a sequel to the series. Be sure to double check the "Serenity" you're gonna watch first.

Serenity is a part 1 & 2. Not the movie Serenity. Also if you have the physical DVDs there are a couple of easter eggs worth finding... as long as you like the show.

"Serenity" was the original 2-hour pilot, but after it was submitted to Fox, they asked for another episode with "more action". So Joss Whedon and Tim Minear wrote "The Train Job" over a weekend, and that became the new pilot as far as Fox was concerned. That is why, if you watch the "Serenity" pilot first, you will see a sort of "reintroduction" of the characters in "The Train Job". But it's not too jarring. You should definitely watch the episode "Serenity" first.

Yes, they should be viewed in the order they exist on the blurays and as listed on the Wikipedia page for the series(I'm guessing that whatever streaming service currently has the show uses the same order). After watching the series, then I HIGHLY recommend watching the "Serenity" theatrical film(yes, it has the same name as the pilot episode of the series).

Funny how when the series aired, the pilot episode "Serenity" aired last. The network executives couldn't wrap their heads around the show and had Joss Whedon write scenes for "The Train Job" to make it feel like a pilot episode. Definitely start with the "Serenity" pilot.

This is correct in terms of TV episodes yes, and I can confirm some peoples' confusion over "Serenity" as it is a name shared by both the GENUINE (two-part) Pilot episode, and by the follow-up film. So, in a rather Zen-like coincidence, your wonderful journey through the magical browncoated Firefly universe will both begin and end in a state of utter Serenity 😊 (It would be nice if you could confirm, Natalie, whether you intend to follow-up watching the 14 episodes of the TV series by watching the 2005 "Serenity" movie. You really should, it pulls together and ties up all loose ends from the curtailed TV run - DAMN YOU FOX! 😒 - as well as making all us dedicated browncoats* shed a tear fro what might have been... 😢 ) * Browncoats = the chosen name for all die-hard Firefly fans. You'll soon work out why.

No no no!!!! The first episode of the series is ALSO called "Serenity"!! Her chronological order is correct. Then, she should watch the motion picture called "Serenity" at the end :-)

There is a movie after the series, Serenity (2005) which happens after the last episode. This is different than the TV episode of the same name. Plan to finish with the movie.
