Watched on through norwegian streaming service. Sometimes it runs faster and to make it synced try to set the video to 0.95 speed. If it runs slower, set the video to 1.05 speed. Hope it helps! 💕

I saw The English Patient twice in theaters when it came out, and that's probably the best way to experience it. It was an EVENT for a lot of us--and hated by others. I sort of think of it like a huge painting to be viewed luxuriously, finding uncomfortable but remarkable mysteries, joy, confusion, nostalgia. The film really can't be reviewed. It doesn't line up with much anything else. Just heartbreaking beauty. It hints at a lot, though. For one thing, war and just about everything else in the universe cannot match the intimate soul-wrenching power of love and betrayal. The visuals comparing sand dunes and human bodies is stirring, as is the overarching narrative suggesting cartography and the search for the secrets of history are very much the same as mapping the souls of others and oneself. And the sentiment that "we are the real countries, not these lines on a map" (paraphrased) is haunting in the context of WW2's beginnings. Or in the context of just about any time or place.

Excellent reaction. The movie is sad but compelling and well-acted. Multiple times in my life, nurses have made a big-time positive difference. Juliette Binoche is beautiful in this. Willem Dafoe was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in "Platoon" (1986) [AFI Top 100]. You might remember Ralph Fiennes from Schindler's List.
