Nathan looking like Charles Manson is funny, and I think about most of the fans including the cast have said funny stuff about this look. Fun fact: James had to grow his hair long and they trimmed his hair ,used his hair to glue on his face for a beard lol. That's why he looks so raggedy.

Well this is a fantastic surprise!!!! I am so glad you weren't spoiled because I swear you spent half the episode being in disbelief, waiting for someone to wake up from a dream and it was hilarious to watch 😂 I remember when they announced they were going to fast-forward past the college years and we didn't know how to feel about that because we didn't know what it was gonna be like. I've watched other shows like Beverly Hills 90210 (and O.C. if I remember correctly) where they didn't skip after graduation and we followed most of the characters in college (granted, most of them stayed in the same state). This ep. actually takes place 4 AND A HALF years after the S4 finale, corresponding with the amount of time in between airings and the title of the ep. "4 Years, 6 Months, 2 Days". The CW even posted diaries online in a webisode format to fill in this time in the characters' lives. But yeah, I think the main reason they chose to do this is because everyone would have been in different places, plus, as you said, it makes their age a little more believable since they're closer to the actors' ages. I think they made the right call. Not saying anything about whether it's better or worse but I usually think of S1-4 and S5-9 separately because they're just SO different from each other. We were all obsessed with Jamie, he is the CUTEST kid ❤😭 The actor, Jackson Brundage, is 24 now, which is crazy!!! Lucas' comment that Jamie is growing up fast is a reference to the time-jump and to the fact that the last time the audience saw him he was a newborn baby. I LOVE Brooke's quote "Anorexia is a disease, it is NOT a fashion statement." That was honestly quite progressive for a popular primetime young adult show in 2008! Btw, when Haley said "Well, you can walk out" to Nathan I think that was implying that his inability to walk was less so physical and more mental, as evident by the fact that he was able to stand up to hug Jamie later in the ep. And Haley's response was to Nathan saying he was in prison "like Dan", so Dan is still in prison and I don't think they said anything about Deb. Michaela McManus (Lindsey) played a recurring role on TVD as Jules, the werewolf Mason (Tyler's uncle) was with, and then she was involved with another werewolf called Brady, played by Stephen Amell aka Oliver Queen aka Arrow. Michaela was also on Law & Order: SVU. And I know you didn't recognise her but Daphnee Zuniga who plays Victoria was on another great show called Melrose Place (which has a bit more soap opera feel to it), by the same people as Beverly Hills 90210. But, similar to what someone else said, a lot of the storylines we've seen on the show, including in this ep. with Peyton and her boss, are super creepy in retrospect. Fun facts: Lisa Goldstein (Millicent) has been married to Brendan Kirsch, the show's basketball coordinator, since 2011. 3 of the songs in this ep. is by the rock band The National, which includes Aaron Dessner, one of Taylor Swift's main collaborators since her album folklore.

It's a little weird that the creator/writer for the show Mark Schwahn had the character, Peyton Swayer, to go through sexual harassment at work when he was sexually harassing the actresses, including the actress, Hillary Burton, in reality on set.

I am pretty sure they decided to do the time jump so they wouldn't have to show all of them in different colleges since they all essentially went to do different colleges
