Gift of Hedone: The Merchant's Offerings
🕑 Added 2025-09-24 22:31:21 +0000 UTCHello you lovely deviants,
I know, I know - "Are we talking about the Merchant again?" we are, and it probably most be the last time either haha.
I did a post previously about aspects of games that can feel redundant over time, one thing that was mentioned a few times was the Merchants use beyond just selling stuff as you progress. At the start of a game the items being sold seem really viable, but as you progress further and further they end up mainly becoming a means to sell items to.
So I would love your feedback and thoughts either in the form attached or in the comments below on what the merchant could offer, how you interact with the merchant, or maybe mechanics that could help with making the merchant or shop feel like a consistently useful place throughout the game.
I look forward to hearing from you :)

I always really appreciate your feedback and suggestions Leon, thank you! :)

Maybe gallery unlocks? Either unique scenarios, or after X scene has been triggered, you're then able to purchase the scene for future use in a gallery instead of having to constantly trigger the scene (or 1 off scenes that can't be retriggered). You can even throw in alternative costumes, hair colors/styles, can go wild with it.

Thank you so much for these suggestions Tommy, you never miss!

They could sell random or rotating rare materials for crafting and upgrading for some higher prices that also keep currency relevant as well. Money can also be invested into the merchant to update/upgrade their inventory.

Thats a really interesting idea, thank you so much, so this game will have some gacha aspects (no micro transactions to be clear haha) so I appreciate this suggestion!

Perhaps a randomized roll for a random piece of gear? Depending on level or progress but im not sure what your view on gacha mechanics are.
