I was ready to look fucking stupid at the end—it was a scene based in domination and humiliation after all, and if Mars wanted to make me look like a clown, that was her call. Instead, she made me look beautiful. She took the makeup application job seriously (ok, the lipstick was a smeared mess, I think because it was held between Flor's cleavage as she applied it? Again, it's a blur).
We took some photos on the circle bed after and I felt like such a fucking dream girl. A 1980s interpretation of a 60s pinup, though just a little sleazier (again, Mars understood the assignment). I also settled into the party in a way I wasn't able to earlier that evening, when I was still in my "masc" outfit. The whole thing felt very affirming, in a way; like, yes bitch, you are femme, look at how much more comfortable you are now, even with no dudes around.
Seriously though, I look at any of the photos taken of myself from later that night and they are some of my favourite ever taken. I loved how I looked. I would never do my makeup like that on my own—too much work, too many products, I'd probably just fuck it up—but I'm so glad I had Mars-y Ringwald to take me under her wing and say, "c'mere, let me show you how to do it."
