Dragon Ball Z Abridged is genuinely better than the original. The writers undersell themselves hard, but it took a lot of talent to look at the entire DBZ plot and smooth out the character arcs and prune plot threads that never went anywhere to create a really tight, consistent saga. Season 1 is rough as hell and a lot goofier than the 50 episodes that followed, but even towards the end of the Saiyan saga with Vegeta there's a marked improvement in the scripting and the characters.
