Entangled: Chapter 3 - Title and Foreword

As I look back on when the last chapter of this series was completed, I couldn't help but notice how much work went into explaining all the ways we'd decided to make Entangled different from its sister-comic, BOUND. Everything from issue-length to writing styles. Since then, I can't help but embrace the irony on how much has changed in not just how I feel about creating Entangled, but how I felt about the way I create comics in general...
For example, I'd said that this comic would put a heavier focus on telling the story it needed to, regardless of how long it took, and here we are, back to the 24-page format. I also said that I wanted to put an emphasis on the nature of telling a story in true TTRPG format, with player and character voices, and we've since returned to the more traditional format of purely in-character dialogue.
Much as I enjoyed dabbling in these experimental branches of storytelling, it became clear to me - if not by the end of Chapter 2, then at least by the end of the last BOUND chapter - that they only helped me tell a certain kind of story. A comedic one, sure, but as a result, a less meaningful one. When you know the characters are being played by faceless people, there's a weird disassociation that occurs, drawing too much attention away from the girls. I realized I was potentially writing for nine characters, instead of just four. No wonder it felt like writing overload...
So, we moved back to a more traditional format. Entangled will still be one long continuous saga, but we'll put the dice rolling and out-of-character speak on the backburner, hopefully allowing more focus on character development and the story being told.
And, as always, I have all of you to thank for this continually awesome journey we're riding together! I couldn't do it without your support, and I hope to continue providing excellent work for you in this and many years to come! The next project was voted on by you, and BOUND squeaked ahead at the zero hour, so look for that continuation in the coming weeks!

Having the player and narrator voices were fun for the first two chapters, but taking them out I think was the better decision. It does help with the flow and I get more immersed in the story. Also, the shift in the art style is worked really well for this story, this was easily my favorite chapter so far!

You hit the nail on the head! The table banter and the absurdity of roleplaying a fiction while being fully self-aware at a table is inherently funny. I just personally felt like it relied a little too heavily on that trope Marvel came under fire for: "Oh, that's your real name!?" If you know what I mean. Self-deprecating humor only works for so long before you start to wonder if you're capable of writing any other kind of humor. And there's that notion that it only works with friends...when you're writing a story by yourself that present the illusion of friends, well...it gets a little weird, from a meta standpoint.

I found the comments from the players and the DM quite funny. In fact, it reminds me of the early pen and paper-roleplaying game "Das schwarze Auge" from my youth. You know, being young, stupid, hillarious and trying out things mentally we never could do in the real world. Even today this feeling comes back when being in Second Life. :)
