Everyday Witchery

I helps me see my nurturing abilities in a gentle light, and helps me to harness my energy in more positive ways. And it never hurts to invite more magic in.
I’m going to be sharing little suggestions that helped me to build my own witchy practice and they’ll all be tagged “witchery”.
Intention is everything in witchcraft. Being purposeful in everything you do is a wonderful way to bring peace and mindfulness to your life. (Remember, it’s called a practice because nobody is perfect at this! We have to ‘practice’ to be able to build these skills.)
Deciding I wanted to be more intentional with my rituals and the ways I care for my community started with the sapphic slumber party. I always lead a ritual or spell at midnight, something to bring us together intentionally to harness our magic. The first few were easy to plan, but then I had to start researching and learning and getting creative. (And I loved it!)
In an effort to be more prepared, and to consciously put more effort into collecting things for rituals and practice, I started a shelf for items I’ve collected for witchiness. It started with the sage bundles I have on hand for when people move or leave relationships, then the cedar bundles for people who need protection. Then it was rose petals from special moments, pussy willows from the spring, snakeskins from the forest, my dogs whiskers, other neat things I found in nature. All of a sudden it looked like a little apothecary shelf.
For this months giveaway I want to send one of you a burning ritual! Reply to this post with something you collect (witchy or otherwise) and I’ll choose a random winner this weekend. The burning ritual will be specific to you and sent via snail mail. Burning rituals are a great thing to do in the new year to close a chapter and start anew, and it’s fun to have a little fire.

I am also a collector of *things* in general. Some for witchy reasons, some for future crafts/pretties, most for memories. I have hoards of candles, a tower of teas, and piles of old cards and invitations. My favorite of them all though are my sweaters. I adore a good ol' oversized, ugly, snuggly sweater.

I think I just collect things. "Witchy" would be such a nice reason but I just have jars and jars full of stuff. Pebbles, sea shells, hair, chestnuts, dried flowers, moss, glass pieces, sea glass, chicken bones, bottle caps, pieces of string, old stamps, pieces of candles, electronic junk, ... and all with a feeling of "in case I need it". Currently, I eat the nasty chocolate in my advent calendar to get at the metal foil I collect in a bin on my desk because I have a vague idea of using that in a picture or for a postcard - in case someone else needs to get one.

I collect rocks and pebbles with interesting shapes. There are some round ones, some really flat, others are triangular. Most of them are found near water, so they make me think about how the soft water can turn rock into something completely different with time. I grounds me in a way most things cannot.

Prepare yourself for the least witchy collection: Mr. Potato Heads. I have 63 of them if you don't count the plush ones. It started when my best friend Neil bought me the original plain one for our 18th birthday with a note that read "so you can put yourself back together when you fall apart. " i have star wars, marvel, Disney, villains, princesses, horror movie, KISS, some DC, pixar, and one from Breaking Bad named Friesenberg.
