TL;DR: Americans use the hard-R As an English as a second Language teacher, I love it when the boys talk linguistics. There are certain aspects of a language (such as vocabulary) that change constantly, while other changes (such as vowel shifting and rhotic deletion) can take hundreds of years. In general though, there are some aspects, like syntax structure, that never change. An interesting point about changes in the English language specifically: English is a rhotic language meaning that we make use of the /r/ phoneme (at least the American accent does). Knowing this, it’s interesting that the American accent has retained this feature, while the British accent seemed to have deleted the pronunciation of this phoneme (in certain situations, like following a vowel sound) over time. Rhotic features tend not to emerge where there were none, so this likely means English as it was originally spoken was rhotic. Linguists suggest that this indicates this was a feature of how English sounded in Britain at the time the colonists left. Which means that the way Americans speak English is technically the OG way to pronounce it 🤙🏻 take that with your crumpets, Britains! 🇺🇸 > 🇬🇧

Fun fact: all of the Three Stooges died poor. The originals were Curly, Larry, and Moe. Curly died of a stroke, was replaced by Shemp who died of a heart attack, who was replaced by Curly Joe who was the last of the 5 Stooges to die, and he died of pneumonia.
