I think the point of the flashbacks was to show all of the parallels that Meredith and Ellis went through and how Meredith chose to handle things differently. I agree they were a lot but necessary to drive home how similar their situations ended up being. Also I can’t with Chasing Cars. I hear the piano intro and instant tears. I hate this show😂😭

I know Amy was putting on a show, but Callie's speech about Derek was the one that was making me tear up 😢😭

Gotta say though I wasn’t a bit fan of the April going to Jordan storyline. Would have made more sense for the audience if we actually got to see her and Jackson struggle and grieve in the aftermath of losing their child. But instead both of them were pushed to the sideline the second half of the season and we didn’t get to see the emotional turmoil they went through for April to arrive at her decision. It just kind of seemed like the decision came out of nowhere. Also I have mixed feelings about naming the child after a mother who never wanted her. And for the love of god retire the carousel analogy 😭

I meannnn you’re not wrong about Owen in uniform LMAO

NO LITERALLYYYYY they need to stop putting Ellis on a pedestal up so high, when she's actually 6ft under!💀 The carousel stopped turning for you when you went to the Great Beyond!! 🙄I don't like how Ellis is actually not a good person but we're supposed to feel sympathy for her treating everyone like shit just cause she's bitter.

I had a *life moment* after graduating from university and went off the grid from everyone but my family for 9 months. I felt terrible (of course) not contacting my friends and stuff, but I truly needed time to myself to heal without other's sympathy. I completely understand Meredith in this situation because I think I'd do the same if I had all this many close friends (and family at this point) around me...It can feel suffocating somehow despite knowing they just want to make sure you're okay.

Just thought I’d point it out

It’s fine to thirst for Owen, he’s not a real person but the actor who plays him is 😂

I'm an acting student and I did Amelia's monologue to Owen from this episode for a self-tape a while ago, and it was hard as fuck. Huge props to Caterina for her acting here.

I agree it made total sense for Mer to leave after Derek died especially because she was pregnant. Also, I was sooo waiting for you to watch that Amelia scene because yes Caterina's acting was so good here imo. Oh and I'm fucking annoyed by the carrousel at that point too.

I named my youngest daughter Lexie (and she knows how I came up with her name and no she doesn’t watch Grey’s. She will be 12 in March). But I do wish Meredith would have named her Lexie. Maybe her middle name is Lexie?

God I forgot how good Amelia’s actress is when they give her some real meat to work with. She breaks me this episode.
Brigitta Spethson
Every single time a shot of the carousel has come on screen I have said out loud "the fucking carousel". I laughed when we said it at the same time this episode.

I am totally with you on the clips of Ellis, it was gratuitous and annoying. Also, us thirsting over Owen is wild right? Haven’t felt that way since the episode he pulled the icicle out of Christina 😂. That uniform does things.
Travis Manning
I think Lexie would have been better too !
Travis Manning
Of course I remember that. I’m not an idiot 😂

Nah cause they got a cool it on these flashbacks every second😭🤣

I think Meredith leaving was great for her and what she needed in that moment.. some people need to be surrounded by others in times of crisis to process others need to be left alone to process in their own timeline to get through the grief…

I don’t know if you realize but the song in the background of the Derek episodes is the song Callie and gang sing during the musical episode…

Travis, you've watched enough Grey's season now to know that some fans began to really not like Shonda (I'm being charitable with my language) by the end of Season 11. Derek died. Mark and Lexie died in Season 8. George was hit by a bus in Season 5, etc, etc. Shonda doesn't much hesitate killing off characters. That being said the storyline of Meredith losing Derek really ripped my heart out. Why? Because I identify so much with the character of Meredith Grey. I am not a doctor by my life journey mirrors Meredith's. I lost my mother to mental illness when I was a child just like Meredith. I knew very little about my mother due to her illness just like the character of Meredith. And I have been through a lot of additional trauma after that early loss....just like Meredith. So Meredith has long inspired me as a character. It's heartwarming to see tough, resilient characters who overcome tremendous odds as it reminds me/you that others in the world have gone through such horror. We're not necessarily alone in how much trauma we have had to overcome. I can understand you got tired of the carousel metaphor and the repeated references to Ellis but having a screwed up mother can really cast a long shadow over your own development. I'm in my early 50s and finally starting to feel fairly solid in my life! My mother died 3+ years ago and I am still learning things. And some of those things are horrible. My dad told me after my mom had died that she had tried to run me and my father over with a car. I assume this happened before my parents were divorced so I would have been no older than 5, the exact age Meredith was when Ellis tried to kill herself. Because my father has a long standing tendency to lie I have no idea if his claim is true but that is another story. The point I am making is that screwed up parents can do such a number on their kids. I felt very conflicted about the way Shonda told the story of Meredith's loss. She accelerated that carousel to breakneck speed. Can you imagine how it would have been to tell the story at the regular pace and allow an entire season of episodes to unfold in Seattle rather than moving through an entire year in two episodes as the writers actually did? Though this made the storytelling easy I feel it did a profound disservice because it essentially shoves grief away into a corner. America is an instant gratification society where people have little patience for deep thinking and feeling about anything so it only makes sense that this storyline would be handled in two episodes. But grief doesn't work like that. Grief can consume some people for years. I sometimes feel Shonda kills off characters too easily without allowing those left behind to really be cast as they would likely be after a tremendous loss. Having a sick mother can do such a number on our psychological development. Over 45 years after my parents divorced and I am still healing!

Yes they did get married legally to adopt Zola. I do agree with her decision to disappear, as long as everyone knew she was safe. As for Amelia, her scene with Owen was one of my favorite scenes and Caterina Scorsone deserves her flowers for that. I also liked the cover of the song at the end. This was one of my favorite episodes with Meredith wearing the ferry boat scrub cap at the end and having her baby and naming her after her mother.
Kristi Jones
I'm tired of Ellis too.. the baby should have been named Lexie

They got legally married so they could adopt Zola
