🕑 Added 2023-01-28 20:00:01 +0000 UTCI had written my first mothman story way before an was unsatisfied with it. I was able to go back and rewrite it, creating something I much preferred. Read the original here.

The only thing is that you’ve never seen anybody before, and yes, there is no noise coming from the apartment you share a wall with. But there is no noise coming from the apartment! It’s unsettling to you that someone could be so utterly quiet. You find yourself listening against the wall, even the flutter of a moth’s wing would be enough for you, but you hear nothing.
You begin to worry, if the man is in there you wonder if he’s alive. Maybe he’s hurt? You consider knocking on his door from time to time, but you always chicken out. You wouldn’t have anything to say to him when he opened the door and proved you wrong. You would feel stupid and fumbled with your words.
You would need a real reason to speak to him, maybe something like a party? You would at least have to warn him there could be noise and if he answered you could invite him to come over. You pass by his door every day and thought always grows, the need to knock and see for yourself that someone was there.
One day you come home late from work, vowing to yourself it’s the last graveyard shift you will ever take. You drag your tired body home and you fumble with your keys as you reach your building. As you reach for the doors you hear a sound like a sheet on the clothesline. Something whooshing and fluttering overhead, a shadow passed over the street lamp and wind pushed against your face as you looked up.
You locked eyes with it, whatever was. Was it even eyes? You’re not sure, you just saw red and you felt a strange foreboding.
“What are you doing out here?” The voice is dark and gravely.
Your eyes somehow widen more and your hand slips from the doorknob. You blink a few times as you try to find your voice.
It’s red eyes flash. “You shouldn’t be out here like this,” he growls again. It points at you, it’s arms dark black, fingers long. “Get inside now.”
“Wait,” you gasp.
Their eyes narrow upon you and your breath freezes in your chest. It takes you a moment but you nod and turn around. You go inside and stand in the entrance of your building as you try and decipher what had just happened. You’re not even sure what you saw. Something big and foreboding. They’re body shrouded and dark.
As your hands tremble to open your mailbox someone walks in behind you. He’s dressed as if the weather outside is formidable. A long coat with a hoodie underneath, the hood pulled up and hiding his face.
He holds the elevator for you and you stand there trying not to stare but wanting to.
“Thank you,” you say to him and he just shrugs.
He presses your floor number without asking and you glanced up at him. He’s wearing gloves, at least it looks like he is, they’re black velvet and so form fitting you wonder how gloves can be made so fine. You look up his arm and try to make out his face but he turns slightly, adjusting his earbuds.
You smell something sweet in the air, you can’t quite place what it is but you find yourself wanting to locate the source and burying your nose in it. Your head grows fuzzy and you feel your body grow warm. Then the elevator stops.
He steps out of the elevator first and unlocks your neighbor’s door.
“Oh!” You cry out as he opens the door, your mind still a bit fuzzy, and you clap you hand over your mouth.
He flinches and turns the key in the lock.
“Wait,” you gasp and he flinches again. “Sorry I was wondering,” you hesitate for a moment and swallow your courage. “Did you see anything out there?”
He tilts his head in your direction. “What?” He asks, his voice sounds strange.
“Outside,” you point behind you. “There was something outside when I came in.”
“No,” he growls, closing the door as you stand there in shock. His deadbolt clacks loudly as if telling you to fuck off.
You go into your own apartment, feeling slightly better about things. You replay what happened to you outside. The strange creature and their glowing red eyes. You remember his voice, sounding grave and rough. You have a hard time sleeping. You keep wondering what he was trying to warn you about.
The next morning, you hear reports of several attacks in the neighborhood. People were mugged at gunpoint. A cop was shot. There were rumors of some new threat building in the city. You realized you moved in at the wrong time. You turn off the news and your phone, trying to push it out of your mind. You remember his eyes though, his dark warning.
About a week later it happens again, you come home late from visiting friends. You were a little tipsy and you tripped as you went up the stairs of your building. As you cursed loudly and with abandon, he walks by you towards the door.
“Not even going to help a lady up?”
“If there was a lady,” his voice was husky and whispery like he was speaking with a very sore throat. He reaches down and take your hand. His grip is strong, and his fine velvet gloves feel good in your grasp.
“Thanks, I guess,” you mutter. His hand slips up your arm and you look up at him. You hope to catch a glimpse of his eyes but he turns away too quickly.
You smell that sweet scent again, you sigh softly as your body heats up again and you fidget in place. He opens the door and lets you inside first. You give him a scowl but you can’t help but smile. Aside from the fall, you’ve had too good an evening.
“I am so a lady,” you poke his chest. You lead the way to the elevator and hit the button.
He walks inside with you. His head bobs for a moment then he looks straight ahead. “You’re bleeding,” he says as the elevator door closes.
You look down and see your knee is bleeding, your tights were torn from your fall. You groan and huff, sobering up as the elevator begins to rise. “Dammit,” you grumble. You start to bend down but he kneels before you. He touches the cut then takes something from his pocket and wipes it.
“Just clean it,” he says. Your heart is hammering and your eyes are wide. “Other than that, don’t walk home drunk.”
You scowl at him, reaching down and gripping his hoodie. “Why should I take advice from someone who hides all the time?” You’re ready to rip the hood back when the elevator shudders and the lights go out.
You lose balance and fall on top of him. He catches you, his arms wrapped around you. There is a whirr and a growl from the elevator and an emergency light flashes on. It’s red and barely lights the small space. If anything, it makes everything seem for foreboding.
“The power went out,” he says. His voice is directly in your ear. “Don’t be afraid.”
You’re gripping tight onto him, shaking. “I’m not,” your voice trembles.
He sits you up, stilling holding you in his arms. “We’re safe,” he whispers to you. “Nothing bad happens here.”
His words help, but at the same time he speaks as if he knows. You lay your head on his chest, letting him stroke your hair. You squeeze your arms around him and your heart begins to hammer. Not from fear. You look up at him and swallow your courage again.
“Thank you,” you murmur.
He’s silent, and he tilts his head down. You still can’t see under his hoodie but for a moment the red light hits his eyes and they glow bright. He kisses your forehead and you’re breathless for a moment.
Soon, the power comes back on. You both walk out onto your floor and he squeezes your hand. He goes to his apartment in silence.
“Thanks, again,” you murmur to him.
He nods and walks inside, shutting his door.
It’s your last time seeing your silent neighbor for a long time. You even try to catch him, coming home late r even waiting in the entrance longer than you should. There was no sign of him, just like before it was like he never existed.
One night you wake up, feeling a presence in your room. You rub your eyes and sit up, seeing glowing red eyes staring down at you. Your breath pinches in your chest as you meet his gaze.
“What’s wrong?” You ask.
He inches close towards you, his sweet scent filling your lungs. His velvet soft hands touch your face and he runs them through your hair. You hear his breathing, a low rumble. You reach out, touching his chest and running your fingers up his neck.
He presses a kiss to your mouth. His tongue parts your lips and you feel it, long and slithering, as it slips behind your teeth. You suck on it, moaning softly until he pulls back.
“You need to leave,” he growls at you. “You aren’t safe here.”
You try to catch your breath and recover a little from his kiss. “Why?” You ask. “Tell me, what’s wrong?”
His hands roam down your body. “It doesn’t matter. You just need to leave here.” He whispers into your ear. You shudder, not wanting to leave because his touch felt so good.
As if sensing your thoughts he pulls away. “Hurry,” he growls.
“Where do I go?” You ask.
“Far away.” His eyes then disappear in the shadows and you get up.
You find yourself in a little 24-hour diner, staring into a cup of coffee as the old lady behind the counter paints her toenails. The waitress who served you is standing outside smoking when you hear sirens. You’ve sat there long enough to see the sun start rising.
You turn and the waitress runs in. “Like, ten cop cars and ambulances just went passed here!” She gasped, her finger pointed in the direction you had come from.
You get a call about thirty minutes later, your mother’s panicked voice screaming that she was called to identify your body. There had been a gas leak in your building and there were apparently many dead.
Your calm as you explain to your mother you hadn’t been home, that you were restless and went for a walk. All you can think when you hang up the phone is that the creature had saved you.
Ten people died because of the gas leak. After a while, you’re allowed in to move your things. You’ve found a new place to stay but everything still feels so strange. You walk up to your neighbor’s door and knock, you have no idea if he died or not but you think that it can’t hurt to try.
The door opens but you don’t see anyone standing there. You walk inside and the door closes behind you. You jump and turn around, looking at the door. The room is empty and cold, but you hear breathing. You then feel something touch your neck and you turn to see the red glowing eyes. He kisses you again and pushes you against the door. He kisses you again, his tongue going down your throat before. He pulls back and you touch his face.
You stare up at him, meeting him face to face for the first time. His face is dark, the same velvety texture as his hands. His eyes slowly begin to glow, coming to burn bright red.
“Why just me?” You whisper.
He takes your hand and pushes you and he takes a few steps back. His coat flutters and spreads. Large wings unfurl. You stare as he unveils himself before you, like a giant moth but somehow also alien to you. You stare up at him and reach out, wanting to touch.
“I’m a harbinger for misfortune,” he says. “I don’t save anyone.”
You frown at him and you shake your head. “Then why did you?”
He reaches out suddenly, grabbing you roughly by your arms. In the darkness of his body, he kisses you hard, biting your lip.
You whimper and pull back, looking up at him and touching his face. “Ok well,” you say as you catch your breath. “That’s one answer.”
“It’s best you forget,” he growls. “You’ll be safe where you’re going.”
You furrow your brow and bite back a frown. “What about you?” You ask. You pet down his soft chest, your nails dragging on his belly.
“I’m of no concern,” he growls into your ear.
You palm between his thighs and he pulls away from you. He snarls in your face. “Don’t go asking for things you can’t handle.”
You bite back your smile. “I should thank you for saving me.” You make up for the distance between you. “Isn’t that what a girl is supposed to do?”
“I said don’t,” he hisses. He doesn’t pull away though. His breathing goes shallow as you reach between his thighs again. You feel something warm and soft against your palm and you stroke it. The object pushes from inside a pouch and grows slick against your palm. He pushes his hands against the wall as you stroke his length in your palm.
“Fuck,” he growls. He presses his body against you.
You manage to slip away and kneel down before him. He moans as you lick him and take him between your lips. The shape is strange but not unpleasent. It’s thin at the head, like a long tube, but the further down it goes it gets thicker. There are ridges and bumps along the sides and belly that feel harder than the rest. Above you his hisses and moans. His hips buck and you take him deeper into your mouth. You can feel his pulse growing. You can taste it. You grip onto his hips, kneading them as he releases on your tongue.
He growls and snarls, pulls away from you and disappearing. His taste it sweet and it lingers, unlike him. You have a feeling though that he’ll show up again. Maybe this time it won’t be a warning.
After you’ve moved into your new place and have settled in you still think about him, the Mothman who had appeared in your life and unceremoniously flew away. One night as you walk home you hear fluttering behind you.
In the shadow of the trees, you see them, two glowing red eyes. You bite back your smile and walk towards them.
He reaches out and takes your hand, pulling you into his wings that he wraps around you. You’re surrounded by his sweet smell and you nuzzle to his neck and fluff, taking in the aroma directly. He kisses you again and this time you meet it back. You press close to him, running your hands down his soft body.
“I’m so glad you’re here,” you murmur, kissing his cheek.
He presses you against a tree, his hands roaming under your clothes to touch your bare skin. You grunt and try to keep your voice down as he exposes your flesh, his long tongue circling your nipples and leaving a trail on your skin.
Your grunts turn to whimpers and you meet his kiss again as he pushes up your skirt and forces his fingers between your thighs. “Oh god, please,” you cry out, even though you know people are probably still out walking in the park.
He chuckles darkly, biting your neck as his soft fingers find your heat and stroke it teasingly. You cling to him, your knees trembling as he teases the most sensitive part of you. You can feel your wetness dripping down your legs.
“Forgive me for leaving that day,” he whispers to you. “I didn’t want to leave after what you did for me. But I’m here to pay you back.”
“I’ve waited,” you murmur. “I was starting to get mad.”
He chuckles and presses you into the tree again. You whimper and gasp, holding tight onto him as he brings you to your peak. He kisses your neck and shoulder, your body exposed to the cold air completely now. He pulls back enough to turn you around and make you hold onto the tree. He kisses down your back, his hands opening you as something presses against your entrance.
He pushes inside you with little hesitation and you cry out again. You remember it from that day, the shape of it. But it’s a whole different creature inside you. It stretches you open and the ridges and bumps rub you in ways you never imagined. You feel it twitch inside as he begins to move his hips. You moan, forgetting you’re outside as he kisses your back and moves inside you.
“Oh fuck,” you moan. “Oh fuck!” You hold onto the tree for dear life.
He presses against your back and turns your head, kissing you lovingly as he thrust his hips against you. You whimper with each thrust, wriggling against him as he begins to hit a spot inside you that feels so good.
He snarls, a deep dark rumble in his chest that frightens and excites you. You begin to tremble again, feeling his heat inside you grow and throb. You cry out again, long and loud as he snarls, screeching and opening his wings as he pushes deep inside, releasing deep inside you. Your body shudders and shakes, but he holds you up. He seeps out of you, thick warm globs dripping down your bare legs.
You shiver from more than just the cold, falling back into his arms as his wings close around you again. His arms wrap around you and he bites the back of your neck. After a moment he nuzzles again, turning you around and lifting you into his arms. You close your eyes and hold tight as his wings push off the ground, lifting you both into the dark sky.
