Slow Time and Freedom

All of the acres were just used as some rich family’s hunting property for the last few hundred years. We got it for a steal. Aside from the hunting platforms in the trees, which we tore down as our first order of business as a gesture of goodwill toward the deer, there was nothing on it, just trees and birds and fresh water. Heaven.
My mama has an apple tree so we picked up baskets and baskets of grounders and drove those up to leave around the old hunting hides as a peace offering. The deer are starting to come out of hiding, almost 4 years later. You see their trails to the water, and where they bed down at night. You cross paths with them every now and then. Never when you’re expecting it.
I love the sun on my skin, breathing free, knowing you’re not being watched, knowing there’s no eyes on you like there always are in the city. Freedom. Nothing to do but lose track of time.
