Poppyseed Dancer and Nicole Vaunt on the Olympic Peninsula
🕑 Added 2024-05-06 20:59:02 +0000 UTCBefore there was Iceland there was Olympic National Park. One of the very first places I fell in love with photographing, hiking, and just and camping. I've taken so many people to the most North Western part of the lower 48 to just experience what it is to be there. Deep in our only Rain Forest, it is cold, cloudy, it is tranquil, it is one of the most refreshing and inspiring places I get to spend time.
When I first moved from Philly to Seattle it seemed like a no brainer to do a little workshop out here. Its one of those places other photographers are unlikely to take on. The weather is unpredictable, and while not great for endlessly long photo shoots, it is perfect for learning, thinking through your shot, and executing.
The light is my favorite to work with, and the challenge of working in inclement weather is one I find fun to rise too. Its a collective experience. Everyone feels the dampness, the wind, the rain, and we all get to the other side blown away by the dedication the models have to an image, and grateful for a warm place to dry our clothing.
In my early trips we would always crawl back into a tent, and attempt to recover in our sleeping bags...one trip with PXE the tent flooded, and after the worst night of sleep any of us had we motored to the cheapest hotel with an open room in Port Angeles.
I'm just reminiscing now. But its just one of those places that I have so many good memories attached to. I can't wait to share more of the work from this trip as I get it finished. I hope you are all enjoying the early days of spring. I find myself busier than ever as the flowers break through winters cold, and my bees are racing for pollen and nectar
