TL;DR Studying dangerous criminals is fun in a morbid way; still makes me incredibly frustrated these people exist. The more we learn, the more we can prevent. Without documentaries (not shows or movies), books, and podcasts about serial killers, I probably wouldn't find myself in forensic psychology and criminology. I've always been more curious as to what leads someone to serial murder. After studying the subject, it really give insight on how certain peoples' trauma, lack of mental health facilities, the lack of police involvement, and how we treat others can create such an individual. Dahmer is such an interesting case too since his parents were distant, he had a brain injury, he had underlying autism, he was an alcoholic at 15 years old, and he lived in a society that didn't accept homosexuality. The Milwaukee police didn't even look into the murdered victims since they were people of colour. However, I do hate these people with a passion. Look up the pig farmer Robert Pickton, by far the most disgusting piece of human sh*t to ever exist in terms of serial killers. He was able to kill as many Canadian Indigenous women and sex workers as he could because the police didn't care that these women were going missing. He was convicted for about 26 murders, but it's thought that he might've murdered around 60.

I absolutely loathe that they make TV shows about serial killer scumbags. It doesn't interest me in the slightest and it makes me hate the people who give their money and time towards that nonsense and allow it to keep being produced. Those scumbags should be lost to history not glorified and immortalized.

from what I understand the complaints re the Dahmer show weren’t to do with it ‘crossing a line’ but more so to do with the fact that those murders were relatively recent in the grand scheme of things and the close family of those victims are alive and well. contrasted against something like the Gacy murders which were back in the late 70s
