Body Hair
🕑 Added 2019-06-04 03:51:53 +0000 UTCLetting my body hair grow in the winter feels like more of a personal preference. I don’t like to spend my limited time on bullshit beauty maintenance, so it’s an easy step to skip when I’m wearing sweaters every day anyway. Now that it’s getting warmer and my legs and armpits are more exposed in my clothing there’s the added element of people’s reaction to it. I’m lucky to spend plenty of time in progressive spaces where folks mind their own fucking business about what other folks do with their body, but family members, colleagues, the public at large, you’d be surprised how many people feel compelled to comment on it.
And I can absolutely handle rebutting people’s ignorant comments, or having my body and personal choices put under a microscope, but honestly, it’s exhausting, and sometimes I just don’t have the energy for it.
I like variety and I like changing it up, but if I’m being honest the only reason I want to shave for the wedding I’m participating in this weekend is because I don’t want to had to deal with anyone’s too-much-wine fuelled commentary. That seems like a shitty reason to do anything to my body, but at the same time, giving myself the night off from that kind of scrutiny is good self care.
I love how body hair looks though, it’s natural and in spite of what some people say I find it very feminine. Some of the favourite photos I’ve taken show bush and natural body hair, and that’s what I like about the shots, the delicate softness of hair.
Maybe I won’t shave.
