microwaves don’t really “produce heat”, they use electromagnetic radiation to essentially speed up the water molecules in the food, making it warmer. running a microwave with nothing in it (assuming it’s functioning properly) shouldn’t really do much of anything due to there being nothing inside to interfere the waves.
