I had more on it when I presented it to Tefler, he scaled it back.

Looking at the drawings again, there could even be room enough for another pair of guns on the wings, further out, past the thrusters. If a gun was also added to the bottom of the ship, that would increase the guns able to fire forward from 7 to 10, almost 50%. I don't think Dana, Calara, or Jade would complain.

BTW, There is a new scene in the eBooks that has the Invictus getting fuel.

The engines and thrusters use fuel. The power core is for the Tachyon Drive, weapons and shields.

It was for two purposes. One was to allow for the top and bottom wing turret mounts, and the other was for additional fuel for the engines.

Would love to build one for my grandkids. Scaled down of course. Don’t think I could do it fast enough though. Hmmmm.

Some semblance of aerodynamics while in atmosphere, but mainly to hold the big guns that Dana will eventually mount there. Right now the new Raptor is only armed with the 7 turrets that will provide most of the firepower for the ship, but Dana built in two extra mount points (one in each wing) for a forward facing weapon that will pack more of a punch than the turrets will. Dana still needs to develop that weapon though, and from the dialogue in the story, she's probably leaning towards having them be some form of kinetic weapon to deal with energy resistant armor. Those wings will likely be the ammo storage for those weapons.
