alysha had agreed to look after the boys as a favor to a fellow corpsman. when they saw her model train set, it reminded them of a cartoon they'd seen with a damsel tied to the train tracks. they begged alysha to play "damsel in distress" with them, and she finally relented.
alysha moved her train model down onto the floor, brought her pink rope out from the garage for the boys to use on her, and sat down beside the tracks. as the boys began awkwardly wrapping the rope around her, she was surprised at how competently they were tying the knots, and how tightly. of course - their dad's a sailor, they should know their knots!
it was silly, but alysha couldn't help but feel a little uncomfortable with the situation. when they started wrapping rope around her neck, she finally decided that it was time to put a pin in the game for now, and started to take the ropes off. only, as she tried to reach for the ropes around her elbows, her arms were actually bound too tightly together. she couldn't reach.
with only a little more effort this time she pulled at her arms, as the boys continued tying her legs. the ropes held firm. the knots didn't give way as she tugged now with all her might at her wrists, first trying to pull one, then the other through, but there wasn't any space to wriggle at all - she couldn't even get the base of her palms into either loop. it took a few more seconds for the reality to sink in: alysha was actually tied up. she staved off a wave of panic, calmly telling the boys that it was time to take a break from the game and untie her - or she thought she sounded calm, anyway. whether it was the slight waver in her voice or something else, the boys ignored her. that was when things really started to get out of hand
