Diane never thought that Leslie was any kind of romantic threat. But she correctly assessed that that kind of long-term friendship, especially given Leslie's tendency toward excessive involvement, can be something to be wary about, when she herself is supposed to be the main woman in his life. And to her credit, Leslie recognized this and resolved that she didn't need to be the one to watch out for his well-being any more.
