Post "Dad Reacts to Twenty One Pilots- Clancy " by "turningthetables"

Zah

Clancy has been on rotation since it released. Love this album.

Sion Onalundula

Navigating and Next Semester really reasonate with me because I’ve struggled a lot with school over the years and I tend to live life in my own head most of the time. Those songs make me feel like I’m not alone and I’m not a lost cause and I can still do well and improve.

jessie

This video does a great job of explaining the lore in like 10 min: https://youtu.be/mGH1jOYGzaQ?si=bNtBSP5vHFwCLlT6

angerina

TRENCH PLLLSSSSSS

Marco Garcia

Same, haven’t been subscribed for over a year I didn’t hesitate to join for top

Jay

Really glad you guys did this album - Clancy was easily my top album of 2024. You should absolutely listen to Trench - understanding some of the lore will certainly help going into the album, since much of it is communicated outside the songs themselves (such as in the music videos and letters available online). At the very least, watch the 4 minute "I Am Clancy" video they released which recaps the basic storyline up until this album. Overall though, I can't think of any other band with a storyline this detailed and impressive - now spanning 4 albums. Clancy was supposed to be the conclusion of the storyline, but was surprisingly light on lore - really only evident in Overcompensate and Paladin Straight tracks, while those two songs and Navigating were the only 3 videos added to the lore storyline (despite every song having a video). Seems likely that there will be one more album to wrap everything up, as this seems to end on a cliff hanger. Well worth checking out the video for Paladin Straight as it visually stunning (it's the one they invested in the most for this album), while Lavish is also creative and funny. In addition to Trench, I would recommend Scaled and Icy - it's a different sound for them (Tyler wrote it during Covid and wanted it to be more upbeat), though there seems to be some regrets that it was not as detailed/layered as Trench or Clancy (on Backslide, there's a line saying "Kinda wished I never did Saturday" - a reference to perhaps the most popular song from that album). And definitely check out a live show next time they're around - it's just the two of them on stage during the show. During the Scaled and Icy Tour they did incorporate a live band for roughly half the show, but scraped that for the latest tour. The same band appeared on their Live Stream event, which is difficult to find but really impressive.

SnekySpider

im so hyped to watch this i hope yall do more TOP

Anthony

More! More! More! <3

Davis

Trench has the same, if not better, production quality as Clancy. Hope to see a Trench video soon! Glad you guys had a great 2024

Melissa

Subscribed just to watch this. Would love to see more tøp reactions! Great insights!

Allie

As I see a few other people in here, I also subscribed just to see the uncut of this album!! So happy you guys loved it and I second a listening to Trench. I know a there's a lot of discourse around the Scaled and Icy album (TOP fan of 10+ years and I slept on that one until this year I went back and listened) and I would say worth it!

xzyza

i’ve been waiting for this oneee, and yesss trench is a must listen.

RINGER 13

Kevin’s guitar playing in this video was so amazing. And you can definitely tell it’s tuned by quad lol.

Marshall Klein

New patron chiming in to say I would love it if you listened to Trench and even their older albums if either of you are interested!

webby

omg im gonna cry this is all ive ever wanted

David Miller

FYI you won’t get the lore from the music alone unfortunately. The majority of the lore is in the videos

Daniël

if you want to watch a good interview, try the one with Zane Lowe before the release of Trench (although it's only Tyler).

Daniël

There is so much to uncover in the Trench lore. It actually started with blurryface and Tyler has also taken certain metaphors from Vessel and their self titled album, and incorporated them into the lore (such as the violent island being a lyric from the song 'Migraine'). Scaled and Icy, the album in between Trench and Clancy, is also part of the lore. The album title is an anagram for 'Clancy is dead'. Within the story it's supposed to be propaganda from the antagonists of the story (the bishops), which is why it sounds a little more cheerful than the rest of their music, but that is also related to the pandemic back then, which made Tyler want to write some more uplifting music. It was a very cool concept and there is definitely some good stuff on there, but unfortunately the reception wasn't that great (I personally think an EP would've been better). Anyway, I'm just barely scratching the surface here, and I'm not even an expert. One thing to check out though is this website where it all started, with letters from Clancy and a bunch of other cryptic stuff: http://dmaorg.info/found/15398642_14/clancy.html Another thing that also sets them apart is the effort they put into their work and the relationship with their fans. For example during the pandemic they created a 'livestream experience' with them performing songs on a talkshow within the city of Dema (part of Trench). They also made an alternate reality game with a bunch of hidden hints and puzzles, and in general many things they do have little references or easter eggs surrounding the lore hidden inside them.

David

Subscribed to watch this reaction! Been a fan of TOP for over 10 years and so happy for you guys to know their work now too. Please listen to TRENCH one of the best produced and mixed albums ive heard. Wishing everyone happy new year, stay safe and love music! ❤️😊

Kashton Saunders

saw them live in toronto in september. they are pure entertainers and some of the best live performances i’ve ever witnessed

Gavin Oehlke

I think you guys should at least watch the I AM CLANCY video from twenty one pilots YouTube before beginning Trench, just to get a quick catch up on it before listening to the record. Explains everything vaguely in about 4 minutes, just remember trench is placed in the point where he's still trapped. As a long time fan of them thank you for doing this, means a lot and brought me to the patreon❤️

Gabriel Guerrera

this duo helped me for a long time to have hope in life, and watching you lisntening to their songs really meant a lot to me... AND PLEASE REACT TO TRENCH, it's their best work imo

DoorKnob

Bro. Been watching y’all for a long time, and was hoping for this. Y’all already know what album we wanna put you guys onto next, but lemme just say that “Vessel” is one you guys (especially Kevin) will absolutely adore. LOVE you guys. Connor I can’t express how cool it is that the chemistry between you two can flow through a screen so vividly.

Their previous album Scaled and Icy is a continuation of the Trench lore, as well as Blurryface. It's pretty interesting stuff.

yahire

RooꓘIΞ 新秀

Your dad will ABSOLUTELY love Trench. Please react to it. Also to get a visual understanding of the lore, the music videos will help out A LOT.

Ryan

pls listen to trench!!! by far their most conceptual and well executed record

Alex

also doing a bit of research on the lore behind trench would help understand a lot of that incredible album. hopefully yall do that soon! much love ❤️

Alex

you guys should react to trench, not sure if anyones said that yet

Tyler Charity

Thanks for listening to this one, i’ve been suggesting it on yt for ages but wasn’t sure if you’d end up doing it haha. There’s a lot of lore behind it obviously, which would be cool if you want to look into it more. They also did a music video for every song off clancy, so you can check them out too. I would recommend going onto the twenty one pilots youtube and go to their playlist ‘the story’, which has all the music videos that relate to the storyline, and the I Am Clancy video that explains it quickly. Basically, Tyler’s gone through a lot of mental health issues, so he’s created this story to personify his demons. Stressed out has the line ‘my name’s blurryface and I care what you think’ which is the basis of the Dema storyline, blurryface represents all his insecurities and struggles. This was started in the album Blurryface and was more fleshed out in Trench, which would be a great one to react to. In trench there’s this city called Dema, run by the 9 bishops that represent Blurryface. They control a religion that tries to convince people to kill themselves, and Tyler is trying to fight back from their control over his life, metaphorical of real life personal struggles. During this time there is letters posted online from a character called Clancy, who is also trying to escape Dema. Scaled and Icy is their album after trench, its much more pop and mainstream because Tyler is being controlled by Dema to produce music that’s popular to the masses. In Clancy, Tyler is trying to destroy Dema once and for all. We also find out that Clancy and Tyler are one and the same. Clancy is all about trying to take control over your mental health, but you keep relapsing (or backsliding) into a darker place. Lavish is about the music industry and the dark side of it. Paladin Strait represents the final battle, and Blurryface speaks to Tyler right at the end. You can go super in depth but that’s the gist of it, hope that helps a bit

tom

febos

You guys would love Trench! And thank you for listening to this album, one of my absolute favorites this year

Just a note only 3 songs are technically lore relevant overcompensate, navigating and paladin strait. Everything else is like real life Tyler and Josh stuff. If y’all want more info they did a livestream for all the music videos/ songs and they explain some of the story. And I saw them live in Brooklyn in September and can confirm one of the best shows I’d ever been to!

Jakob Andersen

You gotta react to Trench also. That album is something else.

Lucas Butler

kevin facetiming his best friend both of them getting beers and watching hockey since they couldn't get together puts a smile on my face
